  1. Nevada, are you trying to say that our athletic director should be telling our coach how to coach? No one wants to win more than Bo, so putting "heat" on him won't help anything. I enjoyed his positive outlook for once. And if you think 9, 10, 10, 9, and 10 wins is barely "above average", you must be severely disappointed by everything in life.
  2. Hypothetical: you put in Suh when Baker went out. Then our D gives up 21 pts, tops, against Wisky. Now tell me "one player" doesn't make a difference...
  3. False. Look at Kansas St. They lose their stud d-back, and boom, Baylor throws 52 points at them. Before Baylor, the most points they gave up was 30 to Oklahoma St. They played stout D all year, and when a lynchpin player goes out, it starts the dominoes falling. Yes, our players quit near the end, but it all started with our 1 weakness getting worse, leading to have to move over a DE to DT making that position weaker, then moving the LBs up to help with the weak line, in turn the DBs move up and play more man-coverage, etc, etc. Our one player being out made the whole defense considerably worse.
  4. Lo Country, that was great! The SEC is not that spectacular, and heck, if you compare SEC linemen vs. B1G linemen, it's pretty darn even. They get us on the speed part.
  5. That's my point. We will continue to get thrashed until we start getting NFL talent (size is a part of that equation). Check our roster. The RS Freshman and True Freshman this year, are the size that Bo has been looking for. McMullen, according to Papuchis and Coach Kaz, has made a huge impact on our Dline, along with Valentine and Curry. Two of these guys would have been playing if Meredith would have never volunteered to move to DT. Bo, I think is looking down the road, rather than just this year. I think he sees a BCS shot with this two last classes he recruited. Sure man. There's "always next year." And then there's "the year after that", etc. We've been saying this for 4 years. I wish everyone was as optimistic as you.
  6. That's my point. We will continue to get thrashed until we start getting NFL talent (size is a part of that equation).
  7. I change the font from 14 pt. to 18 pt. and all the sudden I'm offensive? Wow, the real world must be a scary place for you. Yes, it is easy. Look at the 11 starters that have done it from Wisconsin.... I didn't even mention the coaching staff. You seem to make a lot of assumptions. My point is, something is seriously wrong if we only put 1 starting lineman in the NFL in the last 3 years. You can say all you want about "team chemistry" or whatnot, but the fact is that great players make great teams, and you measure that by seeing how many make it to the next level. Off the top of my head, three college teams with some of the best linemen are Wisconsin, Alabama, and LSU. We've covered Wisconsin (11 NFL starters), but Alabama (9) and LSU (11) are right up there too. This is why you saw the CCG debacle. I don't know if it's recruiting, development, or a combination of both, but if we want to get serious about winning games, it all starts with the trenches.
  8. This has been discussed, but in my eyes, Solich wasn't a failure, and if I remember correctly, Osborne didn't endorse the hiring of Steve Ped.
  9. I posted this in the other thread, but I think it more applies here. My point is that we don't have any NFL-caliber linemen to back up our speed players. In the last 3 years on either side of the ball, we have: Suh (Lions) Starter Ricky Henry (Saints) Has played in 1 pro game in his career Jamarcus Hardrick (Saints) Has never played a pro game Jared Crick (Texans) 2nd-string, 20 tackles in 13 games Keith Williams (Bills) 2nd-string Mike McNeill (Rams) 3rd-string, 4 career catches Marcel Jones (Saints) Hasn't played since preseason We have only 4 players that have played more than 1 game. Pretty poor showing, if you ask me. For comparison, Wisconsin has: Garrett Graham (Texans) Starter Travis Beckum (Giants) Starter Gabe Carimi (Bears) Starter Lance Kendricks (Rams) Starter Peter Konz (Falcons) Starter John Moffitt (Seahawks) Starter Bill Nagy (Lions) Starter (before season-ending knee injury) Matt Shaughnessy (Raiders) Starter Kraig Urbik (Bills) Starter J.J. Watt (Texans) Starter Kevin Zeitler (Bengals) Starter This explains so much about the thrashing we got in the CCG.
  10. Ricky Henry (Saints) Jamarcus Hardrick (Saints) Jared Crick (Texans) Keith Williams (Bills) Matt Slauson (Jets) Zach Potter (Jaguars) Carl Nicks (Bucks) Mike McNeill (Rams) Marcel Jones (Saints) More than you think Ok, let me rephrase. Players in the NFL that actually make a difference. Ricky Henry (Saints) Has played in 1 pro game in his career Jamarcus Hardrick (Saints) Has never played a pro game Jared Crick (Texans) 2nd-string, 20 tackles in 13 games Keith Williams (Bills) 2nd-string Matt Slauson (Jets) Played in 2008, outside criteria Zach Potter (Jaguars) Played in 2008, outside criteria Carl Nicks (Bucks) Played in 2007, outside criteria Mike McNeill (Rams) 3rd-string, 4 career catches Marcel Jones (Saints) Hasn't played since preseason So, in the last 3 years, we have 1 player (Suh) who starts in the NFL, and only 4 players that have played more than 1 game. Pretty poor showing, if you ask me. For comparison, Wisconsin has: Garrett Graham (Texans) Starter Travis Beckum (Giants) Starter Gabe Carimi (Bears) Starter Lance Kendricks (Rams) Starter Peter Konz (Falcons) Starter John Moffitt (Seahawks) Starter Bill Nagy (Lions) Starter (before season-ending knee injury) Matt Shaughnessy (Raiders) Starter Kraig Urbik (Bills) Starter J.J. Watt (Texans) Starter Kevin Zeitler (Bengals) Starter If this doesn't prove my point, then nothing will.
  11. Agree with everything you said. We habitually under-perform every year, but it's slightly more complicated. We have speed talent up the whazoo, but we are always lacking on the O and D lines. Quick, name a player besides Suh that played line (either side of the ball) in the last 3 years and is in the NFL? Uh, Carl Nicks? Now, name NU speed players in the last 3 years now in the NFL. I can think of at least 10 in the time it took me to write this sentence. So, yes, we have tons of NFL players, but most of that talent is wasted because they don't have good lines to play behind.
  12. And yet, you are supporting it, so your reasoning goes right out the window. That's like someone complaining about secondhand smoke, when they are a smoker themself. Coaches get paid astronomical prices (over teachers) because: 1. They work year-round 2. They work a ton more hours 3. They don't have retirement pensions 4. They have ridiculous travel requirements 5. It's a high-stress job 6. It's a very UNSTABLE job 7. It's a very small fraction of the money they bring into the university, and basically free marketing 8. Very few people can do it Reasons 6-8 are the most important. Teachers can get a job, and as long as they don't misbehave, basically settle in for the long haul with very little stress. In fact, because of the teachers' union, even very poor teachers still have almost no worry of ever being fired. Skip to reason #8. Everyone and their mother can go through college to become a teacher. It's some of the easiest college courses I've ever seen. But to become a sucessful coach? There's high turnover for a reason. I'm not blasting teachers, and know there are some really great teachers out there that probably deserve more, but like irafreak said, this whole argument is nuts in the first place.
  13. Have to have a subscription to see the link. No thanks.
  14. You're looking threw one-sided glass, aren't you? Did you forget about the phantom PI during the Michigan game? Or the late hit out of bounds (Stafford was pushed in the back, into the guy out of bounds) during the Michigan St. game that would've stopped their go-ahead touchdown? Or the punt at UCLA when the ball CLEARLY didn't ever hit Ameer, yet was called as hitting his foot? Or losing our quickest linebacker before the season started? Or losing our best D-lineman before our biggest game? I'm not making excuses. I just can't stand when people bring up "how lucky the Huskers are", or bring luck in general into a football conversation. Calls get blown, people drop passes, good players get hurt. In the end, it is what it is, and luck has nothing to do with it.
  15. If you're a D-linemen and a pulling guard takes your head off during run play, but you weren't looking, is it a flag? NO!! Because you're within STRIKING DISTANCE, and LOOKING for the ball carrier, you are therefore not defenseless. Was he hit in the back? NO! Was he 20+ yards away from the play? NO! Was he hit in the head whatsoever? NO! I can't believe the amount of dumb people that think it should've been flagged (yes, I am attacking the OP). You cannot flag something because of speed.
  16. We are very thin at LBs and D-linemen. What happened Saturday was a combination of a beat-up and undersized linemen, where our linebackers (who aren't good enough at their own position) had to cover. The end result was like playing with 10 players instead of 11. Wisconsin was the worst possible matchup out of anyone in the Big 10, with their huge O-line and two NFL running backs. We've been hanging on by a thread the whole season, and when Baker got hurt, that thread finally snapped.
  17. Did anyone else find it funny the announcers were saying we could compete in the Big 10? Like in the top half of the conference? We played a great game, but I'm not a koolaid drinker, and still think 2-16 in conference play. We have few athletes, no depth, and are playing in the toughest conference in the nation. I also thought it was funny when the camera showed the husker bench: 8 white guys and one black guy. We've got to be the whitest team in the B1G. Although I do like the way Peltz plays.....kind of like a worse-shooting Paul Verlander. Fun game to watch though, usually we're on the other side of these games!
  18. You 10 (for now) guys are nuts for thinking Burkhead will out-rush Ball. Our RB that has been hurt all year and will likely split time between 3 other guys vs. an all-time rusher in an offense that really has no other choices, playing against a beat-up/depleated D-line? But then again, I'm just another crazy guy saying crazy things on a message board.
