When you think about it, the physiological capacity for learning and memory has not increased in humans for thousands of years, but in the past century the need for cognitive abilities to function (namely get a good job) in developed societies has grown at an exponential rate. As such there are simply not many people with the intellectual capacity or interest to acquire knowledge beyond what is needed for immediate function.

One that just hurts my brain is 20% think the sun revolves around the earth. I don't even have the words...

 

I had a former girlfriend who has an uncle who honestly thought and believed that the Earth was only 4,000 years old. Needless to say he and I had some very interesting conversations.
