A 10-year-old qualifies for the U.S. Women's Amateur

By Shane Bacon | Golf Blogger; www.cbssports.com; July 24, 2012 11:56 am ET

She's 10 years old. Ten.

That means she's in fifth grade, at an age when most kids are wondering which band instrument to play or what acne medication to try out, not which flight to take to the Country Club in Cleveland for a major golf tournament.

Stone's accomplishment means she is two years younger than the pervious youngest Women's Amateur qualifier, but it isn't like she's some slouch. The great Beth Ann Baldry did a profile on her when Stone was 9 (!), finding out stuff like that she has 100 career wins in junior tournaments under her belt, and that she really believes she can be No. 1 in the world someday.

So what's the difference if she loved ballet or soccer! If she loves what she is doing and wants to do that over all else then I say good for her! And if she is talented then I don't blame the parents for seeing that she has talent doing something she loves and wanting to cultivate it!

Take this girl down a path where she doesn't play golf. Graduate high school then college. Job market blows or school might not be for her. She ends up working at a fast food restaraunt the rest of her life! Then she reads an article about how she "could have made it" as a pro golfer but her parents decided to let her be a kid! Then she ends up killing her parents and herself in a murder suicide! :P
