Open letter to the team - Iowa Edition

[Redux]

What you all did in Happy Valley last Saturday was nothing short of inspiring. The fans were rowdy, the weather was wretched, the officials were biased and your team practically walks with a limp. But you overcame it all. The day was yours and Husker Nation sighed a mutual relief. Kudos Huskers. You did great.

 

But now its a short week. Gotta get right back at it for Iowa. Supposedly Iowa isnt a threat. Think again. This teams losses arent nearly as bad as you may think. Theyve been in some battles just like you. Difference is youve beaten them twice in a row and theyve never gotten to hoist that brand new rivalry trophy.

 

This is senior day in YOUR house. This is the season finale. The only thing standing in your way of a 9 win season is Iowa and yourself. Youll have to overcome both if you want to get the win. Now is not the time to cakewalk through your opponent because they wont let you. If you take them lightly they will smother you, steal momentum and use your mistakes against you. But they have a weakness and that weakness is your greatest strength. Heart. You all show tremendous heart, courage and fortitude. When the tables are stacked against you, none of you quit. And thats gonna be the difference maker on Friday. When that guy lined up against you gives up blocking make yor move. When the receiver you were covering slows his route you pounce. When their line gets confused you turn the turbos on and break it loose.

 

This is it fellas, youve got one more game before a long stretch before your bowl. You wanna lose to Iowa and get stuck in a toilet bowl of a game against a team nobodys heard of? Be my guest. But dont cheat the fans, your coaches or yourselves by turning in some half assed performance because you dont consider Iowa a rival. If you dont wanna do it for yourselves, do it for the seniors who got banged uo and couldnt play in their last ever home game. Do it for Taylor Martinez, he deserves this win as do you. Go beat the snot out of the Hawkeyes. Go Big Red.

As great as a matchup with Texas would be if we won, a loss would essentially depress our entire fanbase. Whereas a matchip with an SEC team would lead most our fans to expect we lose so if we won it would be a huge surprise.
