  1. No real mystery here. Both teams have a offensive identity that can recruit to. They find big lineman that can run block and teach to how to pass block. I don't think a lot of people understand how hard to is going to be to recruit to Riley's 50/50 balanced offense. We will pretty much have to have NFL caliber players at every position on offense to make it work properly. Not saying it can't be done here but even USC struggles with this and they have huge recruiting advantages over us.
  2. I'm guessing somewhere between the medicine cabinet and the metamucil That's comedy gold! Had coffee shooting out of my nose. 😂
  3. Have to agree.... how are we supposed to beat FSU,USC and all the other Pro style offenses in college when we can't beat out Oregon state?
  4. Which is apparently easier to do when you have a unlimited supply of Dodge Chargers to hand out. 😂
  5. I'd actually say it was a 5 year run and both the Saban and Osborne would be in conversation for GOAT. Valid arguments for either can be made but I'd disagree with anyone saying Saban is clearly the better coach. I'd probably agree with you there, but accomplishments matter in these discussions. Over the last 8 years (including this year) Saban is 100-10, with 4 national titles in the last 7 years, and one win away from making it 5 in 8 years. That's insane, and incredibly hard to top. Osborne did have 3 undefeated title seasons (one of those being the greatest CFB team of all-time), compared to Saban's 1, thus far.... You could also say that Osborne was 3 crappy calls away from having 4 undefeated national championship teams in 5 years and a sick team away from playing for 5 in 5 years. All without the help of ESPN.

  7. If the rumor about the Iowa game practices is true it's very concerning. Only way to fix it is the break them and build them back up. Which I would inform them starts tomorrow. With very physical practices from here on out.
  8. I must of missed the part where it was a requirement to get in the playoff. Until they change the rules then the committee had the 4 correct teams in the playoff.
  9. Yes Biggest gift fraud championship there is And what about Penn States 39 point loss to Michigan? What are you going to do with that? Ohio State lost on the road at night on a blocked field goal returned for a TD. Right team was in the playoff.
  10. So should the 2012 Alabama team been excluded from playing in the championship game? Didn't win their division. Feel pretty confident in saying the Clemson team that crushed Ohio Dtate would have beat Penn State as bad or worse.
  11. It's the 2004/2005 mindset all over again. "Oh, just you wait until Coach Callahan gets his guys in here, then the offense will be humming." It's fools gold. ***** Thank You I find it interesting that those who are most ardent in their support of this staff also look back fondly on the 2004 to 2007 seasons. I'm not really sure that they are actually Husker fans. I'd prefer taking advice from our last great coach. Have a power-run based offense, a fast, ass kicking attitude defense, with nasty special teams to boot. Go back to what got us to where we were historically. Just gotta get a staff with that mindset. I hope that man is Scott Frost. Hopefully he is ready in a couple of years.
  12. Not sure why Bama isn't just turning and handing to the RB. Huskies haven't stopped it all day. Kiffin is out thinking himself.
  13. Before Harbaugh was hired for the 2007 season, Stanford had the #59 (2006), #25 (2005), and #60 (2004) classes, or a #48 average. They just came off a 1-11 season, where 9 of those 11 losses were blowouts. He came in and they immediately improved, and then improved again, and then improved again, and finally improved again before he was hired away. The situation Harbaugh inherited at Stanford and improvement he consistently made there is nothing like Riley at Nebraska. And anyone who says "he's done well all things considered to this point" after a losing season and the curbstompings we've encountered is also not being objective. Ok that's my bad, so not 40, number 48. I used rivals and 247 in combination and made that mistake. So those 8 places represent a whirlwind of difference in your opinion? Jim Harbaugh is an elite Coach at both the college and NFL level. He took over a team with a talent level within the same ballpark as Riley did in the cupboards. He proceeded to win 4 games, then 5 games, then 8 games. He didn't surpass Mike Riley's 1st season win total until his 3rd year. "He inherited a team with a 1 win record" you say, so is he from an objective point of view allowed a couple bad seasons? You prove my point in that sentence. It is of course relevant what the previous coach leaves behind in culture and talent, and that of course plays into Riley's losing season and blowouts. You know what Harbaugh didn't inherit Qmany? A defense that gave up an NCAA record breaking amount of yards rushing in a game, a team accustomed to it's coach receiving penalties and being broadcast throwing fits on the sideline, a team that was pulled aside by the previous coach and told the AD was a p*ssy and they should transfer. Lets be even more objective just to crush your point a little further. Nebraska is the first Major college football program that Riley has coached at. I want to note that I don't count Oregon State due to lack of resources, and unbelievably bad tradition. When he took over at Oregon State, the beavers hadn't been to a bowl game since 1966. There are very few power 5 teams as historically bad as Oregon State. Let's take a look at some of the best coaches in the current era of college football and their record in their first 2 seasons as a head coach of a Major program. Mike Riley- Nebraska- (15-10)- 60% Nick Saban- Michigan State- (12-11-1)- 50% Jim Harbaugh- Stanford- (9-15)- 37.5% Urban Meyer- Utah- (22-2)- 92% Dabo Swinney- Clemson- (13-8)- 62% So lets see, among 4 of the best active College Football Coaches Mike Riley ranks better or about the same as 3 of them. I'm going to go ahead and say its pretty objective to say that he has done nothing in his first two years that proves he can't and wont win a championship. You can continue to pretend his performance his first two years points to the fact he has no chance, but history just doesn't agree. Wow, seriously? You're comparing what Saban took over at MSU, or what Harbaugh took over at Standford, to what Riley took over at Nebraska? Nebraska was a 9 win per season team with the exact same talent that Riley took over. At this point, any fewer wins for Riley than 18 is unacceptable. This season the Huskers literally lost every game against a quality opponent (with the arguable exception of Minnesota). To be sitting here at 15-11 after two years is ridiculous...and we all know that should be 14-11 since Nebraska didn't belong in a bowl at 5-7 last season. So now Riley is sitting here at 57%. That's a huge surprise, said nobody with half a clue. He has been coaching for 30 years and has been a .500 coach the entire time. So here he sits at Nebraska as a .500 coach....okay .576 but it's right around where he has been his entire career. No surprises here. Oh yes seriously, I am comparing those two head coach's at two different programs to Mike Riley in their first two years. And I am sorry to say it but Nebraska has been nothing special for a long time so try not to be so shocked I could compare those two programs to us. There is of course an imbalance between Nebraska where Riley got them, and the other two programs no doubt about it. They are two of the greatest coach's ever however, so even with a disadvantage it seems ok to me to pit Riley against them. Everyone here is still upset about the blowouts and I get it. As I keep saying I'm not here preaching how amazing Riley is and he is the next Saban. I'm just saying its a bit early to completely write him off as a head coach. The reactions i'm getting are that I am unreasonable, which is why I point out a few of the greatest coaches and how their first two years at a major program went. I did it to illustrate sometimes coaches need more than two years, not for any other point. Plenty of coaches have had tons of success their first two years, and we all know it. Like it or not we are all getting another year of Riley. I would just prefer to be optimistic leading into it. I still think there's a chance for a big turn around next year. Yeah, well...you go ahead and try to be optimistic, I'm going to choose reality. Riley is a .500 coach. He has always been a .500 coach. There is no indication that anything other than a weak schedule will change that. And any hope that he can compete against the likes of Harbaugh and Meyer is just fantasy. You aren't choosing reality, I just showed you in reality that amazing coaches have started off worse than Riley and it obviously all worked out. You are choosing to say Mike Riley has no chance without acknowledging that Riley has done some great things in his career and even here. That's pessimism my friend. Only problem with your theory is tha Riley has been a head coach for 30 years and coached in the NFL. I'd expect more from someone with his experience. The reality is that he has been a average to below average coach at every stop. Now I know you will come back with his Grey Cup team in Canada but the league is a perfect fit for the kind of offense he wants to run and is a far cry from American football.
  14. Yep. Our CBs are 10 yards off and concede any pass 5-6 yards. I do not understand why our corners play off so much. We play soft because we can't cover in man. So better to give up the short stuff. That may be a good initial observation. However, when you are down 10+ points in the fourth quarter, you need to switch it up and play man-to-man tighter. There really is no excuse for the lack of adjustments made.Did you miss the long touchdown pass? The coaching staff doesn't trust our DB's. Not saying I agree with it but it's the reality.Oh no not another touchdown pass! What will we do down 20+ instead of 10+...It is really stupid to argue that the coaching staff shouldn't have made adjustments. I don't care if you don't trust the DBs (which I trust more than our mediocre DL). Sounds like another excuse...I get enough of those at work.If we can't cover in tight man what exactly are they supposed to do? Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of banker but what adjustment are they going to make? The adjustment would be to attempt to play tight man-on-man coverage. You could be right and it might not work. But, in the fourth quarter when you are down, what do you have to lose? Lose by more than estimated? At least you can silence the critics (like myself) and say you tried something different. It's not really Bankers job to worry about what the critics think he should do. It's to give his players a chance to be successful and to win games. He watches them in practice everyday so that's the coverage we play. Which is a huge improvement over last years mess.

  16. So can we criticize Langsdorf for leaving our tackles on a island all night? It only took me a handful of plays to figure out that Gates couldn't handle their DE and we needed to use a TE or RB to help him out.

  19. His carreer win percentage does that. There's a reason he's a .500 coach.
  20. Not so much. Spend all your time worrying about being balanced.
  21. Agreed.I think this years results are where we should have been at last year considering the way we lost games. So this year 9-3 with a couple blowouts feels like more of the same. Top it off with a complete halt to recruiting optimism and we all mostly feel pretty meh about the program currently. There is a lot to like, there is a lot not to like. I want a damn conference title more than anything right now. I expect one and feel we as such a passionate and dedicated fan base DESERVE a title. But the fact it's been almost 2 decades since our last one isn't solely Riley's fault. It's not even Cally, Bo or Franky's fault. It's all their faults, we couldn't have hit a 2 decade drought without all of them. That's not a knock to any of them specifically, it is what it is. They each tried their damndest to get us a title, Riley still could. I'm not ready to throw him under the bus because I think 2017 will be the first year we truly see this team under his guidance, probably why I haven't felt nearly as invested in Nebraska yet as I was under Bo. Considering the bolded was the last one to win a conference title, of course it's not his fault. Texas and OU were running roughshod over the Big 12, so I won't put much blame at all on Clownahan. Really, it's more or less Bo's fault. The Big 12 as a conference was really down in 2010 which may have been Bo's best team. We pretty much pi$$ed away the conference title. Then, we went to the B1G. In 2012, we played unranked and barely .500 Wisconsin where we got boat raced. This is why it's been so long since we won a conference title. So since OU and Texas were so untouchable, that gives Clowny a pass for terrible coaching? And because Frank gave us a title he gets a pass even though his staff ran us into the ground? I do agree though, that Bo SHOULD have given us a couple titles. He didn't. Neither did Clowny. Franky could have given us more. And Riley probably could have given us one this year. That's why I say they are all at fault for the drought. Exactly how did Franks staff run us into the ground? One bad season? Love the revisionist history.
  22. Osborne said that Frank was one of his best recruiters. I'll take his word on it.
  23. Still a better coach than we have now.
  24. I personally think a lot of it has to do with population decline in the smaller towns. Hardly any 11 man football being played in the state compared to the 80's and 90's. Which has led to a decline in the coaching these kids get now days.
  25. Decided to go back and read thru all of your posts. All I see is a lot of BS.
