zoogs
http://azstarnet.com...76f69cc35a.html The votes took place despite warnings from corporate executives and business groups that any move away from Common Core is a bad idea. “Our standards and our expectations were set too low,” said Glenn Hamer, president of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He said business leaders worked with governors to come up with new ones designed to ensure that high school graduates have the skills they need to work or go on to college. And Chad Heinrich, lobbyist for the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, warned this is a step backward that could make Arizona high school graduates unemployable. Melvin’s comments led Sen. David Bradley, D-Tucson, to ask him whether he’s actually read the Common Core standards, which have been adopted by 45 states. “I’ve been exposed to them,” Melvin responded. Pressed by Bradley for specifics, Melvin said he understands “some of the reading material is borderline pornographic.” And he said the program uses “fuzzy math,” substituting letters for numbers in some examples. State Senator Al Melvin. STATE SENATOR STATE SENATOR STATE SENATOR STATE SENATOR Arizona state Sen. Al Melvin ® said there's no discrimination in his state, so he's not worried about the consequences of a bill that would allow businesses to invoke religious beliefs to discriminate against gay customers.http://www.huffingto..._n_4851142.html I really don't know much about the Common Core initiative, but surely he's not railing against algebra here, right? BigRedBuster
So, let me get this straight. Business leaders worked with the educational institutions to raise the standards so that kids graduating from HS will be more employable and better prepared for college. And, some idiots think this is a move in the wrong direction? Link to comment
Whistlebritches
Yeah, but those same business leaders were this change. I guess I don't understand why the state can't require additional core curriculum while also keeping the federal goals in place. Maybe if the Senator wasn't referring to basic Algebra as 'fuzzy math' I'd feel like this wasn't just another move in the race to the bottom. Link to comment

Which party gets the honor of claiming this idiot? Ive made it pretty clear that I'm pretty disgusted with the Republican party and I am no longer a registered member of that party. However, why does this question always come up with you? It's like you are obsessed with the negatives towards the Republican party. Link to comment
