  1. We had 163 yards rushing and 85 yards passing. Our leading rusher averaged 6.1 yards per carry. What would the number of rushing yards be that would have made it not disappointing? The coaches are pretty dumb if they can't see what Haarberg isn't capable of doing at this point. There's plenty of opportunity for the 1's on offense to improve in the passing game against the 1's on defense in practice. I think the play call on the first play by the coaches is way less about "learning how to pass" and more about being a little too worried about not being able to line up and run the ball on a B1G opponent. We wanted the element of surprise and there's nothing wrong with that, but I think we've seen enough of Haarberg in those situations to know it's maybe not worth the risk. I think this is the second time we've done this on the first play (not that the first time was a pick, but an incompletion). So to the point of seeing what the team can and can't do...let's maybe just not do that anymore.
  2. Yeah. Now I wouldn't really want either guy being the QB that's trying to throw on that 2nd & goal from the 6 at the end of the first half against Minnesota where Sims throws the INT. But that game was pretty win-able regardless if Grant doesn't fumble in the 4th quarter. We're a fumble and a false start (in the same game) away from being a 5-2 team right now because of how good our defense is. Different train of thought: Chinander consistently flew under the radar as a huge problem in Frost's program because so many people expected Frost, the offensive expert, to win games on offense. Our program was so overdue on getting a good defensive coordinator that it wasn't even funny.
  3. This is the thing to start talking about and focusing on. Forget lamenting about the offense. I just can't believe how much disruption the line is causing to move the other team's OL out of position. And I think Butler is a very underrated player, it's like he's around the QB on most of the sacks.
  4. Coleman is a good player. Get a QB in here who can throw the ball to him in a catchable vicinity (which we don't even really have right now) and he'll be tearing it up.
  5. To the point you were making though, the play Coleman made underscores it; you get that long, burner receiver that beats a guy one on one and you throw the ball to him for a big play. The kid has a lot of potential and I'm really glad he chose to play for us and not go somewhere else. We just need a QB that can scan the field and get the ball to guys like him, Fidone, and Kemp (who is of course now hurt).
  6. Reading comprehension. I said "they're not just good with X's & O's." That means I believe they're good at X's & O's.
  7. I think Rhule and the coaches he's brought with him seem like they really know what they're doing. They're not just good with X's & O's, they seem to have figured out how to motivate this team in just one offseason. We aren't out there playing scared like we have for so many years. We've rotated so many guys in on defense that it's crazy. I love how fast & fiery we are on that side of the ball. Feels so good to have a winning record after the 7th game. That first play by Haarberg...big yikes. I feel like he threw that pick the way he did because of how he leans out of his throws to side arm it. Fidone is slanting to his left and he leans out of it and backwards to his right and the ball is terribly short. Really bad stuff. But, the TD pass to Coleman was a great play and there were still a couple bright spots here and there on offense.
  8. I'm not sure about this, I want to believe it's true but I'm not sure. Israel has officially declared war. Things I'm reading suggest that Israel is fully prepared for a large scale war - including a ground war - not just bombing stuff. They have the military firepower and technology to turn the Gaza Strip into a parking lot in a few months' time, and they will actually do it this time if they think they need to. The question is how the rest of the Arab nations react if & when this happens. If the full scale war occurs, I don't think Israel will occupy Gaza. I think they'll wait for things to die down and then they'll help put the Palestinian Authority back in charge, because they actually engaged in accords with the Israelis. Hamas hated this about the Palestinian Authority and saw them as being in cahoots with Israel.
  9. The dilemma for our foreign policy is that if we don't have aircraft carriers on ready and flex at least a bit, Iran & Lebanon might be emboldened to go "alright it's time to finally take Israel out, the U.S. is actually going to sit this one out." But I want absolutely no involvement in this thing. None. This is a powder keg ready to explode.
  10. I think we win this one by 10 points if we're not negative in the turnover margin and we don't false start. We've just got to get those two things nailed down.
  11. I'm not defending Hamas. I wish they could be obliterated yesterday. But just some food for thought. People in third world countries are on a different plane of existence than we Americans are. Think about it in terms of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs: These folks aren't even solid on the first layer, "physiological." A lot of them probably feel like they have nothing to live for. Then you throw in the Jihad stuff and it starts making a lot of sense. Again, just a discussion, not defending it. Terror acts are horrible and should be snuffed out. Palestinians were probably way better off pre-2007 before Hamas took charge. The word is that Hamas takes aid packages delivered from foreign sources and puts it into building up resources for attacks like this. Just think how that worsens the situation for their own people, terrible.

It's a metaphor; our offense is like prison grade gruel.

Really enjoyed the scene of MJ Sherman yelling f-bomb's on top of Celine Dion. 10/10, would watch again.
  14. It's funny listening to Dave talk condescendingly of Kirk's guitar skills. Thing is, they were all drunks. But yeah he should have toned it down.
  15. Guy is so f****** awesome. Let's change the name of this thread to "Metallica Shouldn't Have Kicked Dave Out" and just go from there.
  16. Yes. They are a Sunni Islamist group. Some Sunni's are totes into practicing Jihad (and hopefully we don't have to have a long discussion on what that is and how some Muslims view that as just literally a "struggle" and all of that s***), and Hamas is in that camp. They're totally into the whole "holy wars" thing. This is the problem.
  17. It's hard to convey tone on the board, so please imagine me saying this in a nice, calm voice while we both sip our beers. You're kind of going on a tangent here. You're changing the subject to be "how exactly does Hamas leadership practice Islam?" I'm not going to attempt to discuss that because it's missing the point. Go google "does Hamas identify with Islam" if you think what I'm saying is inaccurate. I don't believe it's even up for debate that Hamas is Islamic.
  18. Then you have a misunderstanding. Hamas is verifiably deeply Islamic. This is where they differ from the Palestinian Authority and the PLO. When they displaced those aforementioned entities in 2007, they became in complete control of Palestine and the mentality of Palestine's leadership changed. And their leadership and objectives are deeply religious. This is one of the big problems at play. They also partner with Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a purely terrorist group, whose sole aim is basically the annihilation of Israel. There's little doubt that PIJ is playing a role in this thing as well.
  19. Welp, I was definitely wrong on this. Really thought he'd bring Sims back as the starter for this one.
  20. I make barely one post a year in this sub-forum. Hamas' goal seems to have been to embolden all of Palestine to believe that this was a sign from allah that it was time to go into an all-out war against Israel to completely eradicate the state of Israel. They've been saving up their resources for this moment. Israel's intelligence seems to have a good hold on exactly where Hamas' main strongholds are in the Gaza Strip. Israel is trying to convince Palestinians to gtfo of there immediately because they're going to take out these Hamas strong points. It seems that it's going to happen no matter what if the Israeli hostages aren't completely released. Hamas uses their own people as human shields like cowards. They know the cost is going to be high, and Israel knows that traps will be laid for them when ground forces blast into Gaza. I feel for innocent Palestinians - some of whom are secular and have no real interest in the religiously zealous alignments of Hamas. It's terrible to think about even more Palestinian civilians dying in this thing. But it's going to happen and will be Hamas' fault entirely at this juncture once it does.
