I've watched most all of USC's games this year. They can score pretty easily when Kessler gets time - a lot of time on rolling out. USC is 15h in the nation in passing...but only 70th in rushing. You can run on USC - see Boston College and UCLA games...that's the blueprint, control the ball and keep Kessler off the field. Like I said before, USC's run game is pedestrian. If Nebraska just sits back with their linebackers like usual - USC can eat them apart on short passes. Nebraska will simply have to attack and blitz and take their chances and have to be able to pound it.

What is funny about this comment to me (and this is 100% something i just heard from a friend and don't necessarily believe it to be real) but a friend of mine claimed he saw Pelini at McDonalds berating a Mcdonald's employee in much the same way he berates officials over messing up his order, supposedly saying stuff like "this is why you work here." It is funny - in the midst of this childish rant...he goes all PC when it comes to McDonalds. Calling your boss a female *expletive (twice) is cool - but don't upset the good folks at Mickey D's.

I love how Chris Fowler and Co. had to go on an offensive to blast people for saying ESPN has a total SEC bias and agenda. Calling them tinfoil crowd. It's not tinfoil when you have a business partnership with the SEC...and like printing money - nothing was more obvious when ESPN pushed Bama to get a rematch with LSU during the Okie State/OU game as the Cowboys were blasting the Sooners...all the announcers just dismissed it during the game and they had Saban on gameday promoting his cause.

Yeah, he probably shouldve. He obviously got out a few years too early. Remember when he flirted with the Seahawks and Michigan St job? Obviously he still had the itch and got out simply for loyalty to a friend in a promise. But god, could you imagine what transpires if he does remain and keeps the staff intact for another 3-5 years? That train was rollin by '97, and Solich lived off it for 4 years before it finally fell off. Imagine if TO stays and keeps it rollin and even possible improves. I also think Osborne retired when he did realizing there were some huge changes to the NCAA coming down the pipeline that would affect recruiting and such. I also think with the changes that had happened going from the Big 8 to the Big 12 were also a reason why retired. I completely agree with this. TO even spoke about it many times after he retired. The world was changing and he knew it. This is completely false, whether TO saw imminent changes in college football has nothing to do with his retirement. He made an agreement with Frank Solich, his longtime assistant that he would give him the reigns after the '96 season. I believe this was a plan set in stone before TO even won a National Championship. After the 96 season was completed he knew the '97 class would be pretty good and wanted to send the seniors out and "possibly" himself with a national title. The facts are, TO had health concerns, over time it became obvious that Frank Solich would be his successor although other programs were trying to lure him away from Lincoln. That is why he agreed to hand over the program to FS, long before he actually did. He groomed him so that nothing much would change in the program, unfortunately thats not how college football works. While TO may cite what allowed the program to be great, like being one step ahead of everyone else, there is no reason to assume that he wouldn't try to keep on the edge of innovation. It defined his tenure, his ability to change, adapt and transform. It was his health and fear of what he built might come crashing down, that led to his retirement. And, really what else did he have to prove? There is no doubt in my mind that TO would have put forth a John Wooden type of run if he had stayed, but his retirement would have left the program just a shadow of itself, regardless of when he retired. Uh no! CFB is too diverse - too many good teams...hell even the years Nebraska "won" the MNC - Penn State had a claim to half of it - that was a crazy offensive team. And '97 shared again (I think TO rep got that one) TO wasn't winning 11 National Titles - if he stayed. You are saying he would have won...from '95 to 2005. Uh...yeah..what about Miami and USC as roadblocks?

Why do people keep saying "splash hire"? There's only one Urban Meyer and Nick Saban walking around and they weren't leaving just like Malzhan...hell, none of the SEC coaches are coming to Nebraska and none of new Pac-12 coaches were leaving...Peterson, Rich Rod, Graham, Leach, Sark. Riley left because he never tried anything else in college but Oregon State and wanted to see what he could do at a big program before he retires. What worries me about Riley is his drive. He can always probably go back to OSU with his tail between his legs if it doesn't work out...or simply retire. He got really comfortable at fielding mediocre teams at OSU. I don't know what fight he has in him. Maybe deep down (the reason he took the job) is to prove he can win big (although he already has the respect of his colleagues and the media). I would have preferred someone with a chip on their shoulder (not Bo idiot chip - but hungry) and younger. But I like the Riley hire...he's a really good coach...just hope he keeps the passion as a coaches son.

Maybe because they have 5 National Championships... well obviously. but my question still stands. Do 5 titles in a span of 14 years, in two different eras, and having been completely irrelevant for the last decade completely erase their almost entire history as a non power? I mean, you look at programs like Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio St, Bama, USC, Texas. Those are traditional powers. Theyre almost always good going back through history. I guess that's my point. Miami just doesnt belong in that category. Theyre so come and go. you could probably throw out texas and usc based on that too though. Huh? You don't know your history. Bull. For god's sake man...it's the Holiday Bowl! This bowl has provided the most entertainment and surprises the last 40 years. There is something magical about the Holiday Bowl...it is always high scoring and always entertaining. For some reason this bowl always comes down to: defense need not apply. I expect high scoring and giddiness for next year.

You are right. They have a nice history and great stadium...but UT has never really been considered a king of CFB. Miami is new money but that new money was so dominant and flashy they immediately jumped into the top tier. I hate Miami but the talent in Florida and what they did...it's shocking they aren't always great...sort of like when USC sucked in the 90's...with all that talent in Cali. It shows it all comes down to coaches and not your state and not your name. Nebraska can win Big10 titles and come back with the right coach and momentum and frenzy and coolness just like USC coming back with Pete Carroll. USC was dead and then caught fire. Name brands just need a spark...and Nebraska has that name brand...to be the cool place to go to again. Here are the Kings as Stewart Mandel pointed out a few years ago: USC, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas. All those above programs should always be great...(LSU is included just because of the talent in Louisiana - (Cali, Florida and Texas have the most) but per capita Louisiana has the most players in the NFL...there is no reason LSU should ever suck...they should have a better history but Saban woke up that state. But LSU isn't a true King in terms of history. They are a Baron. USC, Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Nebraska and Oklahoma are the Kings. No UT.

I don't get why they are ranking this bowl game so low? CFN had it at #25! Seriously? Two power programs...two historic programs...sure both lost some games but nobody stunk it up. 9-3 vs.o 9-4 but both (especially USC...really) could have at least one less loss and really two (and for USC it's two boneheaded can't cover onside kicks in consecutive games). And it's the freakin' Holiday Bowl One of the best and most entertaining of the non-traditional top 5 bowls. Holiday Bowl is right behind the the Top 5 bowls. My uncle was a professor at Madison for a few years...loved it. Corvallis is a sleepy old thyme town...I wouldn't want to live there...but Riley liked it and Anderson is a WC guy...maybe he wants that...maybe he wants to coach in the Pac-12 and leave snow behind? Right now the Pac is the better conference by a good margin over the Big10. I don't know...but something feels like the Wisky administration rubbed him the wrong way or pissed him off.

Their run game sucks. Sure they rushed for 205 yards against ND last game, but ND was so overrated. USC rushed for 62 yards against UCLA the week before. Their offense revolves around moving Kessler around and rolling him out for short passes...typical Sark and Pac-12 stuff...bubble screens and fake spread read option slant passes. USC doesn't really drive the ball down the field that often...so Nebraska will have trouble due to lack of time getting any pressure on Kessler...expect up-tempo and spreading the ball around sideline to sideline.

As I said, he's stuck in his ways...which has hurt him recently in the Pac-12. If Michigan goes back to smash-mouth - if Wisky stays the same, etc. He will be fine for the conference opponents. But he's really struggled with the Kelly-Oregon, RIch-Rod Arizona, UW Sark stuff.
