S Anthony West

I would probably say this guy will be a S..... at 6'0, 195, with 4.56 speed.....

he is more apt to be a S..... 4.5 is fast, but not "burner"..... probably not enough speed to play CB or RB..... but with a nice frame, that will no doubt grow because of wt. room, his 4.5 speed would be very nice at S.

I agree with BigWilly in the sense that I think it was West/Young.... meaning, I think Young is destined to be a Hawkeye, Cyclone, or CSU Ram....

Welcome aboard Mr. West.....

Remember, some of the best players in history were not 4-5 star guys....they were 2-3 star guys who worked their a$$es off..... apparently BC and co. liked what the saw.

That 40 time is from camp which is done electronically. You can shave anywhere from .15-.18 or even more off that time to get a hand-held time. Hand-held times are how you get most of your low 4.4's and high 4.3's, so yes, he is a burner.

Washusker, who is to say Mr. West will not turn into an All B12 player at the least? Don't be a harsh judge of talent until you see him actually play.

Cally and staff saw him personally at camp and gave him an offer, I trust their judgement on these things.

Welcome to the family, Anthony!

Not to bash the kid, because there is no way to tell if he will be great or wash out, but when Solich recruited guys like this

( :star:star ), many wanted to hang him.

The difference being, perhaps, that Solich didn't balance it out with a number of 4 and 5 star recruits each season.

Key letter in your word (S). There's a difference between guy and guy(s). How many 2 star players u see in this class?

Exactely ...finally.....4.56 is very fast...that's without a college workout yet.

Not gonna disagree, but its hypocritical to condemn one coach for recuiting such players, yet break your arm to pat another on the back for a similarly rated recruit.

People put to much focus on stars.

:yeah Agreed. But, does that make last years class ratings meaningless????

No one is condemining anyone. There's a difference between recruiting a 2 star player or even an unranked player like Robert Rands last year who will most likely be a return specialist in his college football career at the most, compared to recruiting a 2 star recruit who is being recruited for a major positon like LB, RB, DB, etc. That's when i have a problem with it and i am sure many other fans are have a problem with it. Right now, he's a 2 star player, but we have no idea if he's going to be playing WR, DB, or whatever other position the coaches decide to play him at.

In 2003's recruiting class, Callahan recruited Beau Davis and Joe Ganz who are both 2 star players and have rarely seen the field. Your comment might be "well why aren't you getting on Callahan for those recruits?"

Here's why and this is my opinion. I believe Callahan recruited those guys not as serious prospects for the QB position but because those 2 guys were adequte enough to run the scout team and emulate opponent QB's to a certain point. If you do some research on who won the scout team award i believe this year..one of those 2 won it (i believe it was Beau Davis, but don't quote me on it, i would have to double check the article).

Steve Ryan said on the radio today that at the NU camp this guy ran a hand held 4.35. That is flippin fast.

Wow. Teach this kid how to play safety! :thumbs

I don't think anyone wanted to hang Solich for any one particular recruit. I think it is the fact that he had a lot more recruits that were similarily rated, projects, and could never seem to close on many of the big recruits. Who knows what this kid is going to turn out to be, but why do you play both sides of the fence. Callahan gets a 4 :star and then he is just recruiting what rivals tells him is a good player. Callahan gets a 2 :star and you say that Solich would have been condemned for getting this kid. I don't get it.

Interesting theory. I guess "weirder" things have happened. I was under the impression that they were the only ones left that he felt were a fit for his offense.

Yeah, if he actually ran a 4.35, thats fast :thumbs maybe well worth the gamble. Techniques and schemes can be learned, speed is tough to come by.
