  1. Here in Madison, many of us have been hoping for something like this for a while! He doesn't do well in close games, tightens up and gets too conservative. Now I know why we used so many new alignments on Saturday night; Alvarez must have known and let the OC make the play calls. It will be interesting to see who we bring in. (I'm sure a lot of you hope it's Bo! ;-) Good luck to the Huskers in the Capital One. Your team is a hell of a lot better than the score on Saturday and I'm sure most Badger fans will be pulling for you. I'm looking forward to the next contest between the Badgers and the Huskers. (whenever that will be.) I've been to all three and it is already a great rivalry. You have classy fans in general, and I for one am hoping like hell they realign us and put us in with you and Iowa.

  3. I, and I'm sure the rest of the fans in the Big 10, would love to see NU start hockey and join the Big 10 as a Division I program. (Same goes for basketball
  4. The league had to do something. Suh hadn't responded to the two earlier fines, and why should he? What's 45K when he has a contract for 40 million? Missing a couple of games might turn out to be a good thing for him in the long run. Hopefully he'll finally get the message to keep his head on straight when he's on the field. He is a great player and will get better with some experience and a bit of maturing. He's got a long career ahead of him if he doesn't blow it.
  5. I agree with ShawnWatson, we shouldn't jump to conclusions that the dispenser didn't have it coming. Perhaps it was chanting, :"Eat Sh_t, F_ck You" like our students were. In that case the dispenser deserved it. If a messed up towel dispenser is the only damage we incurred with the invasion of all those fans, and a frustrated team, that's pretty damn good. You're welcome back anytime. Just take it easy on our towels :-)
  6. If you live in Wisconsin, and even if you don't, you are welcome to jump on the Packers and Brewers bandwagon, if that will help you forget about the Huskers this year. Or you can go to a lake, or find a hill to enjoy. :-) OK, I admit that was uncalled for, just having fun. There is life after college football, at least in Wisconsin anyway. Trust us we know, we've had teams that were bad for entire decades. Nebraska had one bad game, and maybe a nonHusker type year, but Nebraska football has always been one of the nation's elite programs, and will continue to be. Be proud of your team in red, even it has an N instead of a W on the jersey!
  7. I had the pleasure of meeting many Husker fans before the game at our tailgate party, at ESPN Game Day, in the stadium, and after the game. We enjoyed sharing a beer or two (in some cases a lot more than that) with some of them. (Most of them had no idea what a brandy old fashion was, but we'll work on that next time.) The vast majority of Husker fans we ran into were universally pleasant and passionate about Husker football, were happy to be in the Big 10, and happy to be in Madison. The fans we ran into were all great embassadors for the state of Nebraska and for Husker football. I'm sure they were all disappointed with the way the game turned out, and I regret to say I'm sure some of them ran into some embarrassingly rude fan behavior along the way. I hope they enjoyed their visit none the less. Nebraska fans are great football fans. I truly believe that vast majority of Badger and Husker fans are good, like-mided folks, sharing a passion for their football teams. Both teams' fans can get a bit cocky, but that comes with success, I guess. As far the outcome of this particular game, I know the teams were much closer matched than the score indicated, but I'll enjoy it while I can since I know the roles will be reversed down the road as the rivalry proceeds. Our two programs have a lot of similarities. We don't have the National titles NU has, not yet anyway, but we do share a passion for the game, and a rich tradition. We are glad to welcome Nebraska to the Big 10. You are a great fit, and I for one will be cheering for you the rest of the way(until we meet in Indianapolis that is!) Go Huskers!
  8. I agree with Paul in WI; What happened two coaches ago with losses does not reflect one bit on how the current team will perform tomorrow. To be consistent, past national championships (dating back to the last century) don't mean a hill of beans either. None of these players were out of grade school the last time that happened. Tomorrow's game will be decided by the players on the field, not by some legacy of past successes, or failures. We don't care, and our players don't care if Nebraska hasn't had a lot of road success lately against top ten teams, nor do we care if they had five national chamionships in the past. Those players won't be on the field tomorrow. Nobody is going to be thinking about previous teams come 7:00 p.m.
  9. Agreed, JJHusker, I've been to every Big 10 venue and a lot of other stadiums watching the Badgers and the worst experience by far was at Colorado. Those fans were in your face before during and after the game. A bunch or real jags. And this was after they beat us pretty badly. In the Big 10, my favorites to visit are Ohio State (similar pregame setup to Madison) and Penn State (huge tailgate area.) Iowa should be good when Nebraska comes to town, Michigan has very little atmosphere around the stadium, even though it's the "Big House." The rest are OK, with Northwestern having the feel of an overgrown high school stadium.
  10. If you are looking for tickets for the game Saturday, I recommend NOT buying Student Tickets. You may be required to show student ID getting into the one gate that is allowed for students, (Gate 5 at the north end.) If that's the case, you've just wasted a whole lot of money. IF you get in, you will be in unreserved seats (even though the tickets might have a seat location on them.) You might find the territory to be quite hostile. Better to go to the bars Friday night or Saturday morning before they get too crowded and ask the bartenders if they know of anyone inside trying to unload tickets. The Brewers play their first playoff game at 1:00, so I expect the bars will already be full by then (we tend to bounce our attention between the Brewers, the Packers and the Badgers.)
  11. Nebraska fans might be surprised by the general good hospitality in Madison, (I encourage you all to visit the Farmer's Market around the Capitol Square on Saturday morning and walk down State Street,) As has been stated in this string, near the stadium there may also be some foolish behavior by random idiots. You should be prepared for some pretty obscene shirts on the students, including "F__K Nebraska". You also see some shirts that say "Eat Sh_t" on the front and "F__K You" on the back. That is in reference to one of their "chants" during the game. It is not directed at the opposing team, but is directed at themselves. Section 0 is in the middle of the student section, and the old chant used to be the other student sections J, K, L, M, N and P all chanting "0 Sucks" and the section 0 folks chanting "N Sucks P." Well, over the lasts several years it has "evolved" into "Eat Sh_t, - F__k You". It is an embarrassing cheer for the rest of us and the university has tried to dissuade them, including a new comically pathetic attempt to put up an add on the video screen encouraging the students with the same for letters, ES-FU, representing the phrase "Every Student Friendly United" or something like that. It's a great student section, but when you combine that many kids in a group mentality and just a bit of alcohol, well, things like ES-FU happen. Don't be concerned about attending the outdoor tailgates, or bars or any of that. You'll be treated well, and the vendors are happy to take your money. Looking forward to seeing the Big Red/Black horde invading Madison on Saturday. (A good place to go Friday night is the terrace on the lake behind the Memorial Union on Langdon St, where there is always music and a great mix of students and others, and they many varieties of local microbrews as well as the local fare (bratwurst.) There is also a local bar near the stadium, the Regent St. Retreat at 1206 Regent St., hosting a band from Lincoln; the Sidetrack Band. they'll be there Friday night and Saturday at noon. Safe and enjoyable travels to you all, but I have to say, Go Bucky!!"
  12. Yes, Toon can be shut down, but Nebraska will have to do more than that to stop Wisconsin's office. There are other good receivers to fill in the gaps behind him. Wilson does a good job of hitting the second and third options, and he is a big threat to run. If the UW running game gets going, shutting down Toon won't really matter much.
  13. I agree with TAW. I usually tailgate for the Badger games at a small parking lot at Regent and Park, and I always bring an extra beer or two for visiting fans. There also happens to be a liquor store right across the street. badger fans like to drink, and we don't care who we're drinking with, even if they have a goofy looking foam corn cob on their head! :-) This game is being viewed as a very big one in Madison, see attached link from the local paper http://host.madison.com/wsj/sports/college/football/article_b94b3fcf-8878-561e-8537-aeb0d5d98e21.html Note some bars are advertising for Nebrask fans (as if they needed any more patrons on a game day.) the Regent Street Retreat at 1206 Regent Street, about three blocks east of the stadium, is hosting a Lincoln based band; the Sidetrack Band on Friday night and again at noon on Saturday. Safe travels.
  14. The Stadium Bar on Randall St. is right across the street from the stadium. It's the biggest outdoor tailgating bar with a large screen outside and a large number of TV secreens inside. It will be a great place to watch the game for any fans who can't find tickets (which will likely be most fans who don't have them already. The Stadium Bar is also a great place to go before the game. Other good TV bars are found all along Regent St. from the Stadium to Park St, including the Big 10 Pub, the Annex and Lucky's. They'll all be packed before the game since parking and tailgating near the stadium are very limited.
  15. MuskyTCHusker, The main group of visiting fans at Camp Randall, including players' parents, cheerleaders, etc are always in sections W and X, usually in the first twenty or so seats. The seats are relatively low and close to the south end zone, at the goal line. That would be the prime Husker location. I expect you'll have a lot of fans in sections Y3 and Z3; those are both end zone seats. There will probably also be a well populated Husker section in the upper deck; AA or JJ (upper deck sections are all double letter.) Any place in the stadium will work, since it sounds like there probably Husker fans scattered about. Either way, the vast majority of Badger fans will welcome you and will expect you to make noise for your team. We're not like Colorado fans! :-) Tickets have been at a premium and they won't be cheap. Try the corner of Regent and Monroe just south of the stadium. Safe travels, Welcome to Madison, but I gotta say, Go Bucky!
