True2tRA
Alex Lewis looked like a pretty big dude out there. I was impressed with how well the online moves their feet, that's good and all, still I think this offensive line needs to work on the downhill run blocking. Seems at times we are getting too upright like pass blocking even on some running plays. I would like to see some more hustle downfield on run plays too. Looks like a big athletic group out there though. Quote Link to comment
Thanks_Tom RR
Very excited about the depth and athleticism we have this year. For a team that's built on running and has done so well the last few years at it, having a group this scary up front could exponentially increase the strength of our O. Now, If we could just find a way to get the skill positions to protect that football... :ahhhhhhhh However, I hope they get Kondolo and Whittaker worked in some at guard, Price steps up, and Moudy is ready to go. It seems like every year is the year Cotton is beasting and finally ready to break out... and then he gets hurt. This will obviously continue to be a huge issue until it's not. On a positive, no fumbles in the spring game. Quote Link to comment
Mavric
FIVE AREAS OF CONCERN Can an offensive line with little starting experience enforce its will when it counts? You could make a fair argument that the ceiling for this Husker O-line is higher than the one for last year’s, which began the season with an all-conference guard in Spencer Long and three seniors at offensive tackle. The Huskers are not void of talent up front by any means, and have more on the way with guard Tanner Farmer and tackle Nick Gates arriving this summer. That said, this group has only three players who have started for NU, and left guard Jake Cotton is the only one who has started more than three games. Cotton and transfer Alex Lewis seem like a nice 1-2 punch on the left side. But how will the right side do? Junior Zach Sterup is the main guy to watch at right tackle, and Matt Finnin and David Knevel need to keep coming along to add depth. Meanwhile, Mike Moudy will have to hit the ground running at right guard after missing the spring with a shoulder injury. At center, it seems to be Ryne Reeves and Mark Pelini. Will Reeves be able to avoid the injury bug that has hampered his progress in the past? One good thing is the offensive line has been able to operate against a talented top-unit defensive line throughout the spring. And while the linemen suffered their losses, they had days where they won the fight, too. LJS Quote Link to comment
