Dubbing their effort “cookie-cott,” abortion opponents have been urging allies to refuse to purchase cookies from any girl scout this year to show their opposition to what they perceive as the Girl Scouts’ increasing support of people and advocacy groupswith ties, however tendentious, to abortion. The most recent in a long line of perceived offenses, and the one that spurred the latest cookie boycott, was the organization’s alleged endorsement of Texas state senator Wendy Davis, who last June famously filibustered the state’s new law that will close most of the abortion providers in Texas. The Girl Scouts’ Twitter account tweeted a link to a Huffington Post Live segment discussing potential candidates for woman of the year for 2013. Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis was mentioned as a contender, as were singer Beyonce, Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai and even “the brave women on social media.” Link to comment

VectorVictor Posted March 11, 2014 Share Posted March 11, 2014 Yeah, the ties are tenuous at best...but what's sad is that these 'protesters' go out and deliberately make a scene in front of the girls when they sell publicly and try to shame 5 and 6 year olds about being a Girl Scout. Unfortunately had that happen twice down here in three selling opportunities, and I had to politely ask the American Taliban member to move on or I would call the store manager to have them removed. And this isn't some Onion.com piece--they're actively going to Girl Scout cookie booths (in front of girls as young as 5 years old) to get in parents and girls faces about how they're selling abortions, Liberalism, Satan, etc. with each box of Thin Mints. :-| Frankly, when it doesn't seem that the American Taliban™ can't get any more ridiculous, they find a way to top themselves down here. At this rate, Ted Cruz will be kicked out and branded too liberal for their tastes soon enough. Link to comment
