  1. A lot is being made of Armstrong's gameday experience, but given he's had so much experience, I would have expected him to look substantially better than all other QBs. Instead, he looked just ok to me, and if Armstrong did not have the gameday experience, would he even be #2 on the depth chart? While the coaching staff cannot discount his leadership role he's had on the team, I do think they have to look seriously as his skills as a passer, and given he's entering his 3rd year of playing at the collegiate level, if he doesn't have the skills by now, I'm not sure he's going to get them.
  2. I agree with most on here that, if you are looking for a true and pure QB, Darlington looks like the guy. He's smart, has good technique and touch, and seemed to fit well into the system. He may not be the tallest guy or have the strongest arm, but that didn't seem to stop someone like Drew Brees either. With some good depth at WR and RB, we do NOT need a QB that is a runner first. We need a QB that can make the throws and run when needed to keep the defense honest. To me that is where Darlington excelled today. Armstrong looked the same as last season, and I honestly didn't see any growth in him. Bush was disappointing for his first showing.
  3. A couple of observations about Peters. 1. While we don't know how aggressively our staff was after him, it's apparent that Harbaugh went all in once his top QB choice turned him down in favor of Stanford. The sting of losing your top choice makes most coaches eager to fill the void quickly. 2. If Peters was NU's top choice and just lost out on him, will our coaching staff become more aggressive now too with their other options. Hopefully we'll get some clues soon. 3. As we see from year to year, any recruitment is not over until signing day. If I were Riley and company, I would not stop pursuing Peters just as Harbaugh kept coming after our recruits. Even if we are on the outside looking in, strange things start to happen when football is played, and if Michigan struggles at all this coming season, some of their recruits may think twice.
  4. I think there are a lot of good QBs, but I really like what I've seen from this guy's film. Given we didn't take any QB this year, maybe we can take this guy and one of the good in-state QBs (like Ellsworth).
  5. We've gone from hiring a defensive coordinator as our head coach to hiring a defensive coordinator as our DB coach. Things indeed are on the upswing in Husker-land.
  6. Has anyone started a thread on Christian Ellsworth, an in-state QB that appears to have good size and stats? http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1645996/highlights/192305376/v2
  7. JH brought in six 4 stars in this class. Nebraska only has three 4 stars in this class. The numbers may be low for Michigan in this class, but they have quality. I argue that the Michigan class is better than Nebraska's Of course he did. He's Jim Harbaugh, and that name alone will be enough to stockpile his 2015, and 2016 classes with highly rated players... If I was a recruit, he would have to make me feel comfortable about his longevity. I'm just not convinced he will be there very long. I would also argue that Michigan in general is more inclined to attracting 4* recruits as there are many more populous states surrounding it than Nebraska. When Hoke was around, I believe he got more 4*s than Pelini despite Hoke not being a great coach. It's no different than many of the SEC schools having an easier time landing 4* recruits due to geography. That is what Riley is going to try and help fix for 2016 and beyond. I think the goal for NU given its geography should be a top 20 class year in and year out. That should be enough talent to win championships with.
  8. I've tried to help you out with advice. Try not to get so B-H over these kids decisions. Just let it go and move on. You will last a lot longer as a fan of recruiting if you do, otherwise you will get burnt out quick. I was the same way when I first started following it. It's not worth it. Especially on kids who never pissed on Nebraska. It was nobody's fault but our old staffs when it comes down to it. I agree the old staff blew it, but I also find it interesting that he has another high-rated QB in his same class that he chose to be a part of. If he's truly better, he will be out Gibson. Most kids are going to think that they are the "better player" no matter what the situation. Some kids don't mind having another QB in the class to compete against, while others are turned off by it and get mad when the school still recruits QB's after you give their commitment. I think it's silly for anyone to be angry at Burrow. He does have Nebraska ties, but he has lived in Ohio the past few years. Also, the old staff blew it and didn't offer him until it was too late. Oh, I'm not angry with him, and he seems to be a good kid. I'm disappointed in our prior staff, but I know that's been said many times.

  10. I find this interesting. Wasn't the thought that Meyer was able to keep Burrow because Gibson was not going to stick around? Maybe Burrow still beats out Gibson after Barrett and Jones are gone.
  11. Did he actually flip his commitment? Yes. Would have been good to have him but if we had to loose anyone, it would be him, imo. I wasn't that high on him anyway and I really didn't think we had that big of a need for another DB. Ya. bummer to lose anyone but if he is willing to flip that easily, not sure if I want anyone who flips to a school without visiting it... Doesnt make sense. Maybe he was upset that he was our backup plan to begin with, but this is the recruiting business and these things tend to happen. Also, he didn't have a long-term relationship with our staff, so the key for the 2016 season is to create the relationship early, and cultivate them throughout the season. I think it would be harder for a recruit to say no in that situation, though I realize Paulo did that with Cav.
  12. There is a lot of pressure on JH to turn the program around quickly. This is pressure he didn't have when he took over Stanford or San Francisco. Also, he doesn't have to just make them more respectable...he has to beat Ohio State. That is the threshold that any Michigan coach faces, and unless OSU loses talent soon, I think the love fest Michigan fans currently have with JH will soon disappear.
  13. Really? Stanford won 1 game the season before Harbaugh arrived......and had several losing seasons in a row prior. Umm...Stanford as an historical football program has a ..576 all time win/loss record, and had a top 10 finish in each of the past six decades. Bill Walsh and Ty Willingham both had success there in the 90s and early 2000s. Meanwhile, Oregon State is below .500 for their all time win/loss record, and had 38 straight losing seasons before Riley took over. Can you help me understand why you feel that Oregon State had a better football program history than Stanford?
  14. I think Riley has already found that recruiting at Nebraska is a heck of a lot easier, while Harbaugh will find that selling Michigan right now is not a walk in the park. In the Pac 12 JH definitely had the advantage in terms of Stanford as a football program, but also the college environment and location (compared to Corvalis). Ann Arbor certainly isn't Stanford, and Corvallis is not Lincoln. I look for Riley's approach to football, leadership, and recruiting to give him an advantage over Harbaugh in the years to come.
  15. LOL...good point. I find the Harbaugh thing interesting. He obviously knows that Riley is good at finding talent which is a big reason why he's coming after the same players. I think Harbaugh may struggle more than some think at Michigan. The Big Ten plays a totally different style of ball than the Pac 12. It's also apparent that he's not the easiest guy to play or work for, and he seems to have a bit of Pelni in him where he's more concerned about his own self-image than being the CEO and having a top staff to surround himself with. We will see, but I'm really happy with Riley and the talent of his entire staff, including the support/admin staff. Ask Richard Sherman, Doug Baldwin, or Ricardo Lockette what their thoughts of Harbaugh are. Lockette couldn't make an impact with 9ers and found his way onto a SB team making plays - sparingly but the fans love him. Harbaugh burnt bridges by bad mouthing his own players from Stanford - Baldwin and Sherman. So, here's an "NFL" coach not helping his college players make a team in the league, and that's who you want to play for?? Hmm, thanks but no thanks. That's my point. His style has now been visible for 7 or 8 years at Stanford and San Fran where the spotlight was all on the head coach. The 49ers players did not like him at all, as he treated them like children. I realize with college athletes the head coach has to put in place more boundaries, but I still see JH micromanaging his players and coaches. I think it speaks volumes that Reggie Davis chose not to join JH at Michigan and follow MR instead.

  17. Great post. Wisconsin appears to be scrambling with their coaching change, Harbaugh is offering anyone that has ever put on the uniform to get his numbers up, and Riley is running a very strategic recruiting operation positioning NU well for this recruiting season and the years to come.
  18. On the one hand, I find it puzzling that this kid would still want to work under Beck (who was terrible at developing QBs at NU), but I also understand OSU is his home team and they are national champions, so it's hard to not want to be part of that. I really think the recruitment of Burrow (or lack thereof) is just one of many reasons why Pelini should have been fired long ago. There's no guarantee he would have been a stud here (or will be at OSU), but the fact that he wanted to come here and the Pelini staff turned him away is sickening. Fortunately NU has a pretty good group of QBs with Stanton, Bush, and Darlington waiting their turn if TA and Fyfe are demoted.
  19. I read that Jalin is the #1 OG in the nation. Who was the last HS recruit we got that was number 1 in the nation at their position?
  20. I have no idea what Bo and his staff were thinking in taking a pass on this guy. Is there anyway we as fans can show him some love and let him know we would really like him to follow in his family's legacy and join Nebraska?
  21. I think the question we have to ask ourselves is...had JH not been an alum at Michigan, would he even give them the a strong look. Michigan had a unique advantage in this situation, and it's really silly to compare the two hires. Both may do well for their teams, MR could do better, or JH could do better. Three years from now is when we can really see how good both hires were.
  22. Turn in your Husker gear we don't need your negative crap. Pack up and hit the road to YSU with Bo or better yet head to Dallas and suck up to Cally. T_O_B I'll put in a few bucks for the bus fare.
  23. Well said. Typically it's the 3rd year when you can see how a coach is doing with his team, as he's had time to instill his system and get his players. While JH still did well at San Francisco, his team has gotten worse, and I think he's leaving that program in bad shape. I do think he will turn things around at Michigan. Given this guys beef with MR, it will be interesting to see if MR or JH wins a conference title first.
  24. I have no sympathy for Suh anymore. He should know better than to do these things. Hopefully this suspension will wake him up. He's really hurting his team too because of the boneheaded stuff.
