  1. Yeah, I noticed that, it seemed very unprofessional to me. If he was mad give him a penalty but to get up in his face that is just rediculous. Callahan is pretty mellow, for the most part on the sidelines, when you see him get that irate you can pretty much be sure that the officials missed something.
  2. FYI - I am not trying to insult or badmouth any of these players, I am just trying to point some things out, I know all these kids are working their butts off and want to succeed, but.....) F. Thomas - Obviously just not a very good lineman. He is slow and really doesn't seen to be very physical, I think with Murtha getting healthy his PT is going to drop dramatically. Seppo - This guy has really disappointed me, I know he had to make a position change in the offseason, but he has really not performed very well. He also seems to not like to get very physical and that is not good for a lineman. B. Koch - Another senior that, has been, well, subpar. I think, from what i saw this was by far his worst game. I can remember at least twice where his man just plain ran him over and put him on his back. I guess i just expect a little more from a guy that is a returning starter. G. Austin - I have a really hard time being hard on this guy. For all intensive purposes he shouldn't even be playing, the poor guy doesn't even have cartilage in his right knee. I think this fact just shows his heart and what a competetor he is, however, it is pretty evident that if we had some depth this he would probably not be starting. K. Mann - Our best lineman. I thought he had a very bad game against OU, but over the course of the year has been our most solid. He is a little undersized, but it a pretty good lineman. L. Murtha - He is young and probably not ready to be starting yet, but is proabaly going to have to. I thought after he got that first mistake out of the way, he played better thoughout the game. Overall though, with him being injured and not being full speed, basically since he got on campus, to expect him to come in and be the answer just shows our lack of depth. Like I said, I'm not saying any of this to tear these guys down, they all want to win and perform well more than any of us out here. But this is the weak spot in our team. We really don't have much depth and there is really not a whole lot the coaches or anyone can do about that. All we can hope for is that these guys continue to work hard in practice and improve as the season goes on.
  3. Did the officials cost us the game? No. Did the officials change the course of the game? Probably Did the officials suck? Yes indeed. I don't know why but officiating has been the worst this year that I have ever seen it, the big 12 in particular. The simplae fact that only ONE, yes ONE holding calls have been called on Husker opponents this season is a complete joke. I will never accuse an official of losing a game for a team, but that can change the course of one.

    WHY

I'm really not sure that benching taylor for the final three games of the season is going to make that big of a difference. Especially considering it sounds like Beck would be in, and burning his redshirt at this point if you don't have to would probably not be for the best. Taylor made some bad decisions, but he also made some very nice plays and (again) took a lot of hits. As for Lucky, with the way the o-line is playing starting him is going to make no difference. I also noticed he doesn't cut back very well (most likeyl from lack of experience and a sub par o line)
  5. That shouldn't be so funny...but it is. Lawrence could have been a great rb in the NFL, just couldn't keep his head on straight. Now he has resorted to playing pick up games with teenagers and then running them over. This dude has issues. But dang could he run.
  6. I think his biggest problem coming here would having to be compared to his dad all the time, although since he isn't highly touted perhaps this wouldn't be as bad. Either way we can use all the wr's we can get our hands on.
  7. Yeah, I think its a pretty good idea. Gets the current players to realize how important this rivalry was for so many years. Although this game may not have the aura it did in the past it is still VERY important for both of these teams. Too bad the NCAA doesn't care enough about tradition to keep some of these great rivalries going
  8. I agree Lemming is a little biased and probably not one of the better recruiting sources, he was, however, the one recruiting service that had Barry Turner rated fairly high (#5 or 6 in the nation I believe) that is the thing about these services, they can't possibly truely understand just how good each and every athlete really is, that is why it is fine to check them and read what they have to say, but take them with a grain of salt, the only real way to evaluate how good they are going to be is to let them get into the system and see how they compare to the other players on the team, then see how they progress. This is not to say these player and team rankings are worthless (I would rather have 4 and 5 star players and be in the top 10 than not) however there is no way to predict how much some players (that may have not shown "great" potential in high school) will be in college.
  9. Yup, I'll be there Saturday. I have a friend that goes to Iowa State that is coming up (don't worry he's a huge Husker fan) He came for the ISU game this year and I have to say that was one of the best atmospheres I have ever seen. Hopefully saturday will be even better Go Big Red
  10. I think it would be irresposible to not give Callahan the remainder of his contract. If nothing else recruiting has improved. I believe the quality of play has, and will continue to improve as well. Firing Callahan at this point would do nothing but hurt the program. You could see to a certain extent last year that not all players were willing to buy into a new system and were bitter about the change. Doing this for a second time would do nothing but cause more trouble. If at the end of his contract he has not shown that he is able to keep Nebraska in the top of the big 12, he will most likely be let go. But personally I believe we are on the right track
  11. I think the reason that there is not as many freshmen that are playing is that they are simply not ready. Through the emergence of these internet recruiting services, fans are able to see these high school players as they never had before. You add in the fact that someone is giving them a rating, predicting how that are going to be as a college player and you have a mess. People have unreal expectations about these kids, I'm sure many of the "high star" guys will turn out to be very good players, but many figure that just because they are supposed to be very good they will make an immediate impact. The jump to division 1 football from high school is tremendous. My main point is expecting these freshmen to have a huge impact right away is a little rediculous, they didn't give themselves the stars, some guys with a computer did, I believe many of them will turn into very good players, but just are not ready yet. As fas as getting them in for experience and "building" if they are not read outting them in and having them get beat or even hurt is going to do nothing for their confidence. Just my thoughts
  12. I agree with most of what you said, except for the not metioning a redshirt. Callahan has said over and over that he doesn't make decisions about redshirts in advance, therefore Herian's situation would be just like everyone else's. I do think he will redshirt this year and hopefully he can get back to at least 80% of what he was, because even at that he is an improvement over what we have. Also, I'm not sure of this but I believe he played as a true freshman, therefore he still has a year for a normal redshirt (all players out of high school get 5 years to play 4) But again, I'm not completely sure if he played his freshman year, but i thought I remembered that he did.
  13. Yup, both faces look pretty nice to me
  14. The way she is laying there kinda makes her look like she has a mullet Other than that, ME LIKEY!!!!!
  15. Obviously he is not up to the level that the coaches would like him to be, otherwise I would imagine he would see a lot more time. As for burning his redshirt, the wr position is one of the positions that we lack depth the most. Then you factor in Hardy, Fluellen, and LeFlore have all had injuries playing Brooks was probably more out of need than anything. The coaches may have also thought thay getting him into the game would motive him a little. From what I hear it sounds like Brooks needs to mature a little bit footballwise, I saw in an article where he himself said he doesn't practice very well. I'm sure if he can improve on this and work hard from here on out he will get some touches.
  16. I wouldn't say Grixby is a "weak" link. He is obviously at a height disadvantage but from what I have seen, he has gotten better every game. Green is a running back, we needed a corner and he was willing to go, he is a good athlete but is out of position. The fact that he is starting really shows our lack of depth at cb. Bowman has started to look like he is getting better aclaimated to d-1 ball and looks like he will be a solid guy the rest of the way. Of course, when the qb is on his back, it doesn't matter who's playing corner .
  17. Hey everyone I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks and decided I wanted N. I've enjoyed reading the comments here and am hoping to get engaged in some of the discussion. I'll tell you a little about myself (also posted in the profile sticky page) I am 20 years old and from Hastings Ne. Right now I am living in Lincoln while attending UNL. My claim to fame is that I tackled Todd Peterson in high school (a couple of times) I also gave up a grand slam to Johnny Dorn, but I don't really like to bring that up . Anyway, I am excited about the direction the program is headed and think that this staff is doing a lot of good things, obviously they (and the team) have some things they can improve on, but then again we all do . Well, thats all for how, again it's great to be here and look forward to contributing. Thanks chuckd
  18. NU - 34 OU - 17 rushing - 112 passing - 279
  19. I would agree that Taylor will probably start next season, but if Beck continues to make strides I think he gets some time too, especailly in game one. I think after seeing the two in the spring game (not for stats) we will be able to see better how closely they look and just how much Beck has progressed. One thing I am sure of though, this staff is going to play whichever quarterback they believe gives them the best chance to win.
  20. My only real concern for this game is, now don't laugh, Rhet Bomar. I am fairly confident that we can stop Oklahoma's running game, they are a little banged up and we have been very good at stoping running backs this year. Even though Bomar has had his problems, he is physically gifted and is fairly mobile. If he can move around enough in the pocket and make some good throws, our secondary is going to have its work cut out for them. If we can shut him down and force him to make the mistakes he was making earlier in the year I think we win by at least 10.
  21. I couldn't agree more. The fact is Murtha hasn't been at full speed pretty much since he got here. That means not only has he not been able to practice, he also hasn't been able to lift and condition. It would be great if he could play full time cause there is no doubt in my mind that he is a better (or at least will be) player than Thomas, unfortuantely he isn't at full speed or with much experience. Just my two cents
  22. I really hope AP does play, then the hillbillies won't have anything to complain about when they lose.
