  1. Nebraska is very much relevant in Texas and are somewhat relevant to where my aunt lives in Florida.
  2. On my way to class this morning the guys on 105.3 the fan broached the subject that Nick Saban was expected to be meeting with some folks in Austin here pretty quick. Granted, I caught very little of the segment as I was running a bit behind and had to hurry in to class. I've searched for a reference from the station and for any form of podcast to validate that I'm not making this up, but to this point I've been unsuccessful. The guys on the station did mention that as of right now they don't have any official evidence either and it's just rumor at this point. I just thought this would be something interesting to keep an eye on.
  3. First off, I really like this plan. I do have a question though. This plan is based off a 9 game conference slate. What would it look like with 10, if say the conference stands pat at 16 teams? Maybe having a cross-over protected game at that point wouldn't be such a bad idea? Anyway, good idea on the "pods" and scheduling. Makes for good food for thought.

    Thanks Knapplc. Good stuff.

Sad really, but this is basically what a lot of us in central Texas identify Austin as being these days. It's not only tailgating either haha

I mean I see a lot of douche-baggery in a lot of big time programs that aren't isolated specifically in Austin. I was looking for more clear cut examples because they "they are douchebages" and "we are Texas. Give us everything" is about all I ever see when searching for stuff. Do you guys have any, like, examples of them being douchey and such? I don't necessarily need direct links to any of it I'm just looking for a little bit more substance.

Hey guys, This is my first thread, so excuse me if I've done anything outside of the norm. I've been hitting up husker message boards and espn and what not for quite some time and I always hear bad things about Texas: conference killer, selfish, egocentric, etc. I live in Texas and for the most part the only thing I really have seen or heard that may be (borderline, imo) taboo is their Longhorn network on espn. Now I'm not old enough to know about anything that occurred during the merger of the Texas schools and the Big8 of the 90's. I've tried searching around on the boards and such to find some credence as to why so many Nebraska fans hate Texas a part from the terrible win/loss record against them over the last several meetings. I'm going to continue to search for some stuff, but i was wondering if any of you all had some links or some experiences that you could share to help me out. Now I don't mean to turn this into one big Texas bash, I'm just curious as to the history of the Nebraska disdain for them.

It is definitely on a downswing. Rutgers and Maryland? More ACC teams joining? Legends and Leaders? Neutral site conference games? Urban Meyer? Screw all of that. Really? This conference is on a downswing because we just picked up some of the most significant media markets and fertile recruiting grounds, we have southern ACC schools with ties to significant media markets and recruiting grounds wanting to join the B1G, a new TV rights deal in 2014-2015, and you're crying over a single home game that could be played at a neutral site and used to generate further media exposure and recruiting interest (like, say, Dallas, Chicago, or New Orleans)? And for the sake of hilarity, let's just say that the B1G is in a "downswing". It's still more stable than the Big XII, generates more revenue and media exposure for our program than the Big XII ever did, and at least our football program is getting a fair shake. The only athletic program that hasn't benefited from being in the B1G is baseball. But what's funny about that is those ACC schools you're complaining about have good baseball programs which will work with Nebraska to bring about change to the recruiting and geographic restrictions keeping B1G baseball down. I mean, seriously? These complains make as much sense as the people that wanted to run Dr. Tom off to Colorado--and their opinions were just as premature and myopic as these. Are you making any money off of it? These are all horrible moves for the fans. Not to mention the reasoning why I'm supposed to like it is very flawed. Kids in New York are going to come to Nebraska just because we play at Rutgers once every 4-6 years? I disagree with neutral site games being horrible for fans. I for one am a huge fan, but I'm also 24 year old college student that lives in central Texas. Before Nebraska left the Big12 my dad and I would get to see them regularly down here. I think a neutral site game in Dallas would be pretty dandy for those of us that don't live up north. And if it was made to be a yearly endeavor it could pay huge dividends to the universities competing in that game for a slew of different reasons.

Fingers crossed that the Husker's get a neutral game in Texas. Preferably Dallas.
  10. HAHA I guess that's what I get for talking about a team's bowels on a message board. But anyway, yea. I don't know if there is any credence in whether a worn condition of a ball leads to an increase in fumbles, but I would imagine if the ball was a slick as the one they showed on television it would make it a pain to grip onto without gloves, especially in the rain.
  11. Poop My bad, I meant bowl. Not intestines.
  12. I know this may sound silly. During the bowel game the announcers showed the type of football the team uses in comparison to that of Georgia. Georgia's ball was pretty much brand new. Nebraska's on the other hand was old and looked pretty worn. So, my question is this. Besides arm strength and mind over matter, does the football itself lend itself to higher fumble rate? Like I said, I know it sounds silly, but I'm just curious what you guys think.
  13. In 1660 a 6'2" red haired Englishman stepped off a boat in Elizabeth City Shire (Norfolk) Virginia & headed west into the hills. Three hundred years later my grandfather left those same hills & moved to Ohio (my mother was a freshman at WVU at the time). Yeah it's fair to say I've walked the green rolling hills of West Virignia a bit. That would require a change in NCAA rules. If the power conferences go past 16, they will break off from the NCAA. Even at 16, you are looking at only 5 conferences that really count. SEC, B1G, Big XII, PAC12 and ACC, The ACC is the weakest, and if Big XII decides to go to 12 or 16, the ACC probably falls off to Big East level sort of thing. Leaving only a power 4 who rule football. If those 64 teams were to really decide they didn't want to deal with the NCAA, they could easily break off and form their own organization. Which could be interesting if they only allowed competition between the Power 4. You have to have rules and you have to have an unbiased governing body to enforce the rules. I don't see how it would be beneficial to any of these schools to break off from the NCAA or prevent themselves from being able to schedule smaller schools not associated with these super conferences. I'm sure being able to have as many home games as possible is a pretty good reason as to why it would be irrational to try and exclude a large number of smaller schools eager to play on the road for some $$. Also, would it even be legal for these conferences to do that?
  14. Texas to the B1G? I mean, I would love that if Nebraska got placed in their division because I live here, but really every Texas fan I know bashes the crap out of the B1G. What would the incentive be for Texas to join? They already have hordes of money and national clout. They may lose their only other big rivalry with OU. I just don't see them joining unless the B1G gives them some sort of kickback because I feel like an SEC move or a PAC move with the Oklahoma schools is better for Texas. And I would be very sore if the B1G decided to offer them side deals that teams such as Rutgers, Maryland, and Nebraksa wouldn't have otherwise recieved. But oh well, if a Texas invite means possibly adding another school from down south I'd love it because that would mean I would actually get to watch a game without out having to shell out hudnreds of dollars to come watch.
  15. Hey guys, I've creeped this site for some time and decided to go ahead and make a profile. I'm from and, currently, still live in central Texas, but my dad and his siblings are from Lincoln. I've been a husker fan since, probably, birth. I often went to the games when they played down here and have only been to one game in Lincoln. Ayway, I figured it customary to make an introductory post and to just say hello. So, hello. Looking forward to taking part in all of the HB shenanigans and getting to know you guys. 1) Where are you from originally? Central Texas-Near Abilene 2) Where do you live now? Town near Stephenville, Texas 3) Favorite Husker memory? At Baylor in 97. Tickets were a birthday present from my great uncle/aunt from Lincoln. I turned 9 and was my first live game. 4) Worst Husker memory? First game in Lincoln a few years back. Was against Texas Tech. 5) Number of home games attended? 1 6) Number of away games attended? Quite a few 7) How did you find HuskerBoard? (referral source) Just googling husker news.
