Depth Chart for Akron (interesting positioning of the "OR")

Recommended Posts

Outside of the "Way too early depth chart" thread, I haven't seen much discussion regarding the full depth chart issued for Akron.

I have to believe there are some interesting observations out there. Some of the names missing are interesting (looking at you Breon Dixon). The fact that one of the walk-on's just awarded scholarships is on the depth chart at the backup to Stanley Morgan is also interesting.

For my part, I found the placement of the "OR"s to be interesting. In some cases they seem to be saying: This guy is 1st string and then we have a 2a and 2b (such as behind Stanley Morgan).

In the case of the ILBs it seems like they aren't decided on a #1 yet because they use OR for only two names.

On DE it looks like we have a 1a & 1b situation between Ben Stille and Carlos Davis with DeShon Neal effectively 3rd string.

Same thing at the one safety position with Antonio Reed and Deontai Williams the 1a & 1b with Aaron Williams the 3rd string.

But at the other safety position Tre Neal is the #1 with 2a and 2b give to JoJo Domann and Marquel Dismuke.

Part of this might be due to the fact that there isn't a "nickel" position on the depth chart.

The TWO "OR"s at RB seem to indicate a #1a and #1b followed by a #2a #2b.

I don't know if this is just the way that Frost's platooning of players is best represented on a traditional depth chart (in which case we should expect to see the "OR"s all season) or if it is an indication of how close the competition is and the evaluation will continue and some of the "OR"s will drop out.

Thoughts?
