Mavric
Football Outsiders has stats for about everything. There are numbers for days but I thought this was interesting - how drastically we've improved (so far) over last season in field position. Lots of factors go into it but being quite a bit better in the takeaway and punt return departments are probably the two biggest reasons. First rank is 2013, last rank is 2014. Field Position Advantage (overall number): 82nd - 13th Starting Field Position Rank: 94th - 25th Opponent's Starting Field Position: 110th - 53rd Difference in Starting Position Compared to Opponent: 104th - 35th Short Field Drives (start in opponent's territory): 67th - 54th Opponent's Short Field Drives: 115th - 17th Long Field Drives (start inside own 20): 110th - 14th Opponent's Long Field Drives: 107th - 110th 1 Quote Link to comment
HUSKER FREAK
That's because Dr. Osborne said that would be a big factor in the deciding the first four!! Or maybe because we would have a better chance of winning IDK One of the two. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
We also averaged 2.23 turnovers per game last year compared to 1.6 so far this year. If I remember correctly, many of the turnovers last year were in our own territory. (totally going on memory) I don't think the 10 we have had so far have been so much in our own territory. No matter what, the above stats are a nice trend. Quote Link to comment
