  1. We could still possibly end up being ranked inside the top 10 at the end of the regular season, which would put us squarely into contention for an at-large BCS bid. The B1G title would be the real prize, but going 10-2 in the regular season (which is still counting the proverbial chickens before they're hatched) would be a pretty great accomplishment considering how rough our schedule really is this season. Winning these next two would feel amazing, even if Michigan State doesn't lose out to Northwestern. And they won't.
  2. I don't understand why this is so difficult. Football and the tragedy are two separate issues with regards to the 60 minutes of competition tomorrow. We're concerned for our fans' safety, in large part, due to the RIOTING that happened two days ago. That absolutely stands to reason. It's just totally ridiculous for anyone to say that a Husker fan being concerned for their own safety is making Saturday about "them" and not about the victims. They're two entirely separate issues - why is that so hard to understand?
  3. On offense, we have GOT to get our speed on the field with good timing. This may be running tunnel screens or end arounds to Turner/Bell on 1st & 2nd downs. Turner has got to be a part of this game. Also, running that hitch to BK or KB on 1st & 2nd wouldn't hurt, either. I think we need a slightly healthier mix in the first half to get us closer to success on offense. The option just isn't cutting it, it would seem. We might as well run the power toss to one of the Fab Three if we're looking to exploit the edges. Throw in the steady dose of power-run Rex with a little more rotating him in/out and the occasional look down field by Taylor, and I think we can actually score a lot of points in this game.
  4. I was just one year out of mine I have an aunt that's from Happy Valley...so this type of stuff has gone round and round in circles with her and my side of the family from Lincoln for my whole life.
  5. Our players and coaches are not in a difficult position. They're playing a game that's been on the schedule for quite some time. Business as usual for the team itself. Now for our traveling fans...that's probably a different story.
  6. Go back and look at Choi vs. Washington. He had an incredible game. Pulling ability and speed to progress and chip linebackers is very evident, not just his brute strength. He's very talented.
  7. Agreed here - I'm not sure why it's shocking, either. But the one difference though is that Taylor's completion percentage is actually better than the glory QB's. So it's almost not even an accurate comparison. Whether Bo said it or not, it's just way too simplistic. It doesn't really translate into the blatantly obvious aspects of 60 minutes of football being played on the field. What does it mean? Does it mean that you hope you start every offensive drive on your opponent's 20 and make those opportunities count? That's literally how ridiculous that sounds. Getting the ball into the red zone is equally as important as red zone play itself. To say otherwise is just denial of the obvious.
  8. This is so completely contradictory^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ How else can passing success be measured, other than stats? You tried to explain it away by claiming that Taylor hits the wrong receivers, but seriously...come on!! He threw for 75% on Saturday. That's right, 75%! That's outstanding, by anyone's measure of success in CFB.
  9. What part of completion percentage don't people understand? It literally is the only thing that matters. It doesn't matter how it gets there...it matters how often it gets there.
  10. this board, this free to everyone board, it is not our job. it is not rivals though we would like to treat it like that. our job is to perform, but hey, even if we don't make an agreeable point, we still get a load of shoot. all these poster have to post is for pride. most will never see the next level, start a blog, or get published. some will leave, some will become mods. and occasionally they will recount the glory days when their post got more than four '+1's' because they had a moment of inspiration on the can and how amazing it was just to get recognized. but you sit there behind your glass box and be critical of every little thought they post. who are you to judge someones life or how they post? how would you feel if there was one dude criticizing your posts, or judging your grammar? no poster likes to be put under the microscope and be picked and prodded on everything they do or don't post. i want you to think about this, huskerboard members, we have been victims of our own need for agreeable posts. i would hate to see that happen again. sd'sker...this was a masterpiece of a reply. Kudos to this beautifully crafted work of sarcastic ownage.
  11. This...in part. He hasn't mastered the option. When we call the option, 90% of the time he pitches, and pitches early at that. He understands the zone read quite a bit more it seems because he ran it last year as well. We have still had a certain level of success with the option...but it hasn't opened up the big runs. If he could master the option a bit more, it could open up breakaway runs. I think the version of the zone read sweep play that Watson called (waaaaaaaaaaaay too much and became extremely predictable) last season is in the distant past. Beck just isn't going to call that version of the zone read much, if at all. On a different aspect of Taylor's game...his accuracy was just awesome on Saturday. It's great to see him growing game by game in his passing ability. He is developing at a very good rate at this point, in my opinion.
  12. You nailed it. He has a bizarre affinity for the "It's never good enough!" syndrome. We beat a top 10 team with a top 5 offense. Not good enough. facepalm.jpeg
  13. Actually, Taylor's completion percentage is in the mid 50's. At around the middle mark of the season, I saw some stats where he actually has a higher career completion rate than Frazier, Frost, and Crouch. Maybe you were being sarcastic about the 50% thing, not sure. Like it or not, we're recruiting QB's for their legs first, arm second. You can see that in Carnes and verbal commit Tommy Armstrong.
  14. Totally agree. But on the other side of the coin, here's a petition from you: Don't lump all of the "new posters" together. We from the other board know who the diseases are, but have been asked by your mods to not bring any of that up here, and I'm respecting that. I had an intelligent dialogue with Badgerfan, as you can clearly see above. I will be equally pissed to be lumped in with certain other new posters...not to name names...*cough*
  15. This^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ If ever there were a stat to make a PSU fan hang their head in shame...this would be it. No wait - the score in their game against Illinois is even more pathetic. I predict a record number of Joe Pa depends soilings in the first half alone.
  16. This makes more sense. I can see that perspective. For myself personally, I guess what I meant by the "having football not be about football is just mind boggling" comment is that the result on the field is practically the only thing that matters. Even when being at the games, for me personally even just the atmosphere of being inside the stadium with 82,000 other fellow Husker fans and the environment is practically peripheral to the actual result at the end of the game. It might sound ridiculous...but it's just the result of having grown up in the 90's and having the "tradition" be mainly about winning itself. But your comment sheds light on the atmosphere in Madison - and it's understandable. You're good people, Badgerfan. Sorry for the semi-hijacking of the thread. I do enjoy being in the Big 10 and getting to play other great teams.
  17. I remember as a student, the 2003 loss on senior day to K-State was pretty devastating. The loss to them in the "twist Eric Crouch's Head all the way around" game was pretty painful, too. I sort of have a thing for (against) K-State.
  18. You'll probably try to scold me and call this out as "trash talk," but seriously...just another example of the vast chasm of differences between a program that has won multiple national championships (at least in the fairly recent era) and one that hasn't. Anyone can find any excuse to party. Any time. Anywhere. Having football not be about football is just mind boggling.
  19. Agreed. I know that it's hard to gauge where a team is now by what they did earlier in the season...but their 10-14 win over Temple and the 10-7 win over Illinois is just pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. They couldn't even buy a quarterback at this point. Their team over all vs. our overall team speed = bad news for the Nittany Lions.
  20. We'd play the Chocolate Unicorn Elves in the Jujubes Fruity Candy Ass Bowl in Never Never Land. Speaking of which...this looks like a good segue point for this. It's from 2007, but it's a timeless classic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipViuTlXr2o
  21. This^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ It's really, really annoying...but it's the truth. You generally have to have the long, highlight reel type runs. Although Mark Ingram might have been the exception to that, which is promising for Burkhead next year. But as was also mentioned, we have to be in serious contention for something decent title-wise, national or conference, as stupid as it is. Next year could bring that. Would be great if they could just vote for the "best player" without all of the other baggage.
