  1. Enjoy the little things, like any kind of win. Was fun!
  2. I went to the vtech, kansas, and big 12 championship games as away games...and I am from Columbus, Nebraska. Plane to blacksburg, and drove to the other two. But in blacksburg I met many Nebraska fans who now lived in the Washington DC area...so obviously people from Nebraska travel, but there are probably other fans in those states already.
  3. culbert was good during that missouri game..yeah like 12 tackles...then he also switched to running back later
  4. So have any of you readers been on a "real" roller coaster. I don't mean one of those kiddy ones that you rode when you were the age of ten at your local county fair. A real coaster is one that is built for insane speed, intense drops, and ulitmate loops. Well you can say you rode on one now: The Bo Pelini Express v2009. This season was quite a roller coaster, probably the most stressful I have ever been on since the Millenimum 2000 at Cedar Point. The season started out with two easy victories against Sun Belt opponents. One with a coach with a championship ring, the other with a coach who didn't know what a championship was. This team was flying high. People thought we had a defense AND an offense at the time. Then this team was flown to Blacksburg hoping to get a signature win over a tocuh Hokie squad who by the way held with one Alabama. The game felt like Nebraska's for the taking. Field goal after field goal after field goal made this game look like winnable but not quite a victory when Virgina Tech got the ball back with two minutes left and a five point deficit. I was in the endzone where the Hokies scored their final touchdown. As I saw the ball fly into the sunny Virginia sky, I saw a maroon figure running down the sideline uncovered. As the ball slipped into this player's hand, I thought that this could not be true. Well we all know the rest of the story, and although I meant it (at the time) I uttered two famous words hoping (at the time) Matt O Hanlon would hear them. "Choke job." But we all eventually got over this loss, and it made this team better. Then Memorial stadium decided to throw a party of September 26, 2009. Former players and coaches could be seen left and right. Even a few appearance on the big board by Turner Gill and Frank Solich. Two husker coaches who helped Nebraska become a prestigious program. Nebraska cruised on in thie 55-0 drubbing of Louisiana-Lafayette. After this game the state still felt that the Virginia Tech loss could be forgetten for good after a good win over the Tigers of Missouri. For three quarters we couldn't have felt any worse. Nebraska came into Columbia with a 3-1 record and top 25 ranking on the line against the Blaine "My Family Switches Their Mind Like Brett Farve" Gabbert. For the first three quarters this game looked like one of the ugliest losses in Nebraska history. But then, "Lee on 3rd and 8...steps up...takes a shot down the middle of the field...and has a man wide open...Niles Paul...Touchdown!" (courtesy of Chris Fowler). Then after two interceptions by Suh and Gomes there was 27-12 final scored, and Nebraska had reeled off 27 consecutive points in the fourth quarter to defeat the Missouri Tigers. The Huskers flew high...for about...9 days. The following week this team was crushed by Texas Tech and the quarterback murmurring started and who would start the next week against Iowa State. Well people were more worried about the starting quarterback then their actual opponent that week. The media said it was a trap game but who actually believed we would lose to Iowa State. As I watched Zac Lee throw an interception for the 8th turnover of the day. I couldn't help but look to the sky and wonder if this actually happened. My father and I walked out of the stadium and I was silent. I wasn't mad, sad, or anything that rhymes with pad. I was stunned. We needed a change at quarterback, so we thought. The whole next week, I just wanted to make a bowl game...6 wins I said...6 wins. Get Baylor and then get Colorado and we'll be bowling. That is probably what most of Husker nation thought. Well we got our man Cody Green to start the Baylor game. After a 20-10 win, I wondered is our offense really this bad. Well then came the big bad Sooners of Oklahoma into Lincoln. The crowd was ecentric. The In the Deed the Glory game got us pumped up quick. Oour defense absolutely dominated them. I felt like how I felt two weeks before...stunned. When the last pass of the night came out of the sky and dropped into Matt O'Hanlon's arms for this 3rd interception, all I could think was "Sooner Magic...Phh". Then we reeled off 3 more wins in a row...a comeback against Kansas, a north division clinch against Kansas State, and a tune up game against our "rival" Colorado, we were up against a task like no other. The number three Texas Longhorns. As I made my way into Cowboy Stadium...I kept thinking to myself that something special is going to happen tonight. We shut down their offense for the entire game and when alex Henery made his last of four field goals I couldn't help but want to cry. I'll always remember before Adi kicked off, I took my shoe off as some fans do, and one Texas fan said a few rows above me..."Put your shoes back on!" Well I don't know is that was just irony but we all know how the rest of the game turned out. I would love to into detail about my celebration of the win, my family's tears, and then the loss, but we have all heard way too much about that. So then came the Arizona Wildcats. These Wildcats weren't quite as big of tools as the other Power Cats we all know and love. We dominated them in both ways. Are you ready for the Cornhusker Express v 2010? I am 16 and hoping to be a sportwriter when I am older.
  5. dont say we didnt beat anyone...we beat tough teams...that are on their way back up...
  6. In no particular order 1. Nebraska vs Texas A&M 2006- Purify's catch will not be forgotten...28-27 2. Nebraska vs Colorado 2000- Crouch led us down field with passes to Newcombe after Colorado 2 point conversion...Josh Brown game winner...34-32 3. Nebraska vs Michigan 2005- no one gave us a chance...until the the final man was tackled...32-28 4. Nebraska vs Missouri 2009- What a fun comeback..27-12... 5. Nebraska vs Texas 2009- ha we all know..12-13 I know its hard to choose but try your best
  7. I went to all the home games this year, and also virginia tech, texas, and kansas. But my favorite game this year was Missouri, just because we were down and out...honestly i didnt think our offense had a chance in hell in moving the ball and when lee hit niles for his 2nd td pass...my friends and I yelled our asses off in my house. Beating Missouri was great especially the way we beat them.
  8. the students have awesome seats...right now...so dont complain
  9. but arizona beat stanford and lost in double ot to oregon
  10. I know there was a second left but this was my reaction of the last minute fourty four of the game. When Alex Henery lined up for the field goal I was extremely nervous. It would just be a heartbreaker to lose a game on a missed or blocked kick. I was sitting with my dad, uncle, aunt, and cousin and we were eye level to the wide big screen opposite the texas side. When I saw the kick go up I knew he had it and I thought we would probably win because this had the makings of the colorado game from last year. I also had a similar feeling I had during the entire virginia tech game. I was also at the virginia tech game in blacksburg. But after Henery made the kick to put us up 12-10 against Texas I looked and I saw tears in my dads eyes. These were obviously tears of joy. But it went from winning the game to losing the game. I had the losing feeling right after Adi kicked the ball out of bounds. Then when Asante tackled Shipyley with the horse collar it almost seemed like our fate was sealed, but you always are confident we may block a kick with how many we blocked this year. So when we tackled McCoy for two short losses I thought that this would make the kick more stressful for their kicker. But then the clock started ticking down when McCoy rolled to his right...and I was watching the clock on the big screen, 5...4...3....McCoy throws the ball away...2....1...the ball hits the ground...0. I started jumping up and down chanting were number one and I jumped into my dad's arms...and he said what happened. I told him the clock hit zero and I saw the Nebraska players run on the field like we won the national championship. I felt after driving for 10 hours from Columbus, Nebraska leaving at 11PM friday night, that it all seemed entirely worth it, but going to away/bowl games is always worth it anyway. But then I knew there might be a second left, and they reviewed it. But it seemed like the review took so short that they said the game would be over. But we all know what happened. Then when Texas lined up for the field goal, I just said if there is a God in the world to please let us block this kick. When the kick got up I looked to the Texas fans behind the goal post and they didn't seem to really celebrate while the ball was heading towards the goal posts. Then the entire stadium erupted and all I could do was sit down put my face in my hands, and try to cry, but I couldn't. Then my dad said let's go and I saw one tear roll down his right cheek, that may have symbolized that one second that changed so many of our outlook on this football program. I am 16 years old.
  11. Wow, 80 games! Sweet. And prolly not from the nosebleed section if you’ve been to bowl games, B12 CCG games and all. I’d bet dollars to donuts your dad or mom works for UNL. That’s prolly more games than 90% of the people on this board. More than me. And I’m a UNL grad. Ha! The Pittsburg game you mentioned--was that the one where you could see the flooding river right outside the Pitt stadium? Im lucky enough for my grandpa to have been season ticket holders since 1962...he was part of the touchdown club...throughout my dad's family we have 8 tickets...for home games...and about the pittsburgh game it was in 2005..correction...2004 was at pitt and we won 24-17...but the game I am talking about is the one we won in Lincoln in 2005....7-6.... I have been to mostly every home game since 2001...went to a few in 99 and 00....my away/bowl/conference championships consist of the following 2001- Missouri 2001- Kansas 2003- Alamo Bowl 2006- USC 2008- Kansas State 2009- Virginia Tech 2009- Kansas 2009- Big 12 Championship I apologize I was just on my brother's account...I was the one who has been to these away games...and started topic...my bad
  12. 1. Nebraska vs Texas 2009- Well we all knew how this went down. But after Alex made the field goal to put us up 12-10...I saw my father and he had tears in his eyes. All I could do was hug him and tell him we are going to win. As soon as they got into Nebraska territory you had the feeling we would lose after the horse collar. But when McCoy rolled out, I was watching the clock. We were about eye level with the big screen, I watched the clock slowly tick down. He threw it out of bounds and I saw the clock hit :00. I started jumping up and down and hugging my dad. He said what happened and I said look at the clock. He started twirling me around and I put my right hand in the air and started screaming we are number one. Then they said they would put a second back on the clock. Once they finally lined up for the field goal...I said if there is a God in the world, then we will block this kick. Once the kick was in the air I looked to the Texas fans behind the goalposts. They had not given a reaction yet, so I thought he may have missed it. Once he made it, I felt like crying. I also went to the Virginia Tech game this year, and I had the same feeling after he made that kick, as when Vtech scored late. But this was easily the best game I have been to. I have never been to a game where I celebrated a win when the clock his :00 and we lost. But I did witness one thing after this game: the "real" resurgence of Husker football. 2. Nebraska vs Oklahoma 2009- This was a real toss up for me because I was also at the Oklahoma game in 2001. But this game was electric. The tunnel walk started with the In the deed the glory video, which really got the crowd fired up. After we blocked their 2nd field goal attempt, the crowd was absolutely electric. My dad and I yelled the whole game. I will never forget when Asante hit their receiver and his helmet rolled to the ground. I have never seen Memorial Stadium that loud for an entire game in my existence. Once O'Hanlon intercepted the ball, I started hugging all the other fellow season ticket holders around me along with my dad. The 70 year old man who cannot stop talking to me before the game said it best when the clock his zero. "We're going bowling." 3. Nebraska vs Oklahoma 2001- This game was amazing for me. This game was involved in my first ten Husker games and the crowd was electric this game. I will never forget Jason White limping off the sideline after we hit him hard. What a shame, he was out for the season. It was such an ugly game throughout the first half and until about mid way through the 4th quarter. But when they handed off to Thunder and he pitched it back to Mike Stuntz he threw it to Eric Crouch and scored, it was 2nd loudest time I had ever seen Memorial Stadium. I remember listening to the radio call of this score after the game. "Crouch hands it off to Thunder who gives it back to Mike Stuntz...he's gonna throw it...and he's got a man out there at the 40...and it's...Eric Crouch!!! 15...10...5...Touchdown Nebraska...Yes!" 4. Nebraska vs Colorado 2008- We all thought Joe Ganz blew the game and maybe the season for us when he got sacked back at the Colorado 40. When Alex Henery trotted out there to do the impossible, I thought Bo was crazy. "Go for it," I said, "There is no way he will make it." When he got the kick up I wondered if he would have enough distance, but once he made it. I went crazy, and the guy in front of me looked at me and said, "You didn't want him to kick it." My dad twirled me around and Memorial Stadium was the loudest I have ever heard it. Then when Suh picked it off was a great ending to an unbelievable game. Bo said it best about Suh after the game, "He keeps telling me he's a running back." 5. Nebraska vs Pittsburgh 2003- This is an odd game that just stood out in my mind. Cory Ross scored the lone touchdown for the Huskers in the 2nd quarter. Then Pitt went to kick the game winning field goal with 7 seconds left and they snapped the ball and hit off the holder's helmet and went 5 yards backwards. One second was left though and they went to kick it again and we blocked it. The cover of Huskers Illustrated said it best the next week "Block Party." I am 16 years old and have been to 80 Husker games including home, away, bowl, and conference championship games. I hope to become a future sports writer when I am older.
