Eh, yes an no. We definitely need to finish this class off but we've pretty much done all we can. We're down to just a few targets and they've all been visited and most have visited here. As long as they're out, they might as well start building toward the future.

Early enrollees go towards last years number don't They? They can but it doesn't matter at this point. The only number is 85 - or 88 with the three over-signings. Bottom line we are at 84 with the current commits we can take 4 more or 3 if we get Lewis to transfer, if they take more than that someone is leaving the program that we dont know about. Or they pretty much know someone won't qualify Why Lewis do we want to transfer? Lewis is the LB from South Carolina that may transfer in.

That's not the math that is important. There are about 25 five stars each year. I think I saw awhile ago that 50% of five stars get drafted which to me shows that even picking the best of the best is no better than a coin flip but that's for a different discussion. If you figure a career length of five years - which isn't average but the best should have the longest careers, right? - there "should" be around 60 five stars in the NFL all the time which would average about two per team. So it would be somewhat improbably that the best two teams wouldn't have any.

I'm not a big stars guy either but that's a pretty circular argument. The bigger schools recruiting them get them more stars. But the reason the bigger schools are recruiting them is because they are (generally) the better players. Pretty tough to separate out fact from fiction. My biggest issue is I think people get the impression that the rankings are linear. That is, the #1 guy is as much better than the #100 guy as the #100 guy is better than the #200 guy. I think the Top 10-20 each year are your elite athletes and that's about all that are five stars. But then it starts to flatten out pretty quickly. There isn't a lot of difference between, say, the #100 and #400 guy and with such varying exposures to coaching, programs, camps, etc. - not to mean being spread between a dozen or so different positions they can play on the field - it's impossible to say for sure who is better than who. And then the same is true for the #500 guy to the #1000 guy. Taking it one step farther, probably the top five classes each year are pretty loaded with talent. But to say that the #10 class is significantly better than the #20 class is pretty tough. Or that the #20 class is significantly better than the #50 class. They do a good job overall but there is so much room for variance that looking at any individual comparison is tough.

The met with Riley and are now going to talk things over. No timetable.

Yeah, I kind of felt the same way. Kind of thought with all the social media flying around that we'd get another "work secured" tweet if everything was good. They spent 4 hours in-home with Barry. It's 11 there... if the coaches showed up at 8, they'd still have an hour of work left to do. Hold on to your seats boys, it's gunna be okay. They were going to his school instead so I was expecting a shorter visit.

Yeah, I was talking scholarship guys but he can contribute. Don't think he saw the field nearly as much this year.

Freedom is at DE. I like that move as well. So does his HS coach. He wanted a shot a TE so that's where he started but I think DE is a better fit. That leaves Sutton (possibly), Cotton and Carter on the roster right now. That's pretty thin. Snyder would be another if he signs. Three is not "deep" for our new system. If we only used one TE ever, three would be workable. But running a lot of two TE sets like this staff has done in the past, three wouldn't work.

So ...... no news is good news???

Yeah, that's the odd thing. I'm 99% certain it can't be that big unless there are others who have already left. We have a few RS Jr's graduating don't we? How does that work though? Is that the same as taking their scholarship away? AKA booting them off the team Sutton is the only one who hasn't played. He'd be a candidate but we are also pretty short at TE with a new staff that likes TE so I'm not sure what he'll do. If they graduate, they are often encouraged to move on. Not sure how forceful the new staff will be on that.
