  1. Oregon gained notoriety when Nike went all in and went crazy with uniforms etc. They sell the sh#t out of it. To disagree would be asinine I'd say they gained more notoriety when Chip Kelly became their O.C. and completely changed the notion of "pace of game" throughout the college football landscape, and tweaking an offensive scheme that has proven to be damn good with or without Heisman caliber talent that competes on a championship level.
  2. I can't wait for the day when a recruit actually tweets this out: I am officially a commit of Oregon! #GoDucks
  3. Do we really want a recruit that is going to make a decision based on uniform manufacturers?!?
  4. Those are practice jerseys. They've had similar ones since 2013. Here's TM with it on: edit: Actually 2012, here's Burkhead with one on:
  5. That's my first thought when seeing this posted. The game has changed drastically in too many directions. For example, let's see how that defense, and it's similar concepts do against 4 verticals and other "air raid" concepts. How well does the defense defend the zone read? It's difficult for a guy like me to try and "compare" TO's defense, and say it's better than Bo's. Bo had more to deal with. Don't get me wrong, Bo and his D should have done better. No question. Coaching in general on that side of the ball should have been better. Coaching back then, was most likely on point. I think TO and his staff had the better ability to "teach" and "coach" than Bo and his staff. I think that's the element that I would like to compare.
  6. Stay between the udder and the hock. It's a 32 Belly Option, on 2, on 2...
  7. You're right. Texas has the "T" on their baseball caps instead of the Longhorn logo. And as I said, Oregon State has the "OS" on their caps. They tried to re-brand MSU and trademarked a new logo. But the fans got a hold of it ahead of time and threw a fit. The change in the "Spartan" logo was incredibly minimal, but enough to start a huge campaign from the fans. In the end, the Athletic Dept decided not to make the change and Nike complied. From what I read, they also wanted to change the shade of green, which, they eventually did. But they re-branded Duke, which had no need for a re-brand. You have to wonder why Nike re-brands. Probably to "create a new logo" for the sake of exclusivity of that logo "created" by Nike. Which is fine if you don't mind a company owning that logo exclusively. I'm not saying this is what will happen, I am just merely relaying information from an article I read and saying that it's interesting. Nike did seem to push Tennessee around, unless you read into it differently than I did. But Nike seems to have a lot of "play by our rules" mentality. Truth be told, I remember something from what Kenny Bell said about Adidas, when we got the new deal with Adidas. http://www.omaha.com/huskers/nebraska-extends-deal-with-adidas/article_84b7681e-e7ca-5b20-b5d9-2ca6bf74254f.html Say what you want about what us fans want, and I can't speak for how well Nike's "customer service" is, but with Michigan gone, we're practically Adidas' #1 client. Sure we might get better alternates with Nike and Under Armour. Woo! But what they do for the student athlete seems kind of important too. Nike might do that, too. But we know Adidas does it for us.
  8. Don't ask me why. Don't ask me how. As I know very little about the kid, and where his place is on the depth chart, and his coaches feelings about him. But I have a good feeling about Mikale Wilbon. Either I'm an idiot who should be kicked off Huskerboard for even suggesting him, or I'm a genius for seeing something in him... My money is on the former being true, but I'm hopeful for the latter. In either case, don't kick me off here...
  9. The branding process by Nike is incredibly demanding. For example, Nike made Tennessee get rid of the "Lady Vols" nickname for everything but Basketball. This caused a stir in Tennessee, and it was found out that Nike gets rid of the school's logo's and replaces them with one singular logo. They do a lot during this process. But basically, they market the hell out of it. It'd be worth reading this article that shows some case studies of what they did to previous school's logos (including Oregon State's). http://deadspin.com/nike-to-tennessee-dont-talk-about-what-were-doing-1704544586 What I know is that we brand our sports with a singular "N" and that's the "Iron N" But we also have "N"s specific to football. For example, the "football N" is the one on our helmets: We also have a separate "N" for Baseball: Honestly, the "football N" is awesome, but I love that it is "football specific". Something tells me that we would most likely still be able to have all these separate logos. I have seen the "OS" hat from Oregon State on their baseball hats recently, for example. But we never see Sparky from ASU (which I hate because I hold grudges that are from 1996). I wouldn't be surprised to see Sparky back since ASU is with Adidas now. Overall, I don't know how I feel about being pushed around by Nike. Which, unless I'm mistaken, sounds like what happened at Tennessee and some of these other schools.
  10. There's also Uni-Watch. http://www.uni-watch.com/ They have a column on ESPN now and then...
  11. 20 years from now, if both of those traditions were to continue, which won will be more of a tradition? And which one will feel more forced? Are college kids going to still be "jumping around" to "classic 90's" tunes in 2035? Then again, 70's funk can still get 'em movin' today! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83I9El6C47A
  12. Bad design, poor quality material, uninspired fan merch, and more than anything negative perception by potential recruits. I'll give you bad alternates. But I love the fan merch. Not sure t-shirts and such are going to get exponentially better if, indeed better at all. If anything, we'll only notice the Swoosh or U that will make the difference. That will probably make some feel all warm and fuzzy inside, just the difference in the brand logo. I also love our normal jerseys. They did a great job updating the "Winning Tradition" patch IMO. I'm not sure I can jump on the "burn Adidas!" bandwagon over some alternates. So what's with the poor quality material? I've never noticed anything abnormal from the jerseys that they use all season long. No rips, or tears. The jerseys still seem tight fitting too. I don't like Nike's "sweatboxes"
  13. Let's just say watching GT is a hell of a lot more exciting to watch. There's something absolutely fantastic about watching pulling linemen sprint their way down field to make a block on the second level. The motions are utilized in a way where you could pitch a rocket sweep or utilize it as a speed option also. There's so much going on with TE's, HB's, and FB's with their ability to block, run a route or run with the ball. You're actually watching all the working parts of football since it appears everyone has a role. I know everyone has a role on every play, but 5 step drops get a bit boring. Lineman just go into pass pro (don't get me wrong though, route concepts excite me too, as well as how they work in certain coverages). It's like having the opportunity to watch the inside of an internal combustion engine work to get a car up to 45 mph. When you're watching the engine, it looks great, you see things moving in a well engineered and timely matter. You want to watch it again, in slow motion to get a real feel for how well it works. But I don't know. GT is good. You know they have to be getting the top QB recruits for that offense. I love watching Justin Thomas run that offense. He runs it as well as anyone I have seen. But his passing is nowhere near what we had in Tommie, Frost, Crouch, etc. If Thomas is the top QB prospect, I don't know if that's good enough. GT has only been better than "good" last year because of Thomas. Every year before they were 8-9 wins that we are already familiar with. And Johnson is possibly the best of the best at running that type of offense in today's game. I'd love to see it. But I don't see it happening. We already had a pretty darn good "running based" attack on offense with Beck that had a lot of those elements. He just happened to call the stretch play way too often... haha.
  14. I'm already over him... Clogged up some meaningful discussion debating over the intricacies of the misspelling of Saban and telling us we all lived in our mother's basement playing D&D. Get it right dude! I play Settler's of Catan!
  15. I LOVE Adidas. I mean, LOVE the brand. I own numerous pairs of Adidas shoes. I have always loved the way the 3 strips look on shoes. That being said, the fact that they fail so tremendously with football (and basketball) is beyond me. Truth be told, I thought the Black jerseys for the UCLA game were nice. They were bold enough to be different, but understated enough to not be "doing too much". Last year though? They were bad. The reflective numbers were not good. But I will say that I love the replica's they sold. I bought one for my son, and honestly, it looks great. Of course, it's without the chrome numbers, which works. He also doesn't wear the helmet too... I also like the t-shirts they made for the game. The 125th season patch is nice too. I have a t-shirt of that logo blown up. Graphically, I like it. But the actual jerseys, helmets, and pants. Ugh. I hope they turn it around, but it seems like they won't. Our standard jerseys are great though. I don't know how I would feel about the collar the Nike has on their jerseys. Not a fan.
  16. Ha! Funny list. Who was our kicker in 2006 when we decided to punt instead of try the long fg try in the Cotton Bowl? I don't think it was Henery...
  17. Admittedly, I was not initially happy with the hire. I was getting my haircut and I was just in a crazy frenzy talking about how much I don't know about the guy. My barber then told my boss (who also gets his haircut there) that I was going crazy and actin' a fool! Anyway, I came back and immediately started mourning our inability to get David Shaw (who was my #1 choice). I was thinking "man, we should've did what Bama. They did whatever it took to get Saban. Same with OSU getting Urban Meyer. Why could we do that?" I then randomly googled "Best coaches in college football". What I found was this list. http://www.nfl.com/photoessays/0ap2000000360745 Surprised to see Riley there at #14. After that, I felt like there was something to it, and after learning about the guy I felt better. What I think really makes me like the guy is the staff. Say what you want about Riley, this staff is crazy experienced. I think that might be the most impressive of this. We aren't seeing a golf coach, or a guy who really just wants to be a minister. We are seeing guys who are crazy passionate about the sport, and their prospective positions. That to me says a lot! I am still skeptical. But if they can coach these kids to make less mistakes. That right there makes us a better team. Also, Dude what are you taking about!?!? DIAMOND FORMATION = TOUCHDOWN FORMATION!!!

Can we hear about any weaknesses the kid has? I can only assume his long ball isn't quite a strength only due to the fact that I haven't seen it, and his long TD passes aren't very long at all. What about the kid makes BYU fans nervous? Heck, what about BYU makes you guys nervous?
  19. I don't want to toot my own horn here (just kidding, yeah I totally do... But I'll limit it because I've been wrong on soooo many more things...) but I did say this back in February... PAT ME ON THE BACK EVERYONE! http://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/74242-riley-on-quarterback-competition/

The best way to see how well he throws is by watching him. I just watched highlights from the Texas game. It looks like his short passes and medium passes are pretty accurate, they seem to be his strength and they call the game that way. It looks like he throws well on the run, although he takes some risks there. His long passes are almost non-existent, and the one long pass shown was into double coverage, and ended up being a great catch by the WR. Of course, it looks like their game plans for him don't include long passes. It shows with his stats above too, his longest for those 4 games are 35, 27, 38, and 56. The BYU offense seemed to do just fine without them those 4 games. For this game, he was 18/28 181 yards passing 0 TD's 1 INT. Rushed 24 times for 99 yards and 3 TD's. His running ability is scary. He's not crazy fast, but he is fast, and his ability to get out of the pocket is scary. Admittedly, I haven't had a chance to watch BYU much. Keep in mind that this is also a highlight video. Something that annoys me about them is that we don't get to see incompletions, INT's, and other negative things. Maybe I'll find some time to watch the full game, but man does Texas look terrible in that video. Their offense was junk.

HA! Truth be told I'm allergic to seafood. I just don't understand the correlation between "Red Lobster" and "Moronic Idiot". My brother-in-law loves their shrimp. He is also a football coach... I am SO confused!

I literally can't help you with any of the stuff you mentioned. But if you want some advice on being a decent person to other people I would gladly help ya out. What's wrong with Red Lobster?

Some people are just fans- they should stay that way When they try and talk the game- they just end up looking silly The defensive schemes guys run dont matter- that just isnt true, football 101 stuff Lots of the same people who were very critical of Bos scheme ( i was too) against the run, seem to not have the same standard when looking at Bankers schemes track record against the spread passing game Scheme matters Who said scheme doesn't matter? Attacking the general population football fan doesn't make one a better football fan. Nor does it make one insanely more intelligent than another. Let's just remember that Kevin Cosgrove is by far smarter than the whole lot of us when it comes to football. Yet my mother, whom I can thank for making me a Husker football fan, probably couldn't tell you the difference between PI and Defensive Holding. Yet, in my mind, she is more passionate about football. (If you're reading this, I love you mom). Listen, there are times when a lot of us get a tad bit annoyed at someone whom doesn't know what they are talking about. Yet, we understand the need to nuance our annoyance and keep the discussion productive by either ignoring them, or actually telling them they are wrong in a way that is informative and far from insulting. I can tell you, that you hold little respect from me personally. You could be the smartest man in the world, you could have the strongest sense and knowledge of football and be the best at (insert something awesome here). Yet your insulting and personal attacks on many whom have generated a lot of great discussions on this board for years is disgusting. Also, your insults are honestly, just unfunny, not creative, contrived and just plain lame. Come up with something better than "Mom's basement" and "get your GED".
