Kiyoat Husker
Iowa Football: It's a Kick in the Head In retrospect, yeah. They could have chosen a better "triumphant" moment for the cover. Quote Link to comment
Blackshirt96
However we did have Tommie on the cover and we ended up crushing Florida in the Fiesta Bowl. Just think how bad it would have been if it wasn't for the jinx. Quote Link to comment
MasterPulverizer
Iowa fans are like a bunch of Nouveau Riche a-holes that despite great new wealth have chosen to take a bus trip to Vegas. I'm not saying we can beat them, but it appears that that the tables are set for an epic let down. I'm being forced to watch the game with a several cocky teenage Iowa fans. I'll hold off on smothering them with dirty pillows until the game is over. We win and they get smothered for their cockiness or we lose and they get smothered for being a-holes. JoeHuskers!
I believe in the power of the jinx. With Nebraska it goes back to at least 1984, when Jeff Smith and the headline "Big Red Machine" showed up on SI just days before losing to...... Syracuse. Ahman Green was on the cover the week of the 19-0 Arizona State clusterf-ck. And the worst of all..... 2001, Eric Crouch, Thanksgiving week. Offhand there may be more but none could be more egregious than these three, some of the most mystifying losses in our long and sordid history The one that sticks out to me is the cover that Jared Crick was on just prior to the 2011 season declaring Nebraska "The B1G's new bully" We then went on to have Crick and Alphonso get hurt, and we get blown out in our first B1G game... ohiocornhusker
You do know that Iowa lost the next game in 2009 after this SI cover to Northwestern, who at that point in the season had only won 5 games. Their upset win over Iowa clinched them a bowl bid. (Northwestern did eventually win their last three games) Just giving additional insight to the last time an undeeated Iowa was on the SI Cover... 2 Quote Link to comment
