  1. This was covered earlier in the post. By a pretty cool guy I might add. Many things are different now than they were ten years ago Except for the main part, where we are the only school in history to fire a 9 win coach, which lead to a near apocalypse, and now we are discussing doing it all over again. Ohio St. waves hi. They are even waving with the hand that holds the title rings they had to buy for themselves.
  2. There's an entire thread dedicated to your question.....including some numbers breakdowns about the miniscule number of programs who have won at least 9 games the past 5 seasons. And nice job of not tearing down Bo, then tearing down Bo.
  3. Let me make something crystal clear. I'm not fine with 9 win seasons. I look forward to conference championships and national title hunts. What I am impressed with is that Pelini has come in and accomplished what he did....as in consistently winning 9 games and getting to bowls after Callahan had losing seasons in 50% of his tenure here. Pelini changed that immediately. Then, the learning curve started. Recruiting suffered, and I would be the first to say Pelini's inexperience was the primary factor in this. Our defense struggled the past couple of years because of a talent issue......then injuries made that talent gap even wider by late in the season. Most of us fully understand how important both sides of the LOS are. The depth and lack of drop-off on our offensive line is impressive right now. The way we ran the ball on Michigan State is impressive. Period. Our defensive line once again has NFL caliber talent at more than one position. So even while maintaining consistency at 9+ wins, Pelini has built depth and greatly improved our talent level. Pelini has his sights set on bigger things than 9 wins, but it's impressive that Nebraska hasn't had the erratic nature in the W/L column that over 115 of the other D1 programs have endured.
  4. Since your post started out about Ohio State's schedule......and we are in the same conference as Ohio State......is this really a difficult "guess"? If we replace Pelini, then we do. I highly doubt that's the plan because recruits continue to commit to us even now. I find it unfortunate that some look for reasons to be critical of Pelini....even in his successes.....rather than have the optimism that he's working on correcting weaknesses and trying to get this program to the next level. Like EZ-E wrote elsewhere, 9 win seasons are meaningless......until they go away.
  5. At our watch site in Denver, most people in the room were expressing exactly this. We have built depth on our offensive line and our skill positions are talented. An excitement has developed now when our defense comes on the field. We are communicating.....and we are active and athletic. Continuity in our coaching staff is important right now.....we have the talent.
  6. I disagree, with 2003 Nebraska, Oklahoma, LSU, and 2009-2010 Nebraska as my evidence. Where Bo seems to be lacking is sharpening his players into mental and emotional consistency in preparation for playing football. I disagree, with multiple lapses on defense, 6 of 10 worst defensive performances all time, multiple blowouts, players throwing their hands up looking confused, countless numbers of times hearing of talented guys not getting time due to the mental aspect of the scheme (CJ being the latest victim), countless times where either adjustments were not made or players were not able to execute it, and a Head Coach who as of the last two years has almost seemingly said himself he doesn't know why the guys aren't executing what they are coaching. If the HC says, we are teaching them and they just aren't executing it, is that not by definition something being lost in translation somewhere? It is the definition, thats rhetorical question. I'm trying to be polite about it bud but if you want to use your positives over the last few years to counter my point, you will realize there are just as many negatives to come right back with. CJAX isn't playing because Alexander and CC have been playing very well. Deal with it. Maybe CJAX is the next Thenarse. This. Alexander has come on strong.
  7. Interesting to see how that goes with USC playing much better recently. Do they keep Orgeron (sp?), especially if Del Rio isn't available for awhile? Not sure how that works if he's the DC on a team that is likely to be playing well in to January. IMO if you think Del Rio is the guy you have to think long term and make that hire. Give Orgeron a fat raise to stick around as D-line coach/ace recruiter(possible DC?) and ride things through to ease the transition and help save this recruit class. Yeah, the question really isn't on USC's part. The question is, how do you get him out of Denver when he's the DC of a team that has the look of a Super Bowl contender? Most college coaching changes are made right after the regular season and try to have the replacement on board as soon as possible so they can work on as many recruits as possible. USC's last game is Nov. 30 or perhaps the next week if they make the CCG. Denver's regular season goes until Dec. 29 and then however far they go into the playoffs but that is getting pretty close to NSD. and now it's even more complicated as Del Rio is Denver's interim Head Coach and they don't know when Fox will be back. I'm just not sure how they can make the logistics of all that work out. I really don't see Del Rio coaching college. He will have a HC job in the NFL again soon enough. This is a good point. I think if there is a college job he'd look at, it would be his alma mater....and they have the resources. He hasn't said no yet, at least not publicly that I'm aware of.
  8. ^ This 1,000 times over! +1! The "9 wins a year" can only be part of the argument for or against Bo depending on where you stand. What beanman has listed here is first of all helpful research, but more importantly offers a better argument IF you want to compare what Bo Pelini has done at Nebraska to what Tom Osborne did during his career. Yes, we have won at least 9 wins every year under Bo Pelini, and yes, we have gone to a bowl game ever year under his watch, and he should be commended for that. However, when you compare our Top 25 rankings to Osborne's it's not even close. Under Pelini we are barely a bottom Top 25 team. At least under Osborne we were consistently in the Top 15...we were at least in the conversation year-after-year as being one of the best teams in the country. And we were rarely blown out during games. We were for the most part, almost always competitive in nearly every game we played under Osborne. You can't say that about Pelini's Nebraska teams to this point...you just can't. Nebraska fans want to win at least 9-10 wins every year, we all know that. But more importantly we want to be competitive, we want to be a part of the national discussion for being one of the Top 15 teams, and we DO NOT want to be consistently embarrassed on the national stage. The 9+ win seasons are not to compare Pelini to Osborne. The Nebraska Cornhuskers that Tom Osborne took over had won back to back national championships. Pelini took over a train wreck and has consistently won 9+ games. That's why the 9 win seasons are good. I use the Osborne comparisons for what can happen when a coach is stuck with, as opposed to this carousel of the past 15 or so years.
  9. That is the key in my opinion and our staff has worked hard to do what I call "out-evaluate" the other coaching staffs. Very much agree. This is how we got, and will hopefully continue to get, the Abdullah's and Moss'.

Del Rio They've already interviewed him if the internet is to be believed. I'd be surprised if it wasn't Orgeron at this point. I don't think the locals will approve of that. But I'm fine with it. Won't be the sexy hire that helps them much with recruiting. They're pretty happy with last Saturday..... But I don't think a Del Rio hire as any sexier than O. The common sense among the press is tht Ed has earned it. Which of course means dick. I don't know USC, but my guess is an alum with NFL pedigree who wants the job would be given a strong look.
  11. That's a couple of weeks old. Muschamp is not on the hot seat. Strong suspicion Pelini isn't either. It has our updated record on there. The list itself is not new.....it was posted somewhere on here previously. Foley has said Muschamp is fine.

I have no direct sources of what USC might do other than the knowledge Del Rio has interviewed and he has not made it public in Denver that he plans to stay put....and people want to know. LA Times is fine, but I'm not a fan of the credibility of newspapers during speculative times. I think there are more reliable sources. Admittedly though, I don't care much about what USC does.

  15. You will not find a single post where I've said Osborne sucked and it's unfortunate you would take that from what I wrote. I'm not concerned about what people from other Big 10 schools think, but consider me skeptical any other school worries about what Nebraska deserves. I am not in favor of sticking with Pelini out of fear. I am in favor of sticking with Pelini because he's successful.....and we've seen what the results can be of sticking with a coach versus being a coaching carousel. No, we've seen what the results can be of sticking with a coaching staff. We had lots of years of experience with Osborne's staff. Unfortunately we seem to change someone every year here. It's a different business these days and as soon as we start having consistent success (if we see it) we'll lose more guys. I agree. Tom was his own OC and McBride got plenty of criticism before the five year run. The point being the method which produced the results we are so fond of.

  17. I think our current recruiting commits are an indicator of Pelini's return.
  18. And what would potential coaching candidates think with this situation in mind?

  20. I am fully aware that more games are played now. The 9+ win seasons are not made to compare Pelini to Osborne. They are made to compare Pelini to other coaches during his 5.5 year tenure at Nebraska. An amazingly low number of coaches have accomplished it. Minimize it all you like. I am very very confident it is not minimized by the athletic director. The comparisons to Osborne have much more to do with the results of sticking with a successful coach and allowing him to try to get to the next level. Tom Osborne took over a team that had just won back to back national titles.....yet over the next 8 years we had more than one blowout loss to Oklahoma, did not consistently win our 8 team conference and did not win another national championship for over 20 years.
  21. Yes, there is a big difference in tenure.
  22. Art Briles staying put at Baylor for the foreseeable future.
