they knew, they just can't do much about it if Gerry doesn't want to do the work. They can do A LOT if gerry decided he doesn't want to do the work. there's long benches with several seats for a reason. they could say,"gerry, why don't you go ahead and have a seat on this here bench. or several seats. whichever you'd like." frankly, i hope this senior class is the last that riley allows to get away with as much as they have gotten away with. otherwise, its a recipe for disaster.

God forbid high school kids that are worshipped like local gods enjoy the attention. his is on a different level.

In my opinion. Our schedule in 2018 is brutal, to say the least. in fact, with our current trends, if we do not improve drastically from a talent and technique standpoint, that season can EASILY see 5 or more losses. so i think that's why Riley made the immediate firing and hiring, because if we want to compete at an acceptable level in 2018, we will need a stacked roster NOW. next year won't cut it, because our roster and incoming talent now is what we will use to compete with OSU and michigan. it will simply be too close to 2018 to do good work. as it is, the talent is good, but maybe not at the level to get a good season out of 2018 or even a really great season out of 2017. 2017: 09/02 Arkansas State Lincoln 09/09 Oregon Eugene 09/16 N. We get both wisconsin and iowa at home. OSU is also in lincoln, but i doubt we can win that with riley as motivator. our toughest away games are at penn state and oregon. i would hope/i think a decent staff with nebraska's talent should be able to split those games.

yep. anytime this question of personnel gets brought up, some of the staff really seem to get defensive. i don't understand why. see langsdorf above, and regarding wilbon last year, among others. see cavanaugh last year regarding oline rotation. i think substitution is very important, even if just for a play or 2. but it's the staff's call. However, its fairly simple, imo. if you are needing two years plus to get a scholarship player ready to hold his own or spell a starter in the big ten against purdue, you are doing it wrong. That just shows how little you know about offensive linemen. They don't develop at the same rate. Nick Gates is the exception to the rule not the norm. In the glory years of the nineties most of those guys were only 2 year starters. Wiegert started 3 years, Stai, Rob Z. were 2 year starters. Graham was a 2 year starter. Wilks started 1 year. The formula at NU for linemen was always come in RS, be a back up to a back up as a RS frosh. Be a back up as a Soph and maybe start as a Jr. You want RS Freshman to come in a be great and that was very rarely the case at Nebraska back when Uncle Milt coach the boys. i'm not claiming to know it all. i'm not talking about starters, but about the ability to safely backup and spell the starters against purdue. even if the 90s guys were only 1 year starters, i'm pretty sure the redshirt freshmen could play, especially when you consider that purdue's defensive linemen got into our backfield multiple times untouched. 3 of the OL could not move laterally to scoop or chip at all. are you really telling me that the lateral movement of our 4 star redshirt freshmen is currently worse than what we saw on saturday? again, if so, i may not know the best way to do it, but we are definitely doing it wrong.

Now I fully support MRI, but this, I didn't like. Ameer and VV tweeting out what they did, is almost as damaging as daub's statements. Ameer basically just paints the entire state as being inflammatory towards the players, which is not remotely true. I love ameer, but some of his comments on nebraska admin and fans really make him sound like there's a lot of unresolved animosity for the program and its fans. some of it may be warranted, but still. it's like any opportunity he gets, it's like, "Nebraska is just terrible, man".

i suppose it's really convenient to discuss the acts, not the main issue, isn't it? and when that is played out and defeated, find a way to shift the goal posts... score!!!

funny part of it is those three things are required on BOTH sides, and MRI has alluded to that time and time again.

What actions do we need to reassess? We believe that protesting during the anthem is bad, and that there are certainly better alternatives that inconvenience less of the population. That is that. That part of the statement is interesting. How did their protest inconvenience anyone? Maybe the question should be.....how did their protest inconvenience you personally? How have multiple instances of people killing, attacking, threatening and/or not complying with police officers impacted MRI personally? If you feel like your culture is being destroyed in front of you eyes. The questions should be the same. To the second statement - 3 people out of ~90k kneeling for the national anthem in silent prayer is how you define "culture destruction"? Even if that was 3 out of ~150 people on sidelines, that's a pretty excessive response. I would ask you to maybe re-evaluate if this is reasonable if I could... The first statement has been pretty well covered in this thread but sounds like you refuse to accept the answers. If you think this is over and is going to stop with 3 people at Memorial Stadium, you're kidding yourself. The precedent has been set and if you don't agree with it you're filled with hate and/or a racist. It continuing to spread is not "culture destruction". Protests during the USA National Anthem are nothing new. They've been around for at least 50 years. It is asinine you think what these players did is more disrespectful than all the people talking, texting, not removing their caps, etc. But yet these football players kneeling in silent prayer during the anthem is destroying your culture. It's ok to find an act disrespectful. like you say, we don't have to agree there. It's NOT ok to make it all about the actual act and ignore or focus less on the intent and reasons behind the act. if someone does something disrespectful, like cut you off while driving with malice, that is probably a disrespectful act, at least for most people. but when you find out that person cut you off because there was an emergency vehicle on the way, or he was trying to make an evasive maneuver, at that point, the focus should shift from the cutting off to the actual reason why. continuing to dwell on the cutting off is kinda silly at that point, ESPECIALLY if the driver makes it clear (s)he wasn't trying to cut you off. of course, all bets are off when the driver cuts you off for no reason, and doesn't even care that you were there to begin with.

well said. if you think about how that draft board issue most likely would have seemed good at first, and people only saw its effects thereafter, it should make you wonder how many more laws, policies, and customs exist today with the same repercussions and "unintended" consequences. That's part of what's being protested.

i don't think that people are thinking they are racist. uninformed or misinformed is probably a better word, and that's not intended to be disrespectful. and thats the reason for the protests: to inform people of the issues in those areas and catalyze change. obviously there will be people from both sides that are extreme, just as there are truly racist and bigoted republicans and democrats alike.

Star Spangled Banner is played before the teams take the field at Memorial Stadium. with what daub said and governor ricketts, the only way to prevent damage to recruiting and the image of Nebraska nationwide is for an overwhelming majority of the fans in the stands to take a knee during the anthem.

we actually should keep from derailing this thread, and keep to topic, which is posting things that show that there is systematic racism. others can hep by stating clearly what they think would help show them that there is systematic racism. then the conversation can probably be more productive.

would you like to start with the percentages of black and white lynching victims during the civil rights era? or would you like to go with the percentage of white victims in the tulsa race riots? on the second thing: of course it means something. just because you don't see protests for them doesn't mean they aren't happening. also, being 60 times more likely to be killed doesn't mean you are "60 times more likely to hang around other black people". its one thing to be killed by someone next to you, (which, funny enough, is a requirement for being killed by someone... how ironic, rght?), and it's another to be killed by those sworn to serve and protect you. 84% of white murder victims were killed by other whites. does that also mean something?

In my view kneeling quietly or some other form of silent protest is not at all disrespectful. Far too much is being made of this. You stand to pay your respect to the men, women & their families that that have sacrificed for your rights to have your opinion & openly express them. I have no problem with Rose-Ivey being displeased with current events. He has that right weather I or anyone else agrees with him. My problem is with the way that it is being expressed. My brother in-law lost his only sibling fighting for this country. His brother's only child was born only hours after he had died. Let that really set in. This is only one story. I'm sure many others have their own stories about the loss of a loved one who was fighting for this country & your rights. This is why I stand & find it disrespectful to see others take it so lightly or bend it to fit their personal agenda. what about those military men, women, and family members who fully support what those players did? Why don't he use his position as a college athlete to play football and leave the politics to the politicians? because trying to start a conversation to create solutions for some of the injustices going on in society in spite of the backlash is not politics. that's bravery. and the fact that he knew the backlash was coming from certain quarters doesn't make it hurt any less.

"communing" with those people does nothing to help the problem. just creates more kumbaya moments among themselves. only a national acknowledgement of the root causes, coupled with strong action towards reversing some of them will stop it. protesting like this brings everyone's attention to it, which is a great first step towards a solution. Drug and gang wars are a real thing and they need to stop. I didn't grow up here in the relatively safe and tranquil confines of Nebraska, the Good Life State. There was a reason that my entire family moved here one by one out of Illinois, (nine in all) and it wasn't because it's easier to find Husker apparel. I guess some things people can't understand until they experience them, so I'll just chalk this kneeling up as a Hollywood type fad. I still live in here, and the concepts of Drug and Gang wars and systematic racism are not unrelated. stopping one is not mutually exclusive to stopping the other. having to leave due to drug/gang violence does not make it go away, and it certainly doesn't mean systematic racism and profiling are minor issues.
