  1. Stephen Smith thank you!!! About time somebody calls it like it is!!!! Anyone who test's positive for pot several times has problems in my opinion. I think he's a very high risk pick for the NFL.
  2. I agree that Callahan actually had a great offense and he's very well respected for his offensive mind. Just like Tim Beck knows offense. You don't get hired at Ohio State if you have no clue what you're doing. I think the Nebraska defense has been the real problem over the years. The Huskers have always put points on the board. I believe Riley will run a base offense that is mainly built around his system from Oregon St. I recall reading an article when he was at Oregon St where they talked about how he was looking at tinkering with some things to keep up with the Pac 12 scoring. Im not a fan of his offense, but I truly believe they will do everything they can to coach to our players skill set. I promise you they will recruit the typical drop back NFL type pocket passer for the future. Defense wins football games. Im much more concerned with keeping the other teams out of our endzone than Rileys offense. Coach Riley will put points on the board.
  3. Benched because he's slow and not that good. Doesn't help he decided to steal some bikes as well. He's lucky he's still on the team and getting his college paid for after that little stunt.
  4. All hype and buzzwords. Every team from pop warner to the NFl reacts on Defense. Prove it on the field. Until our players learn to wrap up, LB's with real speed and DL that doesnt get blow off the ball by the likes of Wisconsin and Minnesota O lineman doesnt really matter who is coaching.
  5. BYU has plenty of game film on Nebraska with a phone call. College coaches have connections to other coaches all over the country. Plus I believe BYU's coach is 2-1 versus Riley at Oregon State. Everyone that knows Riley well knows he lives and dies by the offense he runs. Since this is the offense they've won against in the past I don't see game preparation as an issue. I think this game comes down to special teams play.
  6. Well I think its very obvious what TO is talking about. He thinks its unreasonable to fire coaches so quickly. He talks about his 21 years of coaching before he won the big one. I think TO also understands how much the world of college football has changed since he left the coaching ranks. He understands how money has taken over CFB like most things in the world.
  7. Blame Bo, blame the QB, blame recruiting.....the games are won and lost in the trenches. Always have been and always will be. The Oregon ducks will continue to wow with speed and scoring, but until they figure out you win in the trenches same result. The Huskers have been weak for well over ten years on the line of scrimage. We've had some good players and our moments, but for the most part, not dominating play on either side of the ball regarding line play. Its no big shocker that TO tells Riley his advice of running the ball. TO knows Riley runs and always has run a pass first offense. TO like all great coaches understands that FB games are won in the trenches. He knows if you control the offensive line and run the ball you control the clock and usually win the game., Long sustained drives running the ball will tire the opponets defense, eat the clock and destroy your opponents will. Riley is a Pac 12 guy and its just not the type of Football they play for the most part in the Pac 12. Until that mentality of dominating both sides of the football and the mentality of being able to run the ball on anyone is restablished I don't see much changing. As far as the orginal topic goes BYU is a tough opener. I dont feel its a huge deal if Nebraska loses that game. BYU is well coached they play hard and they have several mature players on the team due to the two year mormon missions. Also the QB they're bringing into Lincoln is one of the best the Huskers will face. He's very dangerous throwing and running. With that said I still feel Nebraska wins the game, but I think it will be very close.
  8. First off to compare a loss to BYU to Iowa State is just silly. BYU is a solid program. The Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall is currently like the 7th best winning record for Division 1 coaches. They finished in the top 25 in 01, 06, 07, 08, 09,11. They beat the sooners and beat down Texas twice. This is a tough game to open the season.
  9. Best of luck Coach Warren. Big loss for the Huskers, but sounds like the NC program is on the rise. Finished number 24 in the ESPN team recruiting rankings. He's much closer to his home in Atlanta and he's hooking up with his old coach from the Air Force Academy.
  10. A couple of number crunchers playing with stats and a computer. Means nothing.
  11. Also count billity I feel your way off base. Have you ever been to Corvallis, Oregon? Please explain why you called it a poophole? It's an hour from the Ocean. It's got two mountain ranges in either direction. Have you ever been to an Oregon State football game? I'm sorry but the line the national media is singing is untrue and very offensive to Oregon State students and alumni. Coach Anderson will do damage in the Pac 12 at Oregon State because he will run the football with big lineman and play defense. Im so sick of the excuses of doing more with less. Really if Oregon State is such a dump and so disadvantaged for recruiting how did they role into Omaha a few years back and win the College World Series in baseball? I'll tell you how with coaching and great players recruited.
  12. Well I respectfully disagree. Unlike many of you I actually have lived in the Pacific NW for close to 20 years. So I have much more exposure to these coaches on a yearly basis. I've watched numerous games, followed the local media, have numerous contacts with former beavers. I'm not saying Mike Riley isnt a good coach. I'd be much more optimistic if he had severed ties with several of his assistants. But for people to continue to say that he has this great staff assembled? Sorry but his D-Coordinator, O-Coordinator, Offensive line coach and special teams coach all have ties to his lack of winning at Oregon State. They've been screaming for years for him to fire Banker, but they have long term ties. All he's done is got his old band back together and regrouped to the Midwest. They all got pay raises and an upgrade in facilities and tradition. Will that equal success? Will that result in better recruiting? Time will tell, but some of the things I've observed from these coaches. Horrible clock management, poor defense and lack of wrapping up. Lots of penalties more than our beloved Huskers. Failure to be ready to play in early season games. Poor special teams play. The lack of or ability to defend the spread offenses. The stubborness to change. Pocket passing QB's that have very little mobility. The pass first mentality. Nebraska has lost its brand of all american lineman and I-back U. We've been all over the board for 15-20 years. You must establish tradition and a brand for long term success in college football. Current recruits werent even alive during our glory years. Perhaps Coach Riley starts a new brand for the Huskers. I feel we lost our way and our relevance on the national scene once we got away from the blue collar pound the rock Nebraska way. Thats respectfully my opinion and its the reason I dont see us improving drastically in overall recruiting rankings.
  13. Sorry but I dont agree with the Nick Saban argument. Saban was at Michigan St for five years and never had a losing record. Mike Riley was at Oregon St for 13. He had 7 years of winning records and 6 years of losing records. In Oct of 2014 Nebraska had 26 former players in the NFL. In October of 2014 Oregon State had 19 players in the NFL. Football is a team sport who cares how many players are in the NFL. If you don't win you're not going to get top recruits plain and simple. Bottom line he wasnt getting it done at Oregon State. Why wouldnt he come to Nebraska. The heat was getting hot from the Oregon State fanbase. He gets offered a fresh start at a school like Nebraska and that little thing called a million dollars more per year. No brainer why he took the job. Meanwhile the Ducks and Frost pull in the 1, 3 and 5 all purpose backs in the nation. The Ducks still finished out of the top 15. Regardless of my opnion I wish them all the success in the world.
  14. TheSker.....shhhhhh....quiet nobody wants to talk about that little glitch. All I know the fans in Corvallis, Oregon are still jumping for joy. They finally have a coach that wants to play physical smash mouth football. Top 20 recruiting class I'd be happy with that, but dont see it.
  15. Oregon St didnt come in that high on the recruit rankings, but they brought in quite a few large body players. The run game is going to be established at Oregon State. Contrary to what all the Husker fans in Nebraska think you can win at Oregon St. The basketball team is rolling and the baseball team has won the College World Series. You'll see the new Oregon St coach get that program winning again.
  16. Good luck I hope he has a great career with the Razorbacks. If the internship opportunities helped him make his choice then good for him. I can appreciate an Athlete making choices about life besides football or the dreams of playing in the NFL. Sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders if this is the case.
  17. Well good for Ron Brown. He'll be a positive addition to Youngstown St. He's coached in more championship Division I games then any of the current coaches combined. I'm happy he's still able to influence kids in a positive way.
  18. Don't worry skersfan the majority need a scapegoat to blame. Taylor was the perfect scapegoat. Currently it's Bo and his former staff and how none of them had any knowledge. This is usually coming from a core of posters that are all mushy over our new coaches, They don't want to talk about the 29-33 record over the last five years in the Pac 12. They don't want to talk about losing 8 out of the last 9 PAC 12 conference games. But if you're a Husker fan who wants to bash on Taylor Martinez you have no football knowledge or any type of knowledge regarding athletic ability. I hope his foot heals up because with that type of speed he has a shot at playing in the NFL not as a QB. But like I stated earlier he has a degree, his own business and he's stayed out of trouble. I call that a success.
  19. Good for him he was a great player who set quite a few records at Nebraska. Good to hear he has formed his own company and is making video game apps. I think we lose perspective of the value of getting an education and becoming a good citizen as opposed to being an NFL player. Sounds like Taylor Martinez is becoming successful off the Football field. That's what it's all about it.!!!!!
  20. Oh thanks for the play by play of the 9-4 season in 2007. You're grasping at straws in my opinion. Should we talk about the rest of the seasons in the PAC 12 perhaps you can come up with excuses to make you feel better about the hire. 1997-3-8, 1998-5-6, new coaching staff 99, 2000, 2001, 2002. 2003-
  21. I wouldn't get too excited over some stat from 2007. They finished 9-4 and beat Maryland in the Emerald Bowl. They got beat badly by Cincy, UCLA and also lost to Arizona St. and USC. I wish them all the luck and hopefully they can turn it around in Lincoln.
  22. What an explosive player. I enjoyed watching him last season. I think he's going to turn quite a few more heads before he's done.
