  1. Hopefully, one of the two vaccines will be available around Christmas so you won't have to cancel.
  2. Usually have extended family gathering at a rotating location hosted by uncle/aunt/cousin. 40-50 people. This year my folks will be dining alone, and my kids/grandkids will come to our place, as we interact with them daily. Hopefully the weather is good, and we can go visit with my folks socially distanced outdoors.
  3. After a good night's sleep, I am ready to tackle P&R again You got it, as I parsed above. And, I think gerrymandering is a serious issue, but both parties partake in it, by way of redistricting, when they are the party of power. That is why nothing is done to "fix" it.
  4. Nope, I said it is sometimes difficult to see the difference between the two terms, in practice.
  5. I guess I know when to call it a night. Evidently my pov is not coming through. Good night.
  6. Its not difficult for me. Done trying to make any sense of some replies to my stance. Thanks, and have a good night.
  7. Not defending anything. Go back to pgs 13-14 where you conflate rigged elections with gerrymandering. I was trying to point out that the outrageous claims of "rigged" election results by Trump's team are very different than the longstanding practice of redistricting by the party in power, that often leads to claims of gerrymandering, and it is difficult to see the difference between the two. Both are trying to gain electoral advantage, but neither can be accurately called "rigged elections"
  8. It won't let me take a screen shot of the results my computer gave me, as it says the file exceeds the size limit for the site. I used to use Screenspresso screen captures all the time, not sure what happened. I assure you I added nothing to the definitions. I agree with you on the bold, and thank-you for your explanation. The point I was making is exactly what you just stated, that they look similar until one party goes to far, and gets called out.
  9. Literally copied and pasted from Google Search dictionary. I added no comments or words. Again, I understand the difference in the TERMS redistricting and gerrymandering. I have merely tried (apparently with little success) to show that the two differ only if the party doing the redistricting to their advantage gets caught and/or accused of gerrymandering. And even then, as @RedDenver article pointed out, long drawn out court proceedings still can't always come to a concrete finding.
  10. I have no idea either, and I bet there are D examples and R examples because both sides engage in the process, but I know that they were redistricting when the gerrymandering occurred. Hence, my original stance that it is hard to see the difference. https://www.chron.com/politics/texas/article/Ranking-Texas-most-gerrymandered-districts-13024898.php Unlike the years of litigations and appeals might have one think, figuring out whether a district is gerrymandered is pretty simple. For example, it's worth looking back at a 2015 study that found "squiggly" districts, or districts with boundaries all over the place, are mathematically more likely to be gerrymandered.
  11. Ope I thought I did but I must have gotten distracted by the back and forth. My point is that when the party of favor does it, it is considered redistricting. When the opposition party does it, it is considered gerrymandering. In the example provided by @RedDenver about North Carolina, both sides accused the other of gerrymandering in each distinct effort to redistrict. "When it works for the candidate I support it is legal, but when it works for the candidate I oppose it is illegal" In the general election, Bustos was one of 39 candidates considered to be the most viable challengers against Republican incumbents to benefit from "Red to Blue" program offered by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.[32] Bustos was endorsed by the Quad-City Times for the general election.[33] In November, she defeated incumbent Republican Bobby Schilling 53%–47%.[34] She'd received a significant boost from redistricting, which replaced Quincy, Decatur and the district's portion of Springfield with the more Democratic portions of Peoria and Rockford. She is the first Democrat to represent a significant portion of Peoria since 1927, and only the second Democrat since the 1850s to represent a significant portion of Rockford.
  12. Please check to see how Cherie Bustos (who I feel should be Speaker) won her non-Chicago Illinois D seat originally.
  13. That is not what I meant, and you know it. Keep reading my quote for the gist of my comment.
  14. I literally did a Google dictionary search and copied/pasted the results. Try it yourself "gerrymandering definition" and "redistricting definition"
  15. But other than that, not much difference. So, when one party does it, it is okay and when the other party does it, it is illegal, got it.
  16. I am not sure I see much difference between redistricting (okay) and gerrymandering (not okay) Gerrymander: to manipulate the boundaries of (an electoral constituency) so as to favor one party or class. achieve (a result) by manipulating the boundaries of an electoral constituency. "a total freedom to gerrymander the results they want" Redistrict: divide or organize (an area) into new political (or school) districts. "he made no secret about his intent to redistrict the state to the advantage of his party"
  17. Not exactly building a lot of confidence for the rest of Biden's upcoming choices for cabinet and advisor positions imo.
  18. Looks to me like a vendetta by the City Director. He started the process in September. In the linked article there is no mention of the Police Union getting involved. Radley is being disingenuous, but that wouldn't be as much of a headline I suppose.
  19. And, depending on what transpires for the next 3+ years, it could be a winning formula given the numbers we witnessed this election.
  20. I don't think she is the best choice. They need to do better. https://thehill.com/homenews/house/526481-democrats-nominate-pelosi-to-keep-speakership House Democrats on Wednesday nominated Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to remain atop the party for another two years, brushing aside some internal grousing about a disappointing election performance in a vote demonstrating an overwhelming confidence in their long-time leader. The nomination was secured by voice vote during a process conducted remotely as a health precaution amid a surge in coronavirus cases.
