  1. Did you ever see him play? 158lbs at fullback and always left it all out on the field. We seem to have had quite a few great running backs, when he was coaching the r/b's position. He is a Husker through and through. You must be one of those "what have you done for me lately" guys. GBR!!! His playing days have nothing to do with his coaching at NU. If anything, it's more appalling that since he is one of us that he allowed the program to get lazy. I never understood why people don't hold that against him. Interesting that you include yourself in the "one of us" cadre when I'm guessing your particular contributions to Husker football don't quite measure up to Franks.....................just a guess though......... And regardless of what you think of his coaching abilities, thirty some odd years of service to the program as player, coordinator, and head coach probably deserve a modicum of respect from every Husker fan for longevity alone. (unless you think Pederson was "justified" in his adolescent behavior pulling all references to Frank from the football offices as if they never existed) I'd bet that when they do honor Solich, Memorial stadium will respond with a thunderous and sustained ovation of respect.
  2. The wWsconsin players must be UNBELIEVABLE athletes to be able to go over the back for all those offensive rebounds and NEVER foul.................... And a twenty four to 2 discrepancy in foul shot attempts......................wow, they must be superhuman......................
  3. Yeah losing TZ as tough, seemed as if he was leaning towards NU then he visited ND late and they wooed him with their boxing gym. I recall him commenting on how telling Frank he wasn't coming after all was one of the most difficult things he ever had to do..................seemed like he really had a solid connection with FS.............. Ironically, his family really pushed the Domers, and maybe the Westerkamp decision is finally payback.............
  4. I don't think we'll have to worry about that in men's basketball any time soon. You guys will have your time in the sun, it won't be too long. From what you guys have said about your facilities and what not as well as no having joined a damn good basketball conference (not to say the Big XII was bad or anything, I just think we're better) I'd say its just a matter of time...and maybe a coaching change. You are aware that the Nebraska Basketball program right now is pretty close to what K state football was in the 80s right? NU is one of a very small handful of schools in a major conference to never with a NCAA game. I think it is even LESS than a handful.............................Isn't it just us and Northwestern.............??
  5. I suspect you have the respect and gratitude of the MAJORITY on this board and throughout the country! Most of us have true appreciation for your efforts. I hope you don’t let the generalizations of a few keep you from recognizing that fact. Well Done!
  6. About 20 years ago, I actually asked T.O. if he would ever consider put a script " Huskers " on the helmet............. You'd of thought I insulted his wife..............and though his tone was cool...........he made it clear that line of questioning was OVER..............
  7. While I agree with Cowherd on some things because he occasionally has the originality of creative thought compared to most of his party line brethren....................on this he is completely full of Bevo excrement. The idea that you can transfer the whining quotient from a # 3 team to a # 65 team and not lose the argument is specious and ludicrous.
  8. Billy C officially listed today as the offensive coordinator of the cowboys.......................(but Garrett will call the plays).............??
  9. Scorecard being boarded, fed, exercised and part of the family at our house.......... Dog - Vizula Dog - German Shorthair Dog - Mutt Cat - Zero =
  10. Since we have one Peat in the fold, and his cousin Moss as a listed commit, could it be karma that the second Peat is destined to be N since, according to wikipedia……….one of the uses of peat moss (Sphagnopsida) is that “Tribes of northeastern United States and southeastern Canada used moss to fill chinks “……….? Seems the logical extension of that quote would be………in the “D” line…..! Or, is that too much of a stretch………..??
  11. Congrats to Doc and the team. They looked like they were having some fun tonight. But, (and not to take anything away from them)...............we played close to as well as we could and IF PSU hits anywhere close to their normal 3 point percentage (last time I looked at the scoreboard they were 2 for 20), this is a very close game. So I figure if we play our best and the team picked to finish LAST in the conference plays worse than normal, it may be false hope considering the next 3 games coming up. Hope to be wrong, but I expect to be 1-7 a week from Saturday. And, for those who were at the Bob or who watched it on BTN, ...............anyone else puzzled that when we attacked in an early offense we excelled, but then later we pulled back and passively threw it around the perimeter and committed a bunch of turnovers? Surprised that Doc wouldn't stay with what was working..............plus the crowd was into it and the players were having fun with the early attacking offense............
  12. Of course that is the follow up idea.................I was going to start a parallel thread on "wins" later to get the taste out of our mouths. That would be appropriate after signing day imo. I just figured it was good to remember during this recruiting cycle that since you don't always get them all, we have had some notable misses before, and will again...... and yet the sky won't fall. Plus, the accompanying stories are all part of Husker lore..........
  13. A couple years ago, Doc came really close to leading us to the NCAA tourney. It might have been last year also. We were on the bubble down the stretch and just couldn't win the games that we needed to win. In the last couple years, Doc has been pressured a lot to improve on the offensive side of the floor, and if you ask me, our team has lost a lot of defensive intensity as a result. I have trouble believing that even Coach K could take us to the NCAA tourney with the athletes that we are able to recruit to Nebraska in basketball. It's just such a hard place to recruit, and as a result, is a hard place to win. I like Doc, and I would love to see him be the guy to find the right answers and do what it takes to win a lot of basketball games for us. However, I'm not sure how much more time fans will be willing to give Doc. Danny Nee says hello Unfortunately, his onryness caught up with him, and his first really REALLY bad year, became the excuse, not the reason. Nee was about as successful as you could expect a coach here to be. Yes I remember alot of the team wanted to walk out on him. And it was a bad year. But the five before that were great years to be a husker basketball fan. Hell I'll go really old school on you guys. Joe Cip. and Moe Iba did pretty good jobs as well. Moe led thenm to a NCAA berth. That was in the 80's. Of course he committed the ultimate in NCAA infractions....................by taping newspapers on Mable Hall to hide his infamous illegal practices.........
  14. If true, what a travesty..................Sanders was undoubtedly the most exciting runner I have ever seen............. In fact even though Okie lite had Thurman Thomas ahead of him, I still marveled at Pat Jones keeping Barry off the field for so long.......
  15. While many marinate in the recruiting pot by parsing every adolescent tweet for deeper denotation, it might be interesting to recall past recruiting efforts that generated a lot of angst before subsequently leading to Husker disappointments. Especially if there is a decent narrative accompanying the tale…….. Here are two I can immediately summon………(btw, if these are apocryphal, someone please correct me………….but this is how I recall being told it went down……) Emmett Smith: Supposedly, he had assured us he was N, but at the infamous hat ceremony, he replaced the Red by doffing the Florida bonnet, claiming that he and his family just had to stay “close”. Donavan McNabb: I had long heard that he was excited to play option QB for T.O., but was equally serious about doubling up in basketball. Supposedly, T.O. signed off on the deal, but Danny Nee WOULDN’T………?? It strains credulity to think Nee wouldn’t have taken him (if he had to share), but that is the story I’ve always been told. Again, if anyone can debunk this………….please do. (I’d probably feel better if it weren’t true) It would be interesting to hear what other posters can recall about last minute decisions………….
  16. I realize that was tongue in cheek....but the 2 things I'm questioning/have issue w/ happened before I said a word to them. 4 cars and coming onto private property for a parking issue. Maybe they did think I was drunk for partly parking on a curb, but even if I was drunk they can't do anything on privite property. Just because I have a lot of free time...I may call the police one night if I think of it and tell them a scenerio like this and see what they say to me. But then before getting off the phone I'll say "oh...they just left". That way I don't waste their time. In Nebraska, if the private property is a "place held open to the public" you can and will be charged with DUI. Places like apartment parking lots, store parking lots, drive throughs, etc. are private property but you can still be convicted of DUI. See......................Caputo...................
  17. Didn't he also carry an extra title with him at the Jets like asst. Offensive Coordinator or something in that vein ?? Maybe it's just more moola.............
  18. Which came first...............the puncture or the stabbing...............???
  19. I don't know if that's decent as on average NFL game's this season drew this many people, for a "championship" game that's pretty bad. College football bowl ratings have dropped again and it seems the sport is doing quite a job at making itself not very relevant. Moving bowl games to ESPN didn't help and the ratings on ESPN are lower then last years ESPN average. There just is not much excitement in post season. There is always controversy and much of the country tunes out mostly irrelevant games and a half-assed finale. Thus...........the new interest by the commissioners in "tweaking" the system..................... Years of bitching by the fans got no one's attention..................................hemorrhaging money with a new contract coming up soon does...............
  20. They have had an unbelievable stretch of losing backs.....................who's left...........??
  21. payback for the lineman from Elkhorn a couple years back and the safety who turned boxer..............
  22. Probably going to happen, but JBD continues to have foot issues............. The best bet is for the assistants to kidnap Doc with 2 minutes left and lock him in the privy............... I'm hoping Doc gets called for a technical foul with a couple minutes left, and gets tossed out of the game. Getting everyone fired up before he is escorted to the lockerroom. Seriously though, I feel bad for Doc. You just can't lay all this crap that's happened on his doorstep. // I DON'T mean for this to turn into a bashing Doc thread. I agree you can't lay it ALL at his feet, (injuries for sure), but certainly he has to accept some of the blame. Too many instances in late game situations over the years where we either can't even in-bound the ball or fail to get a shot off or something weird to occur to all be purely coincidental. And, as a number have continually stated.................it's tough because everyone LIKES Doc..................that makes it tough to criticize............ Yeah, that's what makes it tough for me. I like Doc. I think for the most part he's a good coach. But I just can't find any evidence to back it up. He does a number of things I like.........i.e....his practices are open for the most part (and I've gone a watched a few); he is reportedly a tireless recruiter; gets along well with the other coaches in all sports; very open and complimentary to the fans; and an interesting interview (if you can overlook the fractured syntax). He has proven on occasion he can coach. A few years ago with the smallest team in Div 1, he probably did as fine a job as anyone could have (including the "name coaches").....................but the bottom line is he is simply not getting it done on a consistent basis...........and his offensive style makes it difficult for a crowd to stay in it so we don't have much of home court advantage either ...................... Guess we'll see how this plays out, but it looks to be another long year...............................and at some point, T.O. will have to stop the bleeding because there is too much invested in facilities to have an excuse anymore.
