  2. Amac3309 lol But seriously why do we have to have these set guidelines to define success? 8-4 in 2008 was success, it changes year to year. This year if we go back I bet all the doomers on here said we'd go 7-5 or 9-3 if we're "lucky". Yet they are the first to complain about how bad 10-2 is. You also have the argumet that it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for blowout losses. Well if a win is a win then a loss is a loss. That's how I see it. I was upset in 2009 when we lost 16-15 to Va-Tech and 9-6 to ISU and I was just as upset when we lost 63-31 to Ohio State and 70-31 to Wis. this year. At least Pelini doesn't lose half a$$ when he does it he does it right! haha Ha seriously right, bringing up some bad memories I was at the 16-15 va tech game and the Ohio st game this year I wasn't saying i agree with the post but it makes for a good discussion of what success is, I think there is a difference between a successful program and team team to me is more on the field while I think bo has built a successful program when u include off the field issues grades accountability etc as far as on the field success I would agree that it's a moving target I just want to make sure our standards for success stay high

  4. BTW laughed out loud when I saw the only team to allow more yards to Georgia this year was...Florida Atlantic coached by...
  5. Ian Hest with some interesting thoughts on twitter that I'm curious people's reaction to. @IanHest: If success is 75% win-pct (9-3 "fair" 2 me), then: Bob-9yrs (out of 11), TO-24yrs (25), Solich-4yrs (6), BC-0 yrs (4), Bo-0 yrs (5) #Huskers @IanHest: If success is Top 15 finish in AP poll then: Bob-8yrs (out of 11), TO-24 yrs (25), Solich-3yrs (6), Callahan-0yrs (4), Bo-1 yr (5) #Huskers @IanHest: If success is Bowl Wins then: Devaney - 6-3, TO - 11-14, Solich - 3-3, Callahan - 1-1, Bo - 2-3 #Huskers Interesting thoughts
  6. 100% agree about the safety play, its tough in Bo's d because the main responsibilities of he safety are off tackle run support and deep pass support, in the games we lost they failed at one or both, that's why I'm not surprised which the talk of some of the corners moving to safety, really think Jackson could be special! Your spot on with the assessment about the depth and I have always been a believer that the difference between most teams in the top 20 especially with a month to heal and prepare is minimal. And I do think we can play with about anyone in that scenario. I really think it was a well coached season, everyone complains when bo says execution but looking back on the losses the d game plan was pretty solid and more times than not there were people in position to make plays they really just didn't execute. I look forward to some of these young athletes on d developing in the offseason and I hope this year put a fire in them to reatore the blackshirts tradition because from a national perspective people look at only the score and laugh at the use of the words blackshirts, that's why I love guys like rose tweeting last night that his 2013 season starts today and his resolution is to restore the blackshirts tradition!
  7. Sounds like he was at the game and "loves" our offense
  8. No. Anyone who has ever played in the secondary knows that your most basic responsibility is to not let the receiver get behind you. Those deep balls that torched Evans and Green were not covered well. Although I am not trying to call you out here Maudfather, that is not entirely true in this match zone scheme. Green and Evans were supposed to have safety help over the top on those deep throws. The problem lies in the fact that all season long our safeties have bit on play fakes causing them to be 2 steps behind when they are to have over the top responsibility. This isn't all on the safeties, however. The front 7 has been so bad against the run that the safeties have run support responsibility as well. We are lucky to have had the success we've had in the secondary when we are committing at least 1 additional defender up for run support. Therefore, scheme is a small problem. It is more on personnel. 100% true, watch the first pick by smith he didn't bite on the play fake all the other deep throws the safety bit hard
  9. I thought it was a great scheme. I think we all get tired of Bo saying "we need to execute", but the fact of the matter is that he's speaking the damn truth. Our players have the hypothetical ability to execute just fine, but for some reason, and I have no idea what it is, they just fail to in the biggest moments. There were so many times when we got pressure on the quarterback (yes, can you believe that? Our one-star two-bit washed up undersized defensive line got good pressure in the backfield!) only to have him barely slip out of our grasp, roll out and make a play. There were so many times when we'd get solid stops on first down. Solid stops on second down. And something happened to let them convert on third down. There were so many times when we would have nearly flawless, perfect coverage, only to have their receivers make plays and our defensivebacks not. Everything you just said can be summed up to one thing. Murray is friggin' good. Like first round $30+ million good. Those back shoulder throws looked like Aaron Rodgers out there. I am upset we didn't pull through, but happy in the effort. I am also completely impressed with Murray. Wow. He is good. 54% completion good? Everything I have read said he is maybe 2nd round more likely 3rd round pick and he should go back to school
  10. The only thing I would say to this is, we think we have, but how many of us said the same thing after Cody green or Todd peat, even getting seisay last year. I hope your right and will root for these kids like there is no tomorrow but the bottom line is we need to see some development on the field. Wow I think we saw ALOT of development on the field this year on the offensive side of the ball. The oline looked better than they have in a long time. Absolutely true my only point is we all get excited about recruiting classes and potential but you just don't know till you see the development on the field. Lots of soph and jr have developed on offense but only a handful on d

  12. I don't get all the talk about feeling better because Aaron Murray is gonna be a top pick, everything I have read said he would be a second or third round pick this year and ranked the 10th best QB in this yrs draft
  13. The standard excuse is Bo's first couple recruiting classes were lacking. Shouldn't matter. This was a defense chalk full of Seniors. There was more than enough time to coach up the guys we did have, snag some JUCO guys to help, and turn them into a respectable defense. This was unequivocally a coaching failure. I suppose the excuse next year will be, well, these guys are young - got to give them time to learn the defense. That could take years, if it happens at all. The biggest question i have is bo clearly trusts beck with the offense as is evident by the underclassmen that have been playing the last few years, he let beck put in the best players, yet on d time and time again he refuses to put in younger kids in favor of vets that are clearly less talented but "know the system". I say take a shot with the younger guys that have the talent to run "your system" rather than the guys that may know it better but don't have the talent to run it
  14. I Just posted this on another thread but applies here We had a year where the 4 games we lost we scored over 30 pts in each The stats are really staggering when u consider them Gave up 653 yds Gave up 63 pts 500 yds and 371 yds rushing Gave up 70 pts 640 yds and 539 yds rushing And just to top it off with the vaunted top pass d Gave up 45 pts 589 yds and 427 passing

  16. When I watch him as much as I think we are set at the RB position I realize how much we will miss him Kid is a hammer
  17. What happened to him? He remembered he isn't a tackle and has no business blocking outside rushers
  18. How do you say that when outside of this game we have had how many second half comebacks this year? I'd say for the majority of the season starting strong was a bigger problem
  19. There is d for a perfect ball it's called a pass rush Keep in mind how BAD Georgia's d was against the run this year! Martinez and Abdullah are dynamic but if they don't fix the turnovers we should temper our expectations
  20. How is 2 td's close? And there is a difference in keeping it close and allowing 300 yds and 30 pts and getting taken to the woodshed on d again
  21. We learned we need to bring erstad in and have him do outfield adjust to the ball drills with our d backs Also learned or reinforced that as much as i like and respect him we won't be nationally relevant with TM as our QB As I think about it we learned we are who we are and prob will continue to be a 9 or 10 win top 25 team with a dynamic offense that is way to mistake prone and a d with a good scheme but without the talent to run it
  22. Game really came down to long pass plays by Georgia and not making a play on the ball by our dbacks that were in position to do so
