  1. I'm in the same boat. I don't think Doc is the guy, long-term. His idea of offense is dreadful, and it's going to be hard to get recruits to commit to a program whose main goal each possession is to kill the shot clock. Doc is a great guy, and it'll be sad to see him go, but I don't see him here long-term, not without some major changes in his philosophy. I've been singing this song for almost ALL of Doc's 6 years........................fans will be FAR more patient building a program if they are being simultaneously entertained.............thus a longer leash for the Doc if his losses are 95-90 (a la Billy Tubbs at multiple schools) rather than a coma inducing 45-40. But the biggest issue is getting high caliber players to come where they HAVE FUN playing (i.e....up and down).
  2. 2004 disagrees with this premise. I still stand by the general premise..............an occassional abberation does not invalidate the premise No, but neither does a trend indicate what will happen. The premise is what the premise is. Reality is something entirely different. There is no way a plurality will elect Mitt Romney, and he's the most-electable candidate the Republicans have. Romney will be shredded by Obama in debates. He has a worse record on jobs, he is extremely vulnerable - via his own words - on healthcare, and he's easily painted as a wealth elite out of touch with mainstream America. Yes he will be painted that way............remains to be seen whether the public buys it. I totally disagree on the debates. Romney is not great on his feet, but BO will not have his electronic crutch (Mr. Teleprompter). As I said to Carlfense. I predict BO cannot defend his record and I don't see the public fallilng for his disingenousness again. But, we will see and the next 10 months will be fun to debate.
  3. OK I stopped reading this thread right about....there. why, because you think our special teams are good? - Is it because we're ranked 10th in the B1G in opponents punt returns, or 11th in kickoff returns (including 10 of 30+, 5 of 40+)? Or because nationally we finished ranked 104th in both opponents punt returns, and kickoff returns. You're right, special teams were awesome this year. Hey, at least we don't have Santino Pacino (sp?) doing a statue imitation at the request of Billy C...................
  4. Interesting take. I think the steady drop in unemployment and large increases in private-sector jobs tell a different story. Would your opinion change if you knew that we've had 22 straight months of job gains and that over 3.2 million new private-sector jobs have been created over the first 3 years of Pres. Obama's first term? (Particularly interesting when compared to a few of his notable predecessors.) It will be even more difficult for any GOP candidate to defend their economic record. Particularly true with Romney. Classic case of two views of the stats reading entirely differing results. The majority of jobs have been Federal/gov't/state increases.........i.e. exploding the public union sector..........i.e. Obama supporters......... As for Romney, again I disagree. Chosing a proven capitalist with a known record (even as mainstream media demagouge it), I suspect in November most folks will opt for concrete business experience and relegate a community organizer to a one-termer. It will be good sport to argue this over the next 10 months, but go ahead and bookmark me today..............I predict B.O. will be out and it may not even be close. If I'm wrong, I'm sure I will hear about it and will own up to it. But can't see it happening (again, unless there is some major "October Surprise" unleashed as has been the pattern of the media/dem collaboration) in order to "save" the world from the evil wascally wepuplicans...............

  6. At which point he'll have a candidacy roughly equivalent to the maiden voyage of the Titanic. Probably. If the economic recovery stumbles his chances improve. Recovery.........?? What would you prefer to call it? I don't really have an adjective, but if it's sluggish and muddled I certainly wouldn't call it a recovery. And, for what it's worth on this thread, unless there is some really big September surprise, I don't think it matters who the Pub is because it's always about the incumbents record and this year will be no different. It will be very difficult for B.O. to defend his economic record.

  8. Seeing Strickland introduced at the “Bob” last night birthed a question. Is Eric Strickland the best overall ATHLETE in Nebraska athletic history? I remember seeing him as a high school freshman and physically, he already looked like a college senior. He was an All-State receiver as a high school sophomore and I have no doubt he could have been a professional receiver or safety. He was the first Nebraskan ever to be All-Nebraska in 3 sports at Bellevue West. He had a great career in the NBA and also played a couple years in minor league baseball. If I recall correctly, he even toyed with the idea of playing a final year for the football team after his eligibility was exhausted in basketball, but gave it up because of potential jeopardy to his professional basketball career. If not Strickland, who would you select in place of him ??
  9. Great call..............I was dodging sullied monkeys all the way out of the Devaney...................!!
  10. I will be in attendance furtively looking for distressed monkeys................... ..
  11. So Carl................you believe the Prez is rightously and zealously doing his absolute best with this decision and it has NOTHING to do with shoring up the base..............?
  12. In a nutshell...........it's about sacrificing 20,000 jobs to save ONE.................
  13. He certainly personified the state with a style we still attempt to resurrect. And, I would agree with those who say he maybe was our most important hire ever. But, to remind those who think our history only begins with the Bobfather….. Remember in 1922 and 1923 we gave the infamous four horsemen of Notre Dame 2 of their only ( I believe) four losses total…………. So, we have a bit of history before him.
  14. Hilarious..............just when has the portly Charlie ever "whipped any ass"..........??
  15. Being a long time play-off proponent....................the fact that Bohl agrees with me makes me think he is pretty smart...............
  16. I had just heard Wednesday................but could be wrong................(it's happened before......!)
  17. I don't think it is anything concrete.................just a rumor based off a Rose tweat that Husker fans would be excited today...........if I recall correctly..............
  18. Or the mid-80s New England Patriots. I thought it was The SF49ers in the mid 80's Rathman, Craig, Jamie Williams Or the Chiefs 10 years ago..........
  19. With Roy, Niles, and Gomes...................if they draft intelligently this spring...................they could qualify as a Husker satellite franchise....................like Detroit...........
  20. Under-rated as a Husker...............as a draftee.................and early in the season............ But look out now.................I see him as a 1000 yard rusher in that offense as a feature back.............
  21. Ranked # 1 AND the top 4 all-arounders...............?? Still after just one meet, but bodes well for the season..................Congrats.............
  22. Yeah, the ol' Pac 12 is going to be an entertaining conference title chase in the future.............
  23. I’m a little perplexed by the sheer degree of vitriol displayed by the anti-Frank crowd. I’m like a lot of folks who have invested (probably) too much money, energy, passion and time in Husker athletics over the years and feel that contribution has earned me the right to be fairly vocal in my opinion. So all of us should feel entitled to critique, complain and bitch about most any facet of the program. And we do. But the mystifying corollary is why so much of it is personal. To wit: I thought Cosgrove was completely out-schemed but abhor the treatment his family ostensibly received. I thought Callahan was unreasonably loyal to KG and neglected the entire defense. He was also an untenable “fit’ for Nebraska and failed to grasp or even attempt to understand the culture. In fact, I was in Devaney at the basketball game where he was introduced and I swear he had to look at his notes in his pre-programmed stump speech (that could be utilized anywhere) when he got to the part about…………”I am so glad to be here in……(pause)…………..”Nebraska.” And even though he cared not a whit about records, traditions, etc. (and that was infuriating) I don’t wish him ill will today. I hope he succeeds with the Cowboys and moves on to a HC position again if that’s his desire. Craig Bohl couldn’t figure out how to stop a simple cut-back run but he’s won a national championship in Dakota. Good for him. I thought Shawn Watson tried to be ‘too cute” and deviated from what was working in order to demonstrate his cleverness. But, I wish him well in Louisville. I like Doc, but think the program will not advance under his style. The fact that I’d like him replaced doesn’t mean I don’t hope he isn’t successful somewhere else. Are we going to go back and resurrect Bill Jennings to whine about his game-day strategy? My point is that it’s fine for us to vent, but I’m mystified why it’s so personal. Do we really think ANY of these coaches wanted to fail? The sole caveat to my diatribe is Steve Pederson. For someone who was a native Husker and had served as recruiting coordinator, it is inexplicable how his unchecked ego sent him overboard. Braggadociosly asserting that they would build a statue to HIM outside Memorial Stadium was enough to summon the bile that I have been arguing against. And for those who earlier maintained that Frank had run the program into the ground to the point where no one wanted to come here………….I would suggest the real reason it proved more difficult than predicted was SP’s egomaniacal one man, month-long odyssey was more in line with what Urban Meyer said when asked about his interest in the job…….. (Paraphrasing)…”Why would I go work for someone who just FIRED a 9-3 coach”
