  1. Doing the math, if it works out the way it looks like based on just the released schedules : Parity Based Teams (Assuming Top 3 East (Neb, Wisc, Iowa(?)) vs Top 3 West (Michigan, OSU, Penn State) - 5 Year Rotation for H&H Non parity Based Teams - 8 Year rotations for H&H The permanent rivalry might between Indiana/Purdue might mess up the latter # a bit but I think that looks about right. Of course, this is assuming that the Big Ten doesn't expand again in a few years.
  2. The other thing to note is that starting 2017 it looks like the Big Ten will allow conference games during week 4 - which means that there will be more flexibility in fitting in a late season OOS. Makes sense since it'll be difficult to schedule OOS games with FCS teams being (mostly) off limits starting then if we limit the scheduling to just September. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/ind/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/2013-14/misc_non_event/2017B1GFBSchedule.pdf
  3. Pretty sure the way parity scheduling will work is that you will get h&h with UM,OSU, and Penn State whenever they are available, + 2 rotating. My guess is that 2018-19 will look something like 2018: Penn State, @Mich, @MSU 2019: Mich, @Indiana, Maryland and then 2020 will rotate OSU back on again.
  4. http://blogs.mercurynews.com/collegesports/2013/06/26/actionreaction-ncaa-rules-on-oregon-pac-12-bowl-lineup-cal-hires-secor-and-pac-12-football-recruiting/#more-31778 Looks like both bowls will be pretty high up on the Pac-12's bowl order : Rose - B1G Alamo - B12 Holiday - B1G Kraft - B1G Sun - ACC With the Big Ten getting 3 of Pac12's Top 4 teams, a Big Ten team's pretty much guaranteed an annual game against Oregon or USC every year.
  5. Since 1918...so 95 years? There were 14 games prior to that but there was a 6 year break from 1912. Michigan leads, 58-45-6 (58-44-6 officially)
  6. Michigan built up a huge lead early on and OSU started chipping away at it from the 1950s. Since then it's been about even, although OSU won 4 more times than Michigan during the past 62 years. OSU was 2-10-1 against Michigan under Cooper (1988-2000) but Tressel (2001-2010) dominated Michigan 9-1(although I guess one of those wins were vacated)...so I guess we'll see!
  7. Phil Steele's projections has Michigan potentially playing spoiler to both OSU and Nebraska - I guess we'll see in a few months! http://www.philsteele.com/Blogs/2013/JUN13/DBJune24.html
  8. Looks like the Heart of Dallas will be part of a 3/3 rotation with the Armed Forces bowl...and the Military Bowl might also be added in DC. http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/78767/b1g-to-adopt-tiered-bowl-selection-process
  9. Really liking the new bowl line-up - I'll root for which ever team comes up to SF bay area! http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/9415746/sources-big-ten-adds-holiday-kraft-fight-hunger-bowls-postseason-lineup
  10. Stassen has the answer! OU/Texas are the only 2 out of the current Big 12. Colorado also had a winning record out of the old Big 12. Baylor: 2-9-1 ISU: 16-44-3 Kansas : 9-10 KSU: 5-21 OU: 10-5 OSU: 3-8-1 Texas: 10-5 Texas Tech : 4-5 TCU : 10-12-2 WVU: 5-11 Former members: Colorado: 16-14-1 Mizzou: 33-40-4 Neb: 66-48-4 *Includes seasons after Neb joined Big Ten TAMU: 6-9
  11. Well, pro-style is traditionally Michigan's MO - the past few years is more of an aberration than anything else.
  12. Interesting - I never would have guessed that NW would end up #2 but in a way that makes sense. The rest of the rankings seem more or less on target.
  13. Are you going to do one for the Big Ten as well? Last year was a pretty weird year for the conference so I wouldn't be surprised to see some odd results from an analytics perspective.
  14. It would be nice for Michigan & Ohio State to win their divisions this year for one reason - it'll be the only time for the foreseeable future that "The Game" will be played 2x in one year. No matter how the 2 game series end (a 2-0 sweep or a 1-1 split) the trolling material that will come out of that game will last for DECADES. On a more serious note I do think that in order for Michigan to win the division a 6-2 & winning the tie-breaker is the most realistic scenario. My guess is a 9-3 year + a bowl win.
  15. Johns Hopkins is a research juggernaut but reporting wise the numbers are skewed a bit because of the fact that research funding for the Applied Physics Lab (a defense contractor which accounts for half of all research at JHU) is included in the academic research #s because the lab isn't classified as a FFRL. Funding dollars for similar labs at Berkeley, MIT, U. Chicago, etc aren't included in the official numbers because of the FFRL classification. Of course, I think they'll keep the #1 distinction even if you take those numbers away but it won't be the big gap that it currently looks like if you look at the rankings. Either way, CIC may help JHU in increasing non-defense related research.
  16. Really? I suppose I can see it now that it poached half the Big East but I always considered ACC a Southern 'elite' conference with its power based around VA & NC. Then again, I always felt that the Big Ten was more of a "Northern" conference than a Midwest one ever since Penn State joined...with the new additions that's certainly going to be the branding push going forward.
  17. Kraft Hunger would be fun - I live just a mile away from the new stadium that's being built right now
  18. Oh my god I wish this game would end already so I can watch the Michigan game! Seriously some clutch (and lucky) plays by the lady Huskers this game.
  19. I think at the time there was a rift in the Big Ten on its long term strategy if it should stay a Midwest conference or a 'Northern conference' that stretched beyond the Midwest. The collapse of the Big East was the impetuous to take the latter approach. That said, I think more schools from the Big 12 footprint can be added in the future but I think it'll be balanced out with Eastern additions as well (Kansas + UConn, Mizzou + UVA, etc.)
  20. I thought I read somewhere that the payouts of Pinstripe and Holiday went up as part of the new deal...my guess is that the tiering will work out something like this : Projected 2014-19 lineup: 1. Rose* 2-4. Capital One 2-4. Outback 2-4. Holiday 5-6. Pinstripe 5-6. Music City/Gator** 7-9: Kraft Fight Hunger 7-9: Detroit bowl 7-9: Military? Heart of Dallas? Armed Forces?
  21. One thing I don't understand about Nebraska's recruiting is how little they look to Missouri (and to a lesser extent Kansas) for talent. They're the closest states to you guys and given the history of the Huskers with those states I would think you would have an advantage there over the other B1G teams and even over some Big 12/SEC teams. To be sure, the talent level isn't as high as Cali/Texas, but theres enough talent in those to states to account for 4 spots in a recruiting class every year, IMHO...and the closeness of those locations will mean that more of those kids will come up for unofficial visits and help with recruiting momentum in general.
  22. It's a mixed bag - on one hand it's a marquee annual game, on the other hand it limits the scheduling options of any Big Ten team that schedules ND. I'm actually glad to see some more variety in the OOC schedule, but it would've been great to have something like a 2 on - 2 off schedule so that the game doesn't go away entirely. If the Big Ten ever goes towards allowing OOC games past September there's a good chance that ND will show up on a Big Ten team's schedule even if it's not Michigan - that was one of the actual practical limitations that led to the cancelation of the series (ND had 3 Big Ten teams that needed to be scheduled between weeks 1-4, which limited their schedule flexibility)
  23. There's actually some schools with 3 byes! Crazy
  24. Technically that was a bilateral agreement to pause the series for 2 years - not a one sided cancelation and Michigan's win record against ND is the same as MSU's win record against UM the past 6 years...so glass houses and all that Anyway, at this point I feel like this point's been debated to death since it was first announced last year...let's just enjoy the final two games and see if the passage of time will cause both fan bases to resume the series in a decade or two.
