5 walk-ons earn Scholarships

Recommended Posts

Love that Jordan Westerkamp went over to Bret Maher and congratulated him for getting the scholie, the kid shows lots of class!

Yeah, some of the recent top recruits haven't worked out and that sucks, but as long as Bo keeps getting kids like Westerkamp, Jackson and Armstrong the future looks bright, just wish more in-state players would get scholies in the first place. There's no reason that there shouldn't be at least five in-state players signing full offers next February.

is there 5 players in the state of nebraska that a legitimately good enough to come in and contribute to the team? i completely understand what you are saying but we need to get the best recruits possible and not feel like it we owe it to the local kids who would be better off going to neb-kearney, or chadron. if this program is going to get back to being dominate on a national scene we need the best talent we can get.

Nebraska doesnt have that much talent in the state. 5 every year? No way, maybe 3 at most. We arent even in the top half of the states when it comes to high school football talent...

Justin Jackson went to Norris High School (just south of Lincoln). He is a great kid. Originally, they recruited him for O line and center. However, he wanted to try defense first. Now, he is back home on the O line where he should have been in the first place. He should be a contributor this year. Congrats to him for his new scholarship.

So do we take this as a sign that Jackson is beating Pensick at the moment in the competition to be starting Center?... I wouldn't think that they would award the scholly to him if they didn't see him at least making a push for the starting spot.

Good point! Justin is a hard working kid. I don't know if he will be the starter but he could be one heck of a back up. Last year, Caputo got pushed around a lot, especially in the later parts of the games. Having a good back up could relieve some of that pressure.
