  1. Riley coached at USC from 93-96. Orgeron was from 98-04 and 10-13. Thought I read somewhere that they knew each other from USC. My apologies, you guise I read that also, but it's incorrect. I heard Riley say he didn't know Orgeron, but they did share an agent. Oil and water don't mix. They are way too different people to be on the same staff together.
  2. It's not really Bankers fault...everything changed in CFB and especially in the Pac-12 and initially nobody could stop this hurry-up spread stuff. Hell, USC with Pete Carroll's 5 Star recruits couldn't stop Oregon once they got going. Then Arizona with Rich Rod and ASU with Graham and Leach being all over the place passing 65 times a game and then you have to regroup and play Stanford which is smash-mouth. Look at Auburn and Bama this year...look at Baylor and TCU.... And yet Banker has had to deal with a more diverse offensive base than the SEC or Big10. Constant speed it up and spread it all around. Before 2008 he was considered really good. His defense held the #1 offense in the country to 21 points in a win against USC and to 30 points in another win. But yeah...he doesn't seem to have solved the new offenses - he's an old sort NFL guy...look how lame Monte Kiffin was at USC...gave up the most points in a season in the history of USC football. (And Monte was supposed to be some defensive genius) As long as most teams in the Big10 don't adopt Oregon's O - I think Nebraska will be just fine on D.
  3. And therefore living in denial...expecting Saban or Malzhan to come here. It's difficult to coach in the Midwest these days. The talent is in the South and on the Coasts...and that's why the Pac-12 has gotten a bunch of hot coaches flocking to the conference. Nebraska is lucky to have Riley. I'm surprised he left Oregon State...I think his style of O fits in well with the Big10 while it was starting to not fit in well with the hyper-aggressive Pac-12 (UCLA, Arizona, Oregon, ASU, hell even USC now) Riley is safe personality-wise and not caustic...and he just might win football games. But there's no way in hell the administration was going to replace Bo with someone like Leach or anyone controversial...and Nebraska wasn't getting a "splash hire" whatever that means. A lot has changed in 20 years in CFB.
  4. Yeah...have fun recruiting to Corvallis with the golden jewel of Nike money right next door. Oregon has the best facilities now in the nation - they are insane and insanely pampered...and OSU has high school stuff. Anderson will find out the hard way...like the Durham Bulls trying to sign players over the NY Yankees.
  5. Well the lifetime contract golden boy was only getting around 1.5M (lowest in the Pac-12) - so Anderson probably took a pay cut. OSU doesn't have money just laying around. They are great at one sport that doesn't make money (college baseball)
  6. Love it. You hab to aknowledge his post having had had an affect. It's ironic or myabe just a coincidence, don't ya think?
  7. Clearly you were not a Rhodes Scholar.
  8. 3. Downgrade hire. I fall into this group. The reason we are unhappy is because we care about Nebraska and feel this hire sets us back 5 years (1-3 until he's gone, another 1-3 to turn it back around) just to get back to where we are now. I am highly confident that this will be the case. I therefore have very little hope for the next few years. That is depressing. Maybe he will prove me wrong. But I said the same thing the day BC was hired and it was an extremely long and painful 4 years. People who fall into this category scream ignorant to me. People who stayed isolated in the Big10 and didn't stay up to watch any Pac-12 football the last 10 years and don't understand how good and diverse that conference is and didn't watch Riley knocking off #1 USC in consecutive years...and didn't watch his physical teams with smart run games and future all-pro running backs. The only people who hate the Riley hire are ignorant fans with a small college football TV watching history...if you didn't know Mike Riley before this hire, you are not a true fan of CFB but an insular and sheltered idiot and your opinion doesn't matter.
  9. It's not easy being a DC in the Pac-12 as the offenses are so diverse...and he was not a good fit in the Pac-12. He could work in the Big10 - but won't stop Ohio State. Oregon State played Stanford really tough on D and kept it low scoring in 2012-2013. Built to handle Wisky.
  10. Steve Sarkisian on playing Nebraska in the Holiday Bowl: “We are excited to go play in the Holiday Bowl and be the first USC team to do so. We get to play close to home and our fans will show up in force. They’ll get to see a pair of Top 25 teams with storied football heritages. Having been to the Holiday Bowl when I was at Washington, I know this bowl experience will be a good one for our players and fans. “We are hungry and determined to finish our season off well. We hope to use the momentum we have coming off our win over Notre Dame. But we’ll face a real challenge against a very good Nebraska team. Although they have made a coaching change, teams in transition like that usually band together and play well, as we saw last year here at USC and at Washington.
  11. Steve Sarkisian’s only bowl victory as a head coach was the 2010 Holiday Bowl, a 19-7 victory over Nebraska.
  12. Might be one of the best bowl games. USC is better than their record...allowed three onside kicks and a hail mary to give them two extra losses. USC could easily be 11-2.
  13. There won't be more than 3,000 USC fans there...that might even be pushing it. Uh...no. That's the easiest road trip...and San Diego is a popular road trip regardless at USC. I think USC fans show up...b/c of name brand opponent. If USC had been playing Fresno State...then yes, not much attendance. USC fans get the bigotry that is really ignorant sometimes. It could have been worse, the Sun Bowl. Great excuse for Nebraska fans to go to Cali - San Diego is great.
  14. OSU Opponents Total Offense: Hawaii- 72nd SDSU- 67th USC- 31st Colorado- 41st Utah- 87th Stanford- 77th Cal- 15th WSU- 6th ASU- 34th Wash- 49th Oregon- 1st Nebraska Opponents Total Offense: Flor Atlantic-96th Fresno- 54th Miami- 45th Illinois- 101st MSU- 14th NW- 105th Rutgers- 84th Purdue- 109th Wisc- 20th Minnesota- 104th Iowa- 69th Stats aren't everything but overall OSU played against better Offenses. EXCELLENT POST SIR! +1 Are Big10 defenses better than Pac12 defenses? No.
  15. Corvallis is an armpit. I was at the Fog Bowl against USC. Cold, rainy...fans wearing beanies drinking Natty Light...huddling around burning trash cans trying to get warm like homeless people before the game. It's so high schoolish.
  16. I have watched them too. Soft? Only the last two years. Yes, Riley and Co. has regressed. But they were not soft in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 when #1 USC had dogfights on their hands. Oregon rising to unreal levels under Kelly really hurt Riley and his efforts. But his teams were always a blue-collar Boise-esque team that punched above their weight.
  17. Yeah...OSU's D has been horrid. Cal, Wazzu and Colorado are the only ones who can claim to be worse. 59 points given up to Eastern Washington?????
  18. Banker... Only Cal, Wazzu and Colorado were worse on defense than Oregon State the last few years. Riley needs to dump this guy despite his loyalty.
  19. Frost said his dream would be to bring Oregon's offense to Nebraska but with bigger bodies. Chip Kelly invented a system and philosophy that just works (and is still working in the Pros) - Frost was lucky to mentor under that...and now he has the blueprint to carry it wherever he goes. It's not just the offense or gameplanning...it's the entire method of approaching football and practice, etc. Helfrich is just carrying on...how often do you see that, where new head coaches come in and don't change anything...but stick with the old blueprint...well, you used to see it at Nebraska.
  20. Since my sis went to UO, I follow the Ducks. Frost said his goal early on was to make the Ducks more physical...keep the speed but be like old Nebraska physical. Oregon was never going to beat an SEC team for the title playing small and fast.
  21. Just so you don't make this mistake again. It's..."I couldn't care less" As you stated, you still care... Correcting him is far more annoying. I know it's annoying to be that internet grammar guy. But...as I said, for his sake...just so he knows the difference in the future. It's not just him. I used to do it...and most Americans tend to get that wrong. Nothing wrong with a little education.
  22. Just so you don't make this mistake again. It's..."I couldn't care less" As you stated, you still care...
  23. Lived in Oregon for 8 years. Canzano is known as garbage "Us Weekly" troller up in in Oregon. The Oregonian is hurting like all newspapers...he's been try to sell his bit for years. He would rag on the Ducks when they were rolling just to get views.
