Devaney Center court to be named after Terry Pettit

Recommended Posts

Approved by the regents today.

The Nebraska Athletic Department announced on Friday that the University of Nebraska Board of Regents has approved naming the volleyball court at the Bob Devaney Sports Center “Terry Pettit Court.” The naming is the result of a generous gift given by Bill and Ruth Scott in honor of former Nebraska head coach Terry Pettit. Beginning in 2013, the newly-renovated Devaney Center will be utilized for Husker volleyball, men’s and women’s gymnastics and wrestling competitions.

Pettit was inducted into the AVCA Hall of Fame in 2009 and was a two-time AVCA National Coach of the Year, a seven-time Big Eight Coach of the Year and a two-time Big 12 Coach of the Year. In his 23 years at Nebraska, he guided the Huskers to a national championship in 1995, six Final Four appearances and 21 conference titles.

“As we prepare to move into the Devaney Center for the 2013 season, our theme is to ‘Honor the past and invent the future’,” Current Nebraska Head Coach John Cook said. “Nebraska volleyball has always been a program that embraced its history and tradition, while also establishing the bar for what college volleyball could be. While the Devaney Center represents the future, it is only fitting that we celebrate the past by naming the court in honor of Coach Pettit. His unique vision for what Nebraska volleyball could be, along with the generous support of the Scott family, makes it possible to celebrate both our storied past and our promising future.”
