  1. Well, that pic takes some of the wind outta my sails.
  2. It's believable enough. Smoke and fire and all that. It makes the most sense if a deal is already done, of course, or if Tress is truly just consulting. If it's consulting, I would be disappointed though. If a deal is already done, they aren't making much effort to hide anything. Hard to know what to make of all this. Heck, maybe that's half the strategy. The least likely place to hide is right in front of everyone in public. Just as we are all doing, it would seem too unbelievable to everyone, and not answer anything at all.
  3. Timing issue may be (probably is) that NU has to have a publicly posted position available for EEO reasons. I believe the required length is ONE WEEK. So, if that is correct, they couldn't name a coach if they wanted to for at least a week from firing Bo. That might be why they were quick to get it done. In the past, certain schools would 'post' notice of the job. But to get to it, you had to swim through a 300 yard gasoline-filled pool of alligators in the third basement of the condemned, abandoned building somewhere in the old campus from the 1800's to view it. This practice ended when 'some' people (likely competing schools) got tired of it and complained. In any case, I hope we make a good hire. I'd be happy with a frog or a vest to lead and a frost-monster in waiting. A Harbaugh would be great, but I would always be a little worried about the NFL, no matter how much we paid. Pro teams are in another financial world.
  4. You're NOT Frankie. What gives you the right to say 'RELAX'?
  5. We can be reasonably sure that SE already knew who to contact and what to say regarding the NCAA. He has certainly been dealing with them when at Miami. He walked into that mess without knowledge of what he was getting into, but may have exited with good tools to deal with a Tressel type of issue. If so, we are probably way out in front on this. The kids are always upset when a change occurs. Who wouldn't be. Hopefully it is Tressel or someone of similar experience. That should help defuse things.
  6. T shirt idea number one. A nod to our mutual histories, storied titles, and plans for the future. Nebraska Home of Tats and Nats
  7. Not sure if this has been asked but, is this EZ? I doubt it is EZ. He hasn't mentioned any HC experience so far. And if EZ had such experience, I imagine we would all know about it.
  8. Ermm. I was at the meeting, actually. Well, I was at some meeting. We discussed . . . stuff. It's all really, really secret. I ain't uh'posed be telling anyone. And there were rumors. And cookies. Now, where's my trophy?
  9. Hudspeth? God, no! That guy is working on his fourth or fifth season with a 4 loss record. That's right. 4 losses. Every year for the last 3 years headed into 2014 and he is on track to find his 4th loss in the next couple weeks. Let's try for better than that, if we are going to dump Bo.
  10. As posted earlier, Iowa is an odd team from week to week. A box of chocolates if you will. I'd be incredibly wary of writing them off. If we win the next two, Iowa (regardless of their own results) will look at the Black Friday game as a chance to crash any dreams or hopes that are an option for Nebraska at that time. I expect them to come out tough. If we can convince them early that they have no chance, we will likely sweep the floor with them. But if we let them hang long into the 2nd quarter, it could get dicey.
  11. Indeed!!!! Fun for you, for you, AND for you!! Fun for me. Fun for everyone!!! Why the heck not? When was the last time we were in this position, if barely outside the conversation, at this point in the year. The team has different priorities than the fans have to, of course, but this is looking like a great few weeks of speculation, regardless of the ultimate outcome. I am taking as much joy rooting AGAINST teams as I am FOR the Huskers. That is a great thing. Now, hoping K State or TCU will lay 70 on one or the other, and win by a 55 point margin!
  12. Would I be correct in these assumptions for Nebraska's (admittedly long) CFP hopes: 1. Generally speaking we want the underdog to win and win big. 2. In teams ranked above us at the time of the game, we'd prefer scenario 1, but almost as good (even better?) for the losing team regardless of ranking to get utterly blown out so they fall past us in the rankings? I'm sure there are a couple exceptions, where we want a team to stay ranked well until a specific game. But those will probably change weekly for our hopes to stay alive. Please correct any bad assumptions I have. Also, I hope we keep this thread updated weekly with best outcomes for the Huskers. Of course, we have to win out along the way, the bigger the better. I harbor hope that we can do so, but won't be disappointed if we don't. The team has generally played as well as I hoped thus far into the season. Best wishes, Flood
  13. Assuming that aTm blows out Auburn (#3) in the fashion currently occurring, let's say a final score in the range of aTm 55-60 and Auburn 28-35, will Auburn drop below us? They should, I think, but who knows with the SEC. That would be an unforeseen loss to an unranked aTm that most didn't see coming. Or does that somehow vault the Aggies into the Top 15 or higher? Speculation I know, but in a fun way. Rarely do I find myself wanting to scream Go Aggies! or War Dog or whatever they say there. Pass the Mason Jar? Nah, that's going too far, even for me.
  14. Here is why some are shaking their heads. You may be too young to remember: The victory over the Huskers put ISU football in the spotlight and put a blemish in the Tom Osborne era at the storied Husker program. The Cyclones handed Osborne his only loss to a team with a losing record, his first loss to a Big 8 Conference team not named Colorado or Oklahoma since 1978, and it gave Husker quarterback Tommy Frazier his only loss to a Big 8 team. Anything can happen in any game. ISU was terrible that year. Nebraska was in contention for a possible MNC. In at least two other years I remember, the Huskers could have added 2 MORE MNC's to the case in the 90's. Things happen. No win is guaranteed. I agree. We will likely win at least 2 of the next 3. The third could be a toss-up. Or we could lose em all. Or win em all. Having been humbled by the Callahan years and watching a 9 or 10 win coach fired for not winning the 'right' games will put things in perspective a bit. I hope we win em all. And I hope we somehow end up in the playoffs. I hope we win the first CFP. I also hope we don't get badly embarrassed in any of those games. Is it better to make it to a MNC and lose by 45 or more, or not to make it at all? I don't know, even after our lucky trip in 2001. It's not worth thinking about at the moment. One thing, one game at a time. I think that's what most are saying or trying to.
  15. I like how this was written. Urban Meyer is so low they don't bother to spell his name correctly. Also, the writer makes it THE Ohio State blah blah blah. I guess the Bo-haters will have to wait at least another year, especially if we eke out 2-4 or more wins this year.
  16. In last resort, I wonder if the coverage will start online, then? ESPN3 or .com or whatever they are calling it. I have caught a few games there, and it usually is just fine. I don't even mind the smaller screen (I Use a Kindle) for mobile devices. I can sit in bed as my wife snoozes and watch the last of the west coast games, if any are good.
  17. As the CFP goes forward, I suspect the B1G may learn from the SEC. Or other conferences. As soon as it becomes clearer what the committee is looking for, what it prioritizes, and in what order, every conference will schedule similarly, I think. If that means a late-season cupcake, we will probably have them too. I see the value of having a 'breather' week in addition to the normal byes, but if you lose it because you didn't take them seriously, you are hosed. In reality, the old Big 12 North provided a number of teams that might as well have been in that cupcake class. That we lost to them, ever, is still boggling. In any event, this will get sorted eventually.
  18. In past games, I recall them starting the game on ESPNEWS or ESPNU or other options if the previous game runs late. Will this be different? Because of the ABC cross-cast or some other reason? Thanks for any answers anyone may have.
  19. Yep, this is how far we have really fallen. Someone bothered to post about Purdue of all teams. Did we even acknowledge Iowa State when we were in the Big 12. Well, other than when they kicked out butts? Honestly, though, I hope the team is taking this game seriously. I am certain Purdue will be ready. A win against us would be their biggest in a long time, I imagine. We can't overlook anyone. And, as others have said, even in a blowout, I hope to see the next crop of Huskers get some meaningful play time in the second half.
  20. When we pillage, can we take the descendants of our women? The original women might be unseemly or even deceased by now. I don't consider that much of a prize. If we win, let's take the cute ones. It will be a pleasure to parade them past that toothless horde in the wastelands of Iowa during our triumphant return.
  21. Strongly disagree with one part of your thoughts: There is a huge chasm between angry and intimidating. We can be intimidating but not angry. I, too, was there in the 90's and we were loud. And intimidating. Not angry, so much though. For that, we usually had to drive to Boulder, and the angry parts of their fanbase made it a nasty experience for the visiting fans more-so than the visiting teams. I'd like to do the intimidating part without the angry part, is what I'm saying. And no reason we can't.
  22. Isn't that the ESPN song? Sorta. I forgot about that part. It is a hit song by Fall Out Boy that ESPN just announced last week would be their promo song for this first CFB season playoff. After that they will move on to another one, I imagine. But none of that was in my mind. I just like the song, in terms of its grandeur and statement in modern terms. It shouldn't alienate anyone who is currently okay with Sirius, either. Of course, it's possible the song is not part of the issue, if there is any issue at all. It's always hard to leave behind tradition, any tradition, once it is embedded. Someday soon, though, Sirius will sound like playing Sinatra to the athletes. If it doesn't already. Along those lines, I think of the tradition of Sweet Caroline at--Penn State? Neil Diamond, isn't that one? I don't know the history, but that is one lame, old fogey song that I cannot imagine actually firing up anyone, or the song's relevance to a CFB game.
  23. Given the chance to nominate a current song that fits the grandeur and image, I would nominate this one:
  24. The part of this that most interests me is next year's game at Miami. They have no home crowd advantage to speak of, except when the bandwagon is full. It might be by then, if they roll FSU and run the table.
