  1. Nice 4th and 1 bombs away by Purdue. Now we are in the game again. See other schools might have worse coaches!!
  2. Its on the players and the coaching staff right now. 100% on both. Mainly the defense. They are whiffing on tackles. They are in position to make a tackle for loss and whiff.
  3. Defensively, we are in position. WE are there to make the play, and just whiff, time after time. Whiff. Is that all coaching or is that want too? I am asking a serious question. To me all the coaches can do is put you in the right spot to make the play, players have to make the adjustment and tackle.
  4. At least our offense hasn't given up. Says something at least.
  5. Face the music. We need a coach who knows the tradition. Respects the tradition. I am afraid that only person who can change this is Frost, but he can't do it alone. Better bring in Turner Gill, Rathman, Fryar and ETC and rebuild the image first, then the program as a whole. Barney Cotton at least coached this team to play with pride. Pride is inner. This actually bothers me more than the coaching right now.
  6. Winning big football games.........what about winning period.
  7. The accessment was that we had as much talent as any team in the West Division. I never heard anyone say we were close to National Champ talent level. West Div, talent folks does not translate to talent. Were talking about the worst division in college football, we should have equal or more talent to them. Its not all coaching people. Coaching is some of the issue, but the players don't even have enough pride to play for themselves. Thats just what kind of players that were recruited, same players who finished last year 4-4 and started this season 3-5/6. No talent. No depth. No coaching. No heart. No support from the fan base right now. Something has to be done. Either bench entire team and play walk ons or at least Nebraska grown products with pride in the team/program.
  8. We suck. Players have plain quit, and never shown up today. Defense mainly. Offense came out at the start and did some really good things. Riker even checked down to a run play that was very successful, since that play, nothing! Riley might not be a good coach, but our players are not playing for the "N" on the helmet. This is as bothersome as losing this game. We have quit. If we don't come back, this team won't win a game this year again. Might as well stick a fork in them, their done. No matter who is coaching, what plays are being called, the players have to respond. No matter what. This team quit last year in the end, and now have quit about the same point in the season again. Overhaul the whole program. Start at the AD and work your way down. Even if it takes another season of Riles ball, it starts now with overhauling the program. Needs completely restructured, top to bottom.
  9. I suggest that if we truly want to become a threat again on the national scene, we need to move swiftly. Who is that next coach going to be and can he turn the corner. I think Riley is a decent coach, and a good guy, and so do most fans of the Big Red. Thats not reallu up for discussion. I guess i hate to see a good guy get crapped on by a spoiled bunch of fans, but at the same time, two more years of this kind of losing and this kind of playing, the program is in serious shape. Can we afford to wait two years? Can this ever turn around. Even with Bo we were treading water. The program was declining. Winning 9 games yet, but I really think the program was starting to show signs of this season coming up for Bo even. He was losing his players, and I think even some coaches were tired of his ranting and raving. Finger pointing is natural, but the decision makers at the program have failed. Epic fail. Eichorst is done. WE all know that he is out the door. Take a note from Texas on this one. They got rid of there AD right after the season started. I think we fire Eichorst now, and at least find a seasoned veteran to run this program. Even if that means keeping Riley one more year, and then moving forward. Leadership of this school and program have to change before this situation will ever redeem itself.
  10. Standards are for winning. Winning and playing for Championships. Conference titles and the occasional National title. Big 8 days are long gone. Big 12 days even seem like they were a whole generation ago already. The fear of never seeing that kind of football ever played here again is scary. The fear of becoming an average everyday college program scares everyone. We lost a legend when TO retired. We lost tradition when we left the Big 12. Now we have lost our sense of pride because we can't beat who were once bottom feeders of the Big 10. So its everyones fault who put us in this situation. Honestly, it is everyones fault. Solich should have never been fired the way he was fired. Callahan couldn't have ever came here, and that era may not have ever happened. Solich would have eventually been let go, or retired on his own. Good chance that maybe Turner Gill would have become the next head coach, and I guarantee he wouldn't have done anyworse than Callahan did. So yes there is a need to point fingers because so many things have gone wrong. So many bad decisions because we weren't winning titles. Its ironic the last conference title won was with Solich and the last National title played for was with Solich. Makes the last 12 years seem even worse.
  11. Last 8 games last year we went 4-4 and now have gone 3-5 this season to start. This team has been playing ball at a rate below .500 for a calendar year. This is no coincidence this season is going this way right now. The only real difference is we didn't have Florida Atlantic and McNeese St to start the season off. We didn't have a bad Fresno St team on the schedule on the road. This team would have and could have beat those 3 teams.
  12. (TA) Is he the best for Nebraska right now. Sure, he is all we have. What if Ryker comes out and does a nice job and we win big. Won't know anything until we play a team thats won more than 1 game if Ryker can lead better. So as far as TA being the best available this year, I would agree with that, but he is in no means a great QB. If he learns to throw the ball with some touch, then maybe he gets better. He looks out of shape and not really as fast as he was last year. Seems like he isn't or doesn't have that extra gear.
  13. I don't see us ever improving with TA as our QB. He can pass the deep ball, ok. He can scramble if needed, but won't break down the field for a 60 yard scamper and score. He can't hit wide open receivers 10 yards down the field. Throws footballs like his pitching to the Mets. Every one is a fastball. Find one area where he is better than any QB thats played here in the last 15 years? Just one area.
  14. Not Zac Lee, but Zac Taylor.
  15. Fact is this still isn't the same program it was 20 friggin years ago. It is right now at a level it hasn't been at since 1968. You could argue that team had more talent overall and desire to win. Sure we have some pieces of the puzzle here right now. Sure we have a decent group of receivers and maybe running backs. Ask yourself if TA could even carry Crouch's jock strap? Bobby Newcomb's? Jamal Lord's? Zach Lee's? He is more comparable to Tmart than most of those players.
  16. We didn't wreck Miami last year, they wrecked themselves with 4 interceptions in a close game. Northwestern this year is twice the team it was last year. Remember, if not for Ameer, McNeese St beats us last year. Bo couldn't beat Wisky, and Minnesota had Bo's number. Illinois is the only game in which I chalk up to coaching, and even thats getting harder to do. The players aren't running the right plays, and are not doing there jobs. I keep hearing run the ball more, but this offensive line isn't the 95' o-line. Its not even the 2003 offensive line. Sure wear teams out going into the 4th quarter by running. That was a great philosophy back in the day of having multiple pro caliber O-lineman. They are the ones who wore out defenses, not our fullbacks and running backs. Wake Up, this still isn't and will never be those road grader type line man here again. Those days are over. Just because we recruit player here and they wear that N on the helmet doesn't mean they are all star caliber players any more. They are leftovers that didn't get offers from other schools looking for a place to play and get a free education.
  17. I think its possible that Bo is 4-4 at this point of the season if still here. Illinois would be the only game thats different. Bo's track record against Wisky speaks for itself, same with Northwestern, Miami not much different and we all about Minnesota's record versus Bo ........I think 4-4 would be his best right now.
  18. Close game define your season.....I would agree. Last year, what if we lose to McNeese St in the first game of the season? Also a game in which should not have been close? Northwestern the hail Mary........does that team lose more games after that.....? If we contend that the games never should have been that close, then it applies even in bad wins, right? So, I would agree with that statement. If you think that is only a problem for this staff, your wrong.....Bo's teams played many games against lesser teams and had closer wins than you would realize. Sure, those games usually were won, they did define some of his seasons, but if what your thinking is that we shouldn't have even been in that position because we have better talent, wake up. The ball just bounced the right way on those days. This year it isn't, and its the same team making the same mental breakdown mistakes. Penalty yards alone in the losses, add up to at least a set of downs that should have never been played on either side of the ball. Penalty yards were and have been the issue for years now. Instead of yelling at the Refs, lets fix the issues. WE have never fixed those atittude issues for 5 years now. How many games has this cost the teams in the last few years?
  19. I hope Riker does fine. Why wish ill will upon someone who probably has more pride and knows the meaning of what a Husker is and should be. Maybe this element will outwiegh scrambling ability and make the team better. Maybe having some passion for Nebraska will be more important than completing a 20 yard bomb to gain a first down on 3rd and long........Your either on the side that wants to see the team improve or the side that thinks foolishly that if we lose to Purdue, Riley will get canned. That won't happen, so lets root for a home state guy who has dreamed of this for years. This is what makes college football special. This is what made Nebraska unique in many ways for so many years. Players with home state pride, and pride to win at all costs against all odds. This could be a win win for the coaches and players. If they dummy down the offense and run just a little bit more and throw high percentage passes, it might change the way the rest of the season plays out. Competition might make TA a better decision maker if he thinks that making a costly mistake might mean riding the pine. I think this is good timing for this injury or not.
  20. Kansas football, is well, Kansas football. Good example, they fired a coach who lead them to a BCS bowl win, and fired him because he was a prick like Bo. How much do you think they could redo that now! Rock bottom is this bunch of players might have to hit rock bottom. I would much rather see us lose games by 30 than repeatedly lose by a couple. Losing games by a few points to me is worse than losing and getting your rears kicked. This way to losing just either fortifys the coaching or the players who aren' t changing there ways. Go out and absolutely get drilled, and then, maybe our staff and players might realize what they are doing isn't working or benefitting the team. Until that happens, the coaches won't change, and the players won't improve. House of mirrors.
  21. So Einstein should have been a football coach.............? Then lets take the science teacher out of UNL class room and have him coach the team the rest of the season if smarts is all it takes. Bo might have been smart, but what was his major? I hated Bo. Respect what he did in rebuilding some of what was lost do to Callahan's lack of coaching. Admire him for trying to get things going and back to what was Nebraska Football. The thing is he didn't give a hoot about the history or tradition of this program. He was from "the Ohio State Univerisity" and I think some sense of that came up on occasion. Until this school or program brings back the history and tradition to a 100% level, your never going to get a coach and staff to buy in and sell out for the program. It take some sense of pride and pride in the name on the front of the jersey. Even though I did not like Bo, he should not have been fired in the manner he was let go. He did win games, and did keep Nebraska semi competitive against most Big 10 schools. He was falling short against the elite schools, and that was talent related and coaching related as well. His teams imploded when pushed, and so did he. I trully think that in order to get the program back to high standards, this season almost had to happen. You almost need to hit rock bottom in order to get better. This team wasn' winning the Big 10 crown this season regardless of who was coaching it. This team may not have even won the west div this year no matter who was the coach. We haven't won the West since reorganizing the divisions, so why do so many get bent out of shape when we lost 5 games already. Expectations are too high. I think those players that come back next year will have even more fuel to the fire to get better. This is a good thing most of the time.
  22. Bo was a decent coach, but couldn't bring in super talent at skill positions. How many teams have a better overall qb than Nebraska. There are alot better QB's in the nation than TA is. Ameer ended up being a diamond in the rough, and will give credit to Bo for him and Gregory, but those are only two players out of many. Looking at the talent pool right now, we are 1 deep with really good to modest talent level. Beyond that we have really nothing to choose from that wows anyone. This is the state of the program. This is on recruiting over the last 3 years or so. This is a former staffs created issue that now the current staff has to correct and coach players up that might not be coachable at this point. No one will say that Riley couldn't have done better with what he has, but no one knows that Bo would have had any better success with the current roster. You and say "run the ball more", but we have been saying that since Solich was fired. Beck/Watson/ Langsdorf all have that in common. Remember all the games that TMart just dropped back and passed alot, and he was a better runner than TA is. Tmart could go the distance, and TA a good scrambler, can't out run safety's. Can't forget that injuries have had an impact on the season and the chemistry of this season. DPE being out for the 1st half of the season, and still not appearing to be full strength, has made some things more difficult. Not having consistency in the secondary due to injuries also hampers the teams overall sense of chemistry. I do believe that not having any depth, and talented depth, has lost this team at least 2 games this season. Take your Big Red blinders off, and watch opposing teams just fly by us on certain players. Thats talent. Sure schemes put you in position to make plays, but talent finishes them off. Confidence also plays a part. This team has never had any confidence since getting drilled by Wiksy last season.
  23. I will never trust the previous staffs judgment on QB's since Tmart was qb here for 2 too many years. Ron Kellogg?
  24. By the way, stop with the disrespect towards Northwestern. They have two wins on there resume that even Ohio St and Michigan don't have. They have beaten at least two non cons rated in the top 25? Has either Ohio ST or Michigan done that yet? They had better players on the field last week. Better defensive line players and a better smarter QB who didn't throw a pick six. Keep telling yourselves that we are better than NW, and keep believing that Ozzy might come back and coach someday. Respect your opponents just a little bit, and then maybe some of these losses won't seem so impossibe to happen. The Big Red N doesn't intimidate teams like it did in the mid 90's and 80's anymore. Now we have to earn victories and earn them even against better quality teams than ours are currently.
