  1. Arguing about the Solich/Callahan eras...classic.
  2. I don't know. I think we have the WR talent and finally a QB with the strong arm to execute that play well. Had to try something to open up running lanes for Ameer. The diamond formation bit is getting harped on pretty hard. I think the bottom line is that our line just had a pretty terrible night. Makes it hard to do anything under those circumstances.
  3. Again, this is a post that would have had applicable context about a year ago. Bo has clearly changed those ways. Past tense.
  4. Good post, +1. Tommy threw the ball into the shins of his receivers several times Saturday. The turf was soaking wet and Ameer couldn't get good cut backs (which is the forte of his running style). The only real disagreement I had Saturday night was not trying to punch it into the end zone on our first drive. Other than that, I think Beck did all he could have done (but I do agree about being confused about the lack of the diamond).
  5. Meh. I'm definitely not saying that. When you play an outstanding rush defense, you have to be able to throw. I think Armstrong can get there. He's really only played one season of football. I think his ceiling is very high, and he has six more games to get there. It can happen, and if it does, we win the conference.
  6. I'm relatively surprised to hear you say this.
  7. I have a feeling I'll get flamed for this, but oh well. I think you can fairly easily also hypothesize about what we'd have if we had a non-mobile throwing-capable pocket passer. Our offense might actually be better off in the Big Ten this season given the fact that Ameer is such a dynamic runner/receiver. And not even an NFL caliber pocket passer. Our receivers (as a unit) are just that good. But, that's not the reality. The reality is that Armstrong is our quarterback, and he's going to have to improve his lateral throwing game if we're going to win a conference title this season. He's good enough at throwing down field. But throwing to the sidelines/out-routes, he's really struggling there.
  8. All right, here's mine. Tommy just does not have a very consistent ability to throw out-routes. Throwing the ball to the sidelines just isn't quite there for him. He did it a couple times last night well enough, but by and large, not nearly enough. This makes opening up running lanes for Ameer difficult. Yes, our O-line was out-muscled and out-played. But i don't think I'd fire up any "FireTimBeck" hashtags just yet. He's working with a QB that has trouble throwing to the edges. That makes drawing up a game plan difficult. I don't think that's being a Tim Beck apologist, that's just looking at reality. On the bright side, Tommy seems to have the capacity to improve in this area. There's no way he's close to peaking yet in his throwing ability. He also seems to try to lead his throw even when his receiver is basically stationary. That happened on that last drive when he threw to Ameer in the flat. Yes, he followed that up with an amazing throw to the sideline. But it sucks to think what Ameer might have done with that ball, being ten yards wide open. Tommy's gotta stop doing that.
  9. I think you need to take a break for a while, dawg. If you can't see how much credit is due to Bo for improving our defense and special teams when this season is compared to last, I really don't think we're watching the same team. Our defense only allowed 10 points in the second half. Our special teams executed a f****** amazing punt return. That's team effort, that's not luck. Just come on. *Edit - and let's not forget that both Davie and Bell go out from injury during this one. Two key starters, one on each side of the ball. We still found a way. That's 'fight,' not 'luck.'
  10. +1 to the Count. Taco John himself can't argue with this omen.
  11. This, and turnover margin/false starts. If we're even or better in the turnover margin and pound Ameer for four quarters, we'll get this one.
  12. Tommy's vocal leadership is possibly the most underrated element to this team's success this season. It was amazing to me how confidently he spoke about leading "his" offense last season, just a few games into the Martinez injury period. I don't care what anyone says about "leading non-verbally by example," this is a huge advantage IMO that past team's of Bo under Martinez didn't have. Love the guy for that. He is a winner that knew how to win when he was in high school. Nothing has changed for him. He's the freaking man.
  13. Our receivers blocked well in this one, too. Bo in the presser also just said, "I don't know if the first guy brought him down all night." Love it.
  14. If those are the only three choices, I'm going with execution and attitude.
  15. Bo will, on occasion, brag on his team and go beyond the "We did some good things, we did some bad things" line he gives roughly five times in every presser he ever does. Did anyone catch the immediate post game interview? Bo: "I thought our offense made them look pretty average tonight." F****** awesome. Love it.
  16. Miyammi, you're a good guy. Glad you had a good time in our city. Johnson's got some speed. It was a good game plan by The U to hit him with the swing passes and let him bolt through from the flats. Your QB definitely has potential, too. Just wasn't enough for the grind of the Big Red Machine when our line is giving max effort for Ameer.
  17. And more specifically, it kind of epitomized how our fan base feels about their team - that they talk s***, no matter the circumstance. What an atmosphere and win for this team and the Bo era.
  18. It was an amazing quote. So perfectly timed, too. Ameer had officially put his foot on their throat at that point, it was so great hearing him say that.
  19. F*** yes. I repeat - F**** yes. We ran the motherf****** ball. Gregory f***** s*** up. Where's my beer. Ok.
