Popular Post jjamuss
Another game, another team... But what made a sticky night threaded with reminders that a coaches job is never done, there was a breath of freshness that I hadn't seen at a home game in many moons. A tiny hand reached over my shoulder to offer a hi-five for a husker TD, a light slap and I turn to the owner of the hand... A 6 year old's face peeked from under his curly hair, eyes wide, with an unsure look On his face as I realize I am being congratulated by the opposing teams fanbase. Then came the questions, one after another, he really was in awe of what he was seeing as are most when they visit our house for the first time. "what does this mean" he asked as he crossed his little arms, fists clenched... It was time for school, I was delighted to oblige. From the smiles and remarks from his parents that nebr fans really are the greatest, I could tell Wyo isn't that different from NE regarding the passion that comes from supporting college football, no matter the team... the thrills of being a fan bridged not just miles from Lincoln to Laramie, but also the generational gaps of age. Even though I exited the stands with a narrow win on my mind, something strange happened...something I hadn't felt in a long time, I was swelling with pride to be a Husker fan because of one young man and his family from Wyoming. Isn't that what these games are really about? 12 Quote Link to comment

Grape Julius
Awesome story. There really is no place like Nebraska--I'm reminded of how unique our fans are every time I take in a road game. Quote Link to comment
True2tRA
Plus one. Trust me I get the big picture. I get it better than many many people do. I just like watching my team perform at a high level and was a bit disappointed last night. As far as the Wyoming fan base, the people that came to this board before the game were classy. Good fans. Belief in their team. Belief in that QB but modest and honest. They had every right to think they would do well and they sure as hell did. That's what being a fan is about. I love my team the same way they love theirs. We can talk about the good and the bad but I'll still shake your hand afterward and say good game to ya. Then we will discuss our mistakes the same way they are wondering today why the hell they had that running back try to throw that touchdown instead of their qb that was lighting us up all night long. commando
always good to hear these stories....and always remember that the visiting fans walk under the same signs as the husker fans. they are also some of the greatest fans in the world Quote Link to comment
knapplc
I wasn't in Lincoln during the game, but I ran into quite a few this morning in the aftermath. Like pretty much everyone I've met from Wyoming, they were pretty cool, down-to-earth people. They're a lot like us here in Nebraska, so we got along fine. Same sense of humor. Quote Link to comment
