  1. I don't always have the beard.
  2. We already have a controversy. We've had it for 3 years now. Martinez's starting job has been as secure as any QB in the country the past two years.... I don't know where you're coming from.... It's been a small controversy. Only a few of us cool people were in on it until this season.
  3. Absurd. No matter what the stats say. I agree. To call him a dual threat QB is absurd. Look, I just don't think he's a good QB. I have nothing against him personally. I just think we will be MUCH better off when he leaves the QB spot. IMO, the longer the ball is in TM's hands during a game, the worse off we are.
  4. We already have a controversy. We've had it for 3 years now.
  5. Just watching the spring game, Tommy looks more like a natural QB than TM.
  6. Nebraska up 21-3 has only to keep doing what it was doing to win that game. You sound as if this UCLA victory was inevitable at all times in the game - and it very clearly wasn't. Down 18, UCLA needed Nebraska to collapse to win that game. Nebraska obliged. This mantra you keep selling that UCLA's athletes were clearly superior to Nebraska's is false. The teams are pretty evenly matched athletically. Exactly. UCLA didnt and doesnt have superior athletes to NU. They are right about even across the board. UCLA is a good team but they aren't as superior as Bruins fans beleive them to be. I wish your team luck the rest of the year but the arrogance is getting a bit old. To go along with the OP, one area UCLA is obviously superior is coaching. I would trade Nebraska's entire staff for theirs. If I took the time to look through the newspaper archives, I could find at minimum 3 times that Beck has apologized for not doing what he should have done during a game. Maybe he is Captain Hindsight, but it is getting old. Watson 2.0 You think he should blame the players instead? C'mon. Either way you'd be pissed.
  7. I'd say it was better than watching our 5th year senior crap his pants the first 3-4 series.
  8. Martinez is not a dual threat QB. His running has been subpar for the last 3 years and his passing has always been suspect. He just doesn't have it. No matter what the stats say.
  9. Other Husker records not having to do with longevity: #1, #4 & #8 Total Offense Seasons #3 & #7 Passing yard seasons #3, #7 & #8 Total Offense in a game #9 Passing yards in a game Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Overall Total Offense in a season Total Offense TDs in a season Freshman and Sophomore Total Offense records for a game Freshman, Sophomore and Junior Passing yards in a season Freshman passing yards in a game Completion % in a game (min. 10 attempts) Rushing yards by a QB in a game Rushing TDs by a QB in a game Not bad for a QB? He started the year as the #8 career rusher at Nebraska for any position and, if he stays healthy, will very likely be at least #3 after the year and maybe #2. Actually most of those are longevity related. Especially the freshman and sophomore records. I, personally, would also throw the passing records in there, but that's just me.
  10. With Bo's job on the line the foolishness of Bo making Martinez play hurt are over. You forget Martinez was once a freshman with no meaningful snaps. What do you do next year when Martinez isn't here anymore and all your qb's have seen snippets of action? There is a reason why our backups leave because no matter what Bo plays Martinez no matter what. Have you ever had turf toe? I have. Re-read my post. I said if we handle bizness backups will be in by the 3rd anyway. If Martinez gets hurt worse, you get your wish of having plenty of time to groom unproven backups. As far as a once unproven Martinez getting thrown in? Who else did we have? Lee WAS NOT BO's PLAYER. GREENE WAS NO GOOD. He hitched his wagon to taylor and all Taylor has done is break all the records and take us to 2 CCG. Is he the best player God created? NO. But he's better (especially given all that has gone on this week) to lead the team. We have a bye next week. If we handle business, he won't be in past halftime anyway. I don't think he is the leader this team needs right now.
  11. Those stats don't tell the whole story do they? Martinez may have the numbers, but I would say he is no better than the 11th best QB we've had at BEST.
  12. I completely agree. TA looks like a natural on the field thus far. If he doesn't start this weekend or get 90% of the snaps, Pelini needs to go. I like your style man! Why not hold BP fully accountable? And you even let me get away with calling Wyoming's a "top QB." Also before I am accused of attacking TM, for the record I love all the guts and effort this kid has given for NU. I'm just being a realist and my criticism is based only on his quality (or lack there)of play. There is no rationale reason why I would "have it in." for TM personally, I don't. I'd trade Martinez for Smith in a heartbeat. I too appreciate the passion of TM. I have not been a fan of his decision making on the field first and foremost, and I have wanted him replaced for 2 years now. It's nothing personal with me either, I just don't like him as a QB. Now, Mr. Armstrong on the other hand.... like Terrell Newby, looks like a natural. He just has that "it" factor. I don't know how to explain it other than that.
  13. I think that is one of Martinez' biggest weaknesses. I also don't think he is our best QB. I would put that on Tommy right now.
  14. Played a little against Southern Miss. Ran the option with authority. Not afraid to lower shoulder. Didn't throw, but rumor is he has a cannon for an arm. Staff has said he is a natural leader and the "it" factor. He passes the eyeball test. Appears to have the swagger needed at the position. Will be interesting to see of he oes Sat. Knee was a little slow to rehab. Glad he got action last week to test it out. Welcome o the board. This. He is exactly what this offense needs IMO. He brings electricity to this offense because he is quick elusive and a leader. If Beck wants a run-first offense then he is our guy. If he wants a pass first then RKIII is our guy from what i've seen. But I have heard TA also has a cannon. Perfect time for him to get some experience and to see the future of our offense. All the top QBs can make something out of nothing like the Wyoming guy and Hundley just did to us. Manzell would be the extreme example, that guy is amazing with those quick feet and elusiveness. You don't see him whining about the offensive line, he just refuses to be sacked or beaten on any play. Defenders will beat a block multiple times over the course of a game and the QB can never let one man take him down. TA showed that type of ability on film, and it is the very definition of the leadership you need at QB. It sets the tone for the entire team, vs. curling in a ball and being sacked, or trying futilely to run to the outside and not making it. I completely agree. TA looks like a natural on the field thus far. If he doesn't start this weekend or get 90% of the snaps, Pelini needs to go.
  15. Hitting the defense where they aren't is the entire philosophy of option football. If defense goes here, you keep it, if defense goes here, you pitch it. Rinse repeat, add fullback and PA and you're done!
  16. I think Bo has a chance to right the ship, but I don't think he will pull it off. I think we see at least one or two more implosions this season. And I don't think he will make the one change I think will help us the most.
  17. As a TM detractor, I am very excited about the possibility of Tommy playing significantly this weekend. If we blowout SDSU with Armstrong starting we have us a real QB controversy that I think will end well for us if Armstrong prevails.
  18. I just started coaching my girls U10 soccer team. I know what you mean about the standings and pride and not telling them. I think I'm having more fun than they are! Congrats!
  19. if martinez is legitimately hurt, then it will be tme. hurt or not bo would be smart to see what he has in Armstrong this season. Doubt that happens cause Bo is too stubborn. For all we know Armstrong could run this offense better than Martinez but we won't know for sure. I know for sure. Martinez is killing us. Armstrong would be a big step up. Just in the smarts department it would be a 1078% upgrade.
  20. Martinez has been an atrocious running QB since his sophomore season. He runs up to defensive players like a kid running to his parents after coming home from a 4 week summer camp. He stands up just as he's about to be hit, which makes it even worse. He needs to never play QB again.
