  1. Miles and Mullen both talked to the tournament after their first game was announced. They always planned to be on opposites side of the bracket. What I found interesting, is that if they do meet again in the tournament, it is reported that they both decided it would be an exhibition game (W/L wouldn't count toward their record - only the first meeting). i don't think I've ever heard of that in season. It is no different than meeting a conference opponent twice - I wonder if they will change their mind on that.
  2. I'm really on the fence about whether to renew my Men's basketball season tickets this year. Are there any other current or former season ticket holders on here? Last day to renew tickets is later this week. **I really am not looking for a rant on Tim Miles or any of that. There are plenty of threads on those different topics that have been discussed. For context, a level 300 2-pair of tickets is roughly $210 (No donation required). What did you decide and one sentence on why:
  3. i like your optimism! If we win the regional to host, the other side of the bracket (Clemson regional) would need the #3 or #4 to win (unless their #2 couldn't host - based on us being the lowest seeded #2 in all likelihood)
  4. No national (or local) writer thought it was possible for us to host even if we had won, i.e WarrenNolan, D1Baseball. Even if we had won, our RPI would have been above 30. Only twice in the last 6 years, has a regional host had an RPI over 30 and those were both from Top 3 RPI conferences. I do think we probably drop from a #2 to #3 which doesn't really matter, except with a Top 8 seed host now.
  5. Nebraska went 10-2 in the last 12 regular season conference games. They did not back into the title. Hopefully, these couple days of extra rest for the players (especially pitchers) will turn out to be a good thing before Regionals. All of the NCAA baseball projections have us squarely in still today, not on the bubble.
  6. where'd you see this? Lol wow. 2 similar programs I think he was being sarcastic....Smith hasn't scheduled a visit here and early signing period starts on the 12th so it is unlikely.
  7. Just out of curiosity, would you rather have: New coach -- with one or more starters deciding to transfer then. (Along with Morrow) OR Miles -- with no additional transfers. (I know there is a chance the new coach could convince them to stay - but for the sake of discussion let's say that doesn't happen)
  8. Palmer is awful. How do you know he is awful? He has yet to play a game at Nebraska.
  9. I'd still like to see Mark Gottfried (former NC State coach) NCAA's 4 years out of 6 2 Sweet Sixteens Right where Nebraska would love to be at and would be an attainable hire As a bonus, we'd almost for sure be the front-runner for the Rivals 150 guard that just decommitted from NC State and possibly his friend, another Rivals 150 that decommitted from UConn.
  10. Both of these articles/interviews that were written yesterday and today don't even mention Nebraska as a school he is considering or talked about. I think this is like the D. Holmes situation in football. He likes us, but we're never really in it (at least not to the level to be a serious contender). http://www.bnd.com/sports/high-school/prep-basketball/article139590768.html http://www.ksdk.com/sports/edwardsvilles-mark-smith-named-illinois-gatorade-player-of-the-year/424123372
  11. We still have a scholarship offer out to at least two uncommitted 3/4 star point-guards for 2017. I would say that is a pretty good sign they are expecting it. *We do need another point guard to back-up Watson. Right now, it is just Watson, Taylor, and Gill at the guard spot. Neither Taylor or Gill are really point guard, break press type players.
  12. I don't understand the Craig Smith logic at all as a possible candidate. At best, he would have 1 NCAA tourney appearance as a head coach (if they make it this year). He has been on the staff with Miles and yet they never won a NCAA game at CSU or Nebraska. We've done the mid-major coaches with not a lot of experience. If we are going to make a change, it needs to be a coach with some experience that coached in a Power 5 (or near Power 5). We may not be able to attract a Bill Self, but there are coaches with experience out there. Let's not make a change to set us up for the same thing.
  13. Indiana wins: Indiana 96 OSU 92 Brian Rosenthal‏ @GBRosenthal 16m #Nebrasketball has a No. 10 seed for which to play tomorrow against Michigan. Win and avoid bottom four of Big Ten Tournament. If we lose, we are in the 12/13 game against Penn State or OSU on Wednesday. (Then either MSU, Minn, or Maryland) If we are the 10, we play Iowa as the #7 on Thursday (Iowa is now locked as the 7 win or lose tomorrow) For all those that think we want the 12/13 as it might be an easier overall path, we have the shortest turn around time of any team from Sunday night to Wed Afternoon. We also have not played well when we only have a two day prep. We want the 10.
  14. I don't think so on Smith -- If we make a change, we need a head coach who has been to more than one NCAA tournament - we've done the mid-level guys / 1 tournament and that hasn't worked (Collier, Sadler, Miles, Smith (would have none as a head coach -- barring conf. tournament) I think Mark Gottfried who was just let go at NC State - 4 NCAA appearances in 6 six years - two sweet sixteens - that is right at the level we'd love to be at
  15. In terms of avoiding the bottom 4, it's pretty simple now. We have to beat Michigan AND Ohio State needs to lose to Indiana (At Ohio State) Tie-breaker would give us the #10 seed in almost every scenario regardless of how the other games play out. If we lose and/or OSU wins then that is where it gets more complex with scenarios for where we will be seeded from #11 - #13 seeds.
  16. Not really, or at least not after tomorrow. Penn State and Ohio State play each other on Tuesday. The winner will have 7 wins. We have the tie breaker against both but there is no way around needing one more win to avoid the bottom 4.
  17. This is what I think will be interesting. I really don't know how you can not do anything after this year. If he doesn't get any extension, there will be much hand-wringing that he's being handicapped in recruiting and not getting the support he needs. If you're not going to give him one at this point, he pretty much has to be fired. It's possible that he could be given a one-year extension so he'd basically be where he is now but even that is a bit short of the norm. But if you give him a one-year extension after how this season is turning out only to have to fire him next year, that doesn't look like a smart decision either. I thought when he didn't get one last year he'd either be fired or given a two-year extension after this year to get him back to the usual. That's looking like a pretty interesting decision at this point. Don't we only sign 1 player in the next class? Technically yes but the transfer from Georgetown makes it more like 2 We still are in on a 4-Star point guard for 2017 (Didn't commit anywhere on signing day). We technically are full in terms of scholarships, but both OWH and LJS writers have alluded to the fact that there is a high chance of one more becoming available. (Nick Fuller leaving as a graduate transfer -- mutual decision)
  18. It may come down to who the A.D on his available Top 5 coaches list and if we have a realistic shot of any of them. To make a move, I think you need more than a Riley type name. (A lot of Nebraska fans didn't know who that was upon hiring - regardless of how it works out) Plus you also have to consider the real possibility that we'll have a couple of transfers (especially if Miles is let go - unless it is a bigger name coach). Does that justify the risk of a few players leaving, which again would put us in the same boat as this year...We were going to be good, until people left...?" (Petteway, Pritch, White, etc...) FWIW: While he has some Nebraska family ties, I don't think we'd have a shot at Hoiberg. Most are tabbing him for the Indiana job or even Illinois if they don't make the NCAA's.
  19. I posted this in another thread, but this is helpful when wanting to know the different scenarios: -- If we win against Illinois we have 80% chance of avoiding the bottom 4 - if we lose, it is like 80% that we are in the bottom 4 (unless we pull upsets in our last two games). Here is the bracket generator for the tournament where you can see different scenarios. http://bball.notnoth...0.php?sport=mbb FWIW: Purdue holds the tie breaker over Wisconsin for the #1 seed
  20. If we win against Illinois we have 80% chance of avoiding the bottom 4 - if we lose, it is like 80% that we are in the bottom 4 (unless we pull upsets in our last two games). Here is the bracket generator for the tournament where you can see different scenarios. http://bball.notnothing.net/big10.php?sport=mbb With the Wisconsin loss, it is very likely Purdue will be the 1 seed. Avoiding Purdue and Michigan State would be ideal. Our best path seems to be the 10 seed - Avoid the Play-in game / play Michigan or Iowa / then Wisconsin.
  21. Jerry Palm had some stat that like 95% (don't quote me on that exact %) of at large teams ever selected have been at least 4 games over 500. Given losses to Garner-Webb (With Morrow), Rutgers, Iowa (RPI over 100), we absolutely would need to win the Conf. Tournament to be in NCAA. We do/would hold the tie-breaker over Indiana, Penn State, Illinois (if we win) Ohio State (if we win and Purdue stays in 2nd place) to help avoid the bottom 4 play-in round.
  22. It will be fine. Erstad said it would be like 3 innings, basically by committee. Burkamper is still working his way back from shoulder soreness. “We’re not going to go and throw a guy 100 pitches,” Erstad said. “Everybody isn’t built up like how they’re going to be in a few weeks, and guys like Nate Fisher, Jake McSteen and Luis Alvarado — guys who are either coming off an injury or haven’t pitched at all — they’re one-time-a-weekend guys, so they’ll be in that 45-50-pitch range.”
  23. I commend Tanner! It takes a lot of backbone to admit you made a mistake and didn't handle things well. He's not asking to be a star. In the article, he clearly states that he knows his role and that is to get our scholarship post players ready. We need practice size and strength to go up against. Good for him!
  24. It's all about avoiding the conference bottom 4 now (conference tournament play in game). It didn't help today that: Penn State upset Maryland (PSU now has better conf. record than Neb) Illinois upset Northwestern (Illinois will be tied with Neb with loss Thursday) Michigan beat Michigan State (Michigan has a one game / possibly two game lead depending on Thursday) Basically, the worse case scenario for us going into Thursday. We are now tied for 11th (play-in game). Still a lot of games left, but something to keep an eye on. No matter what happens Thursday, Tuesday home against Penn State is big. Winner has tie-breaker as we only play once.
  25. Miles will get next year. Which may not be all bad for us - because Groce from Illinois will be fired after this year and Pitino at MN if their slide continues and they don't make the tournament. We would probably be third in that pecking order if we had to go against them for a coach.
