  1. They didn't forget. They are simply not as good as the names above.
  2. I posted this in another thread several weeks ago, but I'll also post it on this thread. We've had 5 or more players selected in the NFL draft only three times since 2000. They were 2001, 2004 and 2011. From 1990 through 1999, there was not a single year we had less than five players selected.
  3. This. Coaches definitely make a difference. But they can also only do so much. If you can't get yourself fired up to play at this level, there's really nothing the coach can do on that front. You can get someone like Cameron Meredith or Will Compton as fired up as you want. If they don't have the physical tools and ability, they just don't. For being a senior, Jason Ankrah's career sack numbers are head scratchingly low.
  4. Or one could say the coach who recruited that player could be to blame. What kind of player are you looking for when you're recruiting someone? Besides someone who is talented obviously. Being a coach at this level has many challenges......lest we forget Pelini sent two defensive players packing this past offseason for off the field issues. Based on what happened, both of them may have had a "nasty" streak to them.
  5. I think our NFL draft picks over the past 25 years can be a general indicator of talent level. Those numbers are telling. If we are "loaded", it's our underclassmen. Do you think any seniors on defense other than Baptiste might get their name called? Ankrah? Randle? Umm, no. We are not loaded.
  6. I know, right? Twice in 310 posts in this thread. That's insane!!!! Ha! This thread and the 3000 other threads that start off talking about your favorite Blackshirt of all time, your favorite cereal, your grandmas blue hair dye, or your favorite pair of shoes and yet somehow all end up questioning Taylor Martinez in some way or another. The same way a turnover can change a game.
  7. He can be. I wish he could have been one in the second half against UCLA when we desperately needed a 3rd down conversion.
  8. The article seems pretty spot on to me. It's about Jimmys and Joes. Urban Meyer warned everyone in the Big 10 they better pick up their recruiting.
  9. Wyoming and UCLA are tough non conference opponents Are you being funny, or do you mean it. Personally I think UCLA is looking very good we will see though. Wyoming is looking way better than I thought. I think 8-4 at the worst for them. I live in mt West Country they look as good as anyone. For me it really is just a matter of BP putting the D in a position to be successful and they will pick up confidence and get better. Again they are not going to be elite but they can be serviceable. I am being serious. I live in Colorado and also have familiarity with Mountain West teams. Wyoming is a very good squad, and UCLA is climbing in the polls. And I'm with you....I'll let others hack on Pelini....as he figures out these puzzle pieces I think we'll be just fine on defense.

  11. Wyoming BECAME nip and tuck at the end due to our turnover machine at quarterback. We had a nice lead and were getting ready to expand it. That INT he threw was more on the WR than Taylor. Rich Fisher was quoted saying Burtch did not run the wrong route.....but hey, I'm only quoting the receivers coach. Of course he was going to say that. He is the WRs coach. If Fisher was wrong, another coach would have said something.

  13. I'm glad you put probably in parenthesis......Wyoming is a good squad. We continue to be their only loss and they continue to hang some points.....they put 56 on Air Force this past Saturday on the road.

  15. I don't think it's any mystery that experience and talent are two different things. We have some experience, but that experience is not producing the numbers we need it to at those spots.
  16. I would spend about 2 seconds or less being concerned about ESPN and what they need to do for ratings.
  17. Yes....noticed this also. A camera showed Pelini in the middle of the defensive huddle on the sideline on at least two different occasions, as well as individually coaching Baptiste, Gerry and Rose. I think that Bo realizes the D is porous at best and horrific at best. UCLA showed everyone how to beat us last year and teams continue to pull our LB's out with motion and attack the middle with ease. Announcer after announcer has pointed this out. Bo and NU's only hope is to slow this. I feel we are too far gone to stop it, but cutting a teams yrds from 500 to 300 is a start. Our O, if they played like yesterday (ie Beck calls a great game) we should outscore anyone left, BUT D has to at least make opponents work for it. I liked Bo's comments about attitude. It shows that film shows it is not scheme, but attitude and effort (motor). Peter, Wistrom, etc had a motor that wouldn't stop and a kill or be killed mentality. this carried over to both sides of the ball and to all the team. We need this. Unfortunately, it is not something that can be taught or coached IMO. Guys either have it or don't. I am unsure how Bo can get these guys to develop this nasty attitude needed to be able to manhandle their OL opponent, get off the block and plant the ball carrier. Bo's teams in the past have had this. Super D, the Bullocks, SUH, Crick, Assante, Haag etc........ How did he get these guys to play nasty? That is what he needs to find. Coaching the guys on the side, IMO, showed that he realized (finally) Paps does not have the ability to coach on the fly or adjust. Good for us. Just unsure if bo can get this corrected in 2 weeks with little to no help. (Kaz or Joseph maybe?) The saving grace is we have a few "easier" (depends if we crap ourselves again) before NW comes to town. Agreed. I'm not concerned with what the announcers are saying, but at the end of the day it's like Pelini said in his presser.....it's aggressiveness and urgency. Pelini needs to keep a focus on recruiting talent. I think he's done much better the past two seasons in that regard. And I agree with you about the scheme being fine.....let's get that nastiness and aggressiveness.
  18. Good test time now for Coach K. Pelini was critical of DL shedding blocks in post game presser.
  19. After seeing K-State get beat by NDSU and Michigan eek past both Akron and Connecticut, I'm not concerned it was "just" South Dakota State. The problem is, you are assuming that Michigan is good. They are not...They are very lucky that they are not already a 3 loss team. I don't think Michigan or K-State is very good this season.....and that's not the point I was making.

  21. Listen to Pelini's post game presser. You might find it beneficial.
  22. I am quite certain Pelini is ignoring the problem and pretending it doesn't exist. It's not like his post game presser yesterday was about the defensive struggles.
