  1. Less than 12 wins = subpar, eh Well, in that case Franklin had exactly one "par" year as his best year was 12 wins (1999) In fact, lets look at another coach, you may know him: Tom Osborne. I'll even take your number "12" down to 11 because they play an extra game now. So the number of years TO had years that weren't "subpar" is 5!!!!! That's right ladies and gentlemen, TO had 20 subpar years according to Bug Tooth. It took him until 1982 (10 years!!!!) to win more than 10 games. I'll bet you wished we would have chased that bum off before then, huh. And please don't come back with, "well, he never won less than 9 games, blah, blah." When TO took over, we had just won back to back national championships. When Solich took over we had just won 3 of 4 national championships. When Callahan took over we had went 17- 10 in the past two season. Not exactly the same situations is it.
  2. He has a sister with Downs Syndrome. His father played DB for Oklahoma in the 70's and I believe his mother was an athlete as well.
  3. Wow :asshat The only sad part of it is that you claim to be a Husker fan. Quick somebody name the trainer from ANY OTHER program in the country. Come on, I'll give you 20 seconds. You can't, you want to know why? Because in the grand scheme of things they aren't that important. People are fired all the time. What I find really sleezy on ol' Doak's part is that he was allowed to stay on as long as he did so he could attain all of his retirement benefits and then he goes on radio shows and bashed the administration. Sour grapes is what is spewing from Doak's mouth and luckily, since this is such a none story it will be completely forgotten in a couple of weeks. Those that use this as some kind of proof of the evil ways of BC and or SP are really starting to grasp at straws. Is Doak not a human being? Does he not deserve the respect of any person who has poured this much of his life into a passion for so little recognition or praise. Ask any former player (from the golden days) about Doak and his influence on their lives. If you had any knowledge of NU football you would understand what he meant to the program. What is said is that you are impersonating a Husker fan. Even more sad is that you eat the bulls&!t that Pederson feeds you. You know what I'm done even arguing with you. you are obviously not a fan of this program. You may have been at one time but you have made it very clear that you are no longer a fan.....perhaps we could call you a "formerfan" Anyway. I'm sure there are plenty of former players that liked Doak, but I can assure you not EVERY former player did (you like to make blanket statements because it makes your arguments look better, too bad blaket statements are almost never right) And there are quite a few current players that are not sad to see Doak leave. You can believe what you want but I know for a fact that there are people on both sides of the issue. Unlike you who seem to believe everyone except BC and SP loved Doak, that was simply not the case. Doak needs to stop his whining and get on with his life. He gave a lot to the university and he is only hurting himself by making all this fuss. But like I said, I'm done with you. You have made up your mind and that's fine with me, but please don't pretend to be a fan of THIS team, because you certainly are not.
  4. What about Frank taking a program that had just won 3 of 4 National Championships and running it into the ground. If you think a 9-5 season equals a program that has been shot in the head then you have some serious problems that aren't worth discussing on a message board. People like you are usless to talk to. You have made up your mind and no amount of facts or reasoning will change those opinions. You make outlandish statements about the program being dead and give no basis other than you wish it was still 1995. It's sad really. Oh well, I'm excited about the future of Husker athletics (Football, Baseball, Basketball, etc) and people like you will not stop me from rooting for the team I love. Have fun living in a world of doom and gloom, I'll stay away.

  6. Good golly I hope so. Gee whiz, you think we could just dig up the Bobfather and sit him in the AD's chair? That would be great! You know what would be even better, if we just fired the entire coaching staff and replaced them all with former players because they would do things "The Nebraska Way" It's really sad that some people can't let go of the past. The Nebraska Football program is one of the best in the nation, it has a long history and has sustained success for over 40 years. Just because our current head coach isn't from Nebraska or have any connections to the past doesn't make him any less of a Husker. People forget Devaney had absolutely no connection to Nebraska before he was hired, now his name is almost synonmous with the program. Point is, you don't have to forget all the success our program has had in the past, but you have to realize thats what it is, the past. And bringing back players/coaches from that period isn't going to equal "the good ol' days." What we can do is get behind the players/coaches that are here NOW and root for us to make new successes.
  7. First of all, I'm not a grammar nazi by any means, but a period would be nice. Secondly, get off this "Stop attacking me, I heard other people saying bad stuff about Pederson so it's ok when I do it." You aren't just questioning Steve, you think he should be fired and that he has "ruined Husker Nation." You are at the far end of the spectrum and you could probably argue I'm at the other end. However, there are things Steve has done that I don't completely agree with, but he has done nothing to warrent being fired and the whole "destroying Husker Nation" thing is just plain silly. Don't play the victim when you start a thread attacking someone you seem to know very little about in the first place. And just a little fyi, if 1620 is the main source of your information regarding the Nebraska Football program, I feel very sorry for you. (P.S. as others have noted the most ironic part of this all is that you are using a graphic "Husker Nation" SP himself created as your avatar.)
  8. Guess what, you used to be able to get on an airplane with a pocket knife, or at least nail clippers! Times change, the world is a scary place and anybody that doesn't see this is living under a rock. Are we safer in Nebraska than in other parts of the world, probably so, but that doesn't mean every building should be open and people should have access to whatever they want. It would be great if this was the case, however that is not reality, times change, things change. It's nice to remember the past, but some people need to stop living in it.
  9. I disagree. I would write more and explain why I completely disagree with everything you just said, but I have learned it is completely usless to argue with people who have already made up their mind. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Steve Pederson for everything he has done for the Nebraska program and hope that he will be around for a long, long time.
  10. Perhaps, but thats not what the scouts were saying. Mel Kiper had him as his #1 CB for the draft and numerous other places had him in the 1st-2nd round. You may be right and he may not have been ready for the NFL, but if he is healthy enough to run a good 40 time at the combine, he would have been a first rounder. We should be very grateful to coach Busch for doing what he did to insure that Zack came back for another year, we are going to need him.
  11. Asante was the most important recruit and it really isn't close. Safety was far and away the biggest need in this class and we hit a home run with Asante. Paul was big in a couple of respects. First we have to keep the top player in state, in state. Second, he is a phenominal athlete and we need guys like him. I think if you want to take the work "importance" literaly, Adi is up there as well. Both Lewis and Ross were big losses, but I think Stafford will be just as good a linebacker (not as good of overall athlete, but just as good at olb) and I think Ross would be a bigger loss if we didnt focus as much on the secondary as we did. I realize Blue and Sullivan weren't rated as high and neither look as good at this point, but either one/both may turn out to be just as good as Ross, we will find out in a few years. Oh, and the emphasis on DT was great to see, Terrence Moore is going to be a good one in a couple years. Townsend may get moved to base end, but he has 3 years to play. And come to think of it, Eric Hagg may have been the most important recruit, as he really opened the door to get the other 4 Arizona players.
  12. Just as long as they don't "coach" his tackling ability out of him!!! I'm not even real sure what that means, but all I know is if you want him to make tackles at the college level the exact same way he did in high school, you are going to VERY disappointed in the results. I think Lawrence is going to be a very, very good linebacker, but he does have some things to work on. I am very confident our coaches will help him with that. Say what you will about Coz's schemes and what not, but he has done a great job coaching LB's, especially considering the injuries we have had at that position.
  13. This is how the QB situation will shake out: 1) Keller 2) Ganz 3) Lee (being out for spring really hurts him) 4) Davis 5) Witt (will redshirt)
  14. He will make an immediate impact as a return guy with a shot at getting some snaps as a slot back/receiver. Having him here for spring ball is a HUGE plus.
  15. He's going to stay at LB, most likely WILL unless we have alot of injuries. He does have some technique issues that the coaches (Coz) will definitely get worked out. I think he will play alot of special teams this year and maybe have a shot at some PT on defense.
  16. is there any film on this kid? I am going to be very interested to see what the coaches do with him The offensive film on him is electric, I think he will definitely be used in the KR and/or PR game. However, I think he is going to start out on the defensive side of the ball. He is a tremendous athlete and we need young corners. If I remember correctly, Mike Brown was the Player of the Year in Arizona his senior season as a running back. I'd say he made a pretty good transition to the defensive side of the ball.
  17. Patin is not going to qualify this year. Baylor is going to try to get him to sign and then place him in a JUCO and hope that he stays with them if he can gets his grades up there. I will bet the farm there is no way he plays for Baylor NEXT season.
  18. Congrat to Coby, Stanford is a great school and it sounds like academics are very important to him.
  19. First of all, it's hard to tell ahead of time if a recruit is going to qualify or not, especially the JUCO ones. In the case of Franklin, had he passed all his classes at Butler, he would have qualified. Apparently he did not. Also in Franklin's case we recruited him out of high school, so we probably didn't have to spend a lot of "time and money" recruiting him this time around. As for high school guys not qualifing, it's even harder in most cases to tell if they are going to qualify or not. Most have the actual grades to qualify but not the test scores. Say you are recruiting a kid that you really want but he doesn't have the test score to qualify so you stop recruitng him early on. Then, later in the year he gets that test score and you want back in but it's too late. You may have saved that "time and money" but you missed out on the recruit. Callahan is making it a priority to not accept kids until it's almost a sure thing they are qualified. Sometimes even after taking this precaution, some kids just can't make the grade, it happens at almost every school. This is an unbelievable recruiting class we have put together this year and an academic casualty or two is not going to effect it enough to make a huge difference, that's the beauty of developing quality depth.
  20. I agree, that would be great to see that name on the back of a jersey again. Why, there has never been a Jason Peters at NU before? Jason Peter on the other hand was quite the player in the mid 90's.
  21. TO's version of the option would still work today, no doubt. The only real problem he would have would be getting a top notch QB to run it. Today, the Tommie Fraziers of the world play another position because they know it will get them to the NFL. However, and I'm sure I will get blasted for this, I don't think TO would be all that successful if he were to come back. First of all, things have changed since he retired, some things pretty significantly. Secondly, Tom is even older now than he was then, and the stress of coaching in college takes a toll even on young guys (Joe Pa and Bowden have obviously lessened their role in the actual operations) Lastly, I think it would be rather hard for Tom to assemble a staff anywhere near what he had when he retired. What I am getting at is we should be happy that we had an offense as great as we did in the 90's. When it was run right, it was a thing of beauty. However, when TO left, so did his offense. Anyone that thinks what Frank ran was what TO ran is crazy. TO's offense was predicated on a great RB (then when we had TF, it was unstopable) Frank's was ALL on the QB and Crouch served as a mask as to how one diminsional the offense really was. Sorry folks, but the option (at least as we knew it) is gone and it's not coming back. Tom is not coming back. We should be greatful for having been able to see it, but it is in the past. The option is not "Nebraska Football" but it was a big part of it for a long time. Nebraska Football is bigger than one coach, one player, one team, or one offense. It is over 100 years of tradition, players, coaches, and fans and it will go on for another 100 years, regradless of what offense we run.
  22. No offense to anyone involved, but this may be one of the dumbest threads I have ever seen.
  23. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think the "academic issues" had something to do with him not having enough "core classes." He goes to a fairly new charter school and sometimes charter schools don't offer the "right" classes required to get into some colleges. It seems that is what has happened here. but again, I'm not completely sure about that.
  24. Remember Charles Deas? He said he was going to "shock the world" with his choice and he committed to LSU, the school everyone identified as his favorite to begin with.
