It was the end of my childhood, literally and figuratively. That's a shocking way to make the transition. I never really realized that until now.

 

I feel sorry for kids growing up now. In the airport, we used to be able to sit with somebody at the gate even if you weren't flying. All you had to do was go through a metal detector. Kids got to go in the cockpit and sit in the pilot seat. You could actually take a bottle of liquid with you; shampoo, wine whatever. You got ro keep your shoes on. People weren't suspicious of each other... Weird to think about.
