Reference to the new Star Wars movie: In seriousness, diversity on the staff is good. I have no idea if this is more or less than average, but it doesn't really matter. Wow, that flew right over my head. I had no idea that's what he was referencing. It hasn't occurred to me, ever, to think about the color of the guy's skin on the team, whether that's a player or a coach. If someone hadn't pointed that out, I never would have noticed. That's largely because I have the privilege of being born white in a white-centric state. I can ignore race because it never affects me. Jay Foreman thinks about it not necessarily because of guys like me, but because there are people out there for whom race is an issue, and they focus their issue on the Jay Foremans of the world. Hopefully in not too long we can forget about this kind of thing altogether. Link to comment
Abdullah the Butcher Posted January 21, 2015 Share Posted January 21, 2015 I suppose the black players can relate to the black coaches better, especially when they are all former players. Not that it should matter but it probably does. All the coaches are fairly young also. Link to comment
zoogs Posted January 21, 2015 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Yeah, it shouldn't matter individually, but there's a good reason it gets brought up, in my opinion: the players, across the entire sport, are a very diverse group. When a staff is almost entirely homogeneous, you look at that and think, "Why?" Link to comment
