  2. We'll have more movement when we start playing again. I think the yardage given up is more of a thing for those on this board who care about it. There is plenty of yardage.....and points.....being given up by other teams. Michigan and Texas A&M come immediately to mind.
  3. We did begin to drop off under Solich, though maintaining what we did in the 90's would be a tall order for anyone.....perhaps even a tall order for Osborne to maintain. With that said, Solich did not miss a bowl or have two losing seasons. And to Pelini's credit, he took over our program that had two losing seasons in the previous five and has done very well. We won 9 the year before Callahan and again the year after......losing records and missed bowls are on Callahan.
  4. I agree with this. As usual, Mark Richt and the Georgia Bulldogs are underperforming. Florida is a very beatable team. Missouri's wins, while good, are nothing to drop one's jaw about.
  5. If the offensive line continues the way it is, then yes. Our offense has looked fairly smooth with the two backup quarterback system.
  6. What Armstrong has done well is play within the offense. Pelini has talked about trying to instill in Martinez that every play doesn't need to be a home run. We have enough weapons on offense that if the quarterback position can move the chains and avoid turnovers, we can be in good shape offensively.
  7. I was excited to have an experienced returning senior quarterback. As I've written before, I believe turnovers are one of the key things, if not the key thing keeping our offense from taking the next step. In two of the first three games, I was disappointed with red zone turnovers and second half production vs UCLA.
  8. Yes, and Martinez has been known for his passing ability, right? I understand it may be too early to know much, but have you seen Armstrong fumble on contact or throw those awkward looking pitches on the option?
  9. You're not talking about the defense now, after those points were refuted. If you're going to cherry-pick drives and claim that, in ineffective drives Martinez was ineffective, then you're going to be right 100% of the time. But you don't get to pick and choose some drives and not others. You want to conveniently forget that Martinez led Nebraska on scoring drives to give Nebraska 37 points and a 16-point lead with 5:26 remaining in the Wyoming game, and he led them to an 18-point lead against UCLA on three fantastic TD passes. I can play that game, too: If you take away all of Tommy's & RKIII's scoring drives, both have been completely ineffective. Bring on Ryker Fyfe!!! I wasn't talking about the defense because this thread and topic is about Martinez and Armstrong. And of course I "cherry picked"......because I am specifically referring to the times when Martinez was ineffective. Therefore, those times must be "cherry picked". Armstrong had 3 picks yesterday. Not good, but we've got to get him game experience......including on the road. At the end of the day, I am tired of Martinez' turnovers. Our offense has looked more ineffective than it should with Martinez in there this season.
  10. Taylor's two turnovers mean nothing if the defense doesn't quit against Wyoming. Taylor gave that same defense an 18-point lead against UCLA. Nothing Taylor would have done - short of doubling his already great day after getting injured - would have won that game. Keep trying these leaps of logic. It's entertaining watching it crash. I'm not here for "jabs".......and I fully understand and am completely aware of our defenses struggles. The subject here was not the defense, it is the underperformance of the offense with Martinez at quarterback. Two specific examples this season are the two turnovers in the Wyoming game and our 3Q inefficiency in the UCLA game. Again, I'm not talking about the defense.....this thread and my post are about my preference of Armstrong over Martinez.
  11. Our offense didn't go three-and-out before Wyoming's final two TDs in that quarter. Seriously - what games are you watching? Correct, the offense did not go three and out before the Cowboys two TDs in the fourth.......but Martinez turned it over twice. The three and outs were saved for 3Q UCLA when we desperately needed a first down.
  12. Armstrong does have more INTs this season than Martinez, from this game alone. I still think Armstrong may have a better pocket presence and doesn't seem to fumble on contact. It may have been because of his injury, but the Wyoming and UCLA games did not look like we had a 4 year starter behind center.
  13. I'm good with Armstrong. First game on the road and his passing game wasn't great. Three picks is not good....Martinez has certainly been there. I'm still more confident in Armstrong hanging on to the ball in the option game. When Armstrong was tagged on the LOS, he hung on to the ball. I don't have that confidence in Martinez.
  14. Good defensive tackles will help either and any coordinator, including Pelini or McBride. The entire DL was NFL caliber in the mid 90's.....Peter bros, Wistrom, Tomich.
  15. We certainly must keep improving on the defensive side of the ball. We are seeing some improvement each game and find the Huskers currently ranked 6th in INTs, 31st in sacks/game and 27th in TFL.
  16. Athlon Sports named John Papuchis Big 10 Coordinator of the Week.
  17. I have no problem saying Martinez has given Wisky....and other teams......fits. My perspective is for us to take the next step, perhaps especially in "big" games, the turnovers have to stop......and Martinez has consistently struggled in that statistical category.
  18. Even with 5 INTs in 3 games? Too bad, out of those 5 INT's, we didn't have a defense that could prevent them from turning into scores, hell they couldn't stop a regular drive from scoring. To blame those games solely on Martinez is utterly ridiculous. Didn't blame the losses solely on Martinez. 5 INTs in 3 games is still tough to overcome.
  19. Turnovers are a key statistic to any and every game......winning the turnover battle. Our defense needs to create turnovers and our offense needs to avoid them. Turnovers are a fair criticism of Martinez.
  20. The ranking was great, except it didn't take into account the loss of a DT by the CCG. Meredith was the best available option. Combine that with our slow LBs and it's a recipe for disaster around the LOS.
