  1. "We don't have an identity, let's blow everything up and try something else" Does anyone not see the problem with the typical fan attitude with that statement or some variation of that statement? Anyone?, Anyone?
  2. That just doesn't relate to the "walkon" from Nebraska anymore. These kids weren't even alive the last time Nebraska was great. What do they care about how successful Nebraska was 25 years ago?
  3. Until Nebraska runs the same offense for more than 4 years, and the same defense for more than 4 years they will never be a great team. Everyone keeps bringing up Wisconsin, but they have run the same system for years now on both sides of the ball, and yes they have switched coaches and assistants. But guess what they still run the same thing because it works. It is a run-heavy pro system on offense and a 3-4 on defense. (not too far off of what Riley is trying to do. yes, we have thrown a lot this year, but that is what happens when you get behind and are trying to play catch up. That's life) all of the "great" teams have one thing in common. Some sort of consistency in the system on both sides of the ball, or if there was a change it was to only one side of the ball, and it wasn't a wholesale change. And until fans have some patience with a coach (any coach) this is never going to happen again at Nebraska.
  4. The more Rimington speaks the more concern I have. He seriously believes we need more walkons. No, we don't, we have plenty. We need a system that is in place for more than 4 years. Even when Bo was here he never had an offensive system in place for more than 4 years. I could make the argument his defensive system changed also. The reason all of the great teams are great, is because of consistency. Nobody brings up the elephant in the room when talking about Nebraska of the 80s and 90s. They changed their offensive identity...never, and their defensive identity....once. Over the course of 20 years. That is how you build championship teams. That's when the 50 plus walkons that Rimington wants start to make a big difference because they were running the same offense and defense that Nebraska ran in High school. They could step right in and make a difference.
  5. Nebraska has been very lucky with injured QBs in night games. Michigan (Denard Robinson left in the 1st qtr), Ohio St. (Tyrell Pryor? left in the 1st qtr, Joe B stepped into clinch defeat from the jaws of victory) and I believe Michigan St's QB was dinged up also. The Ohio St. game was at the time the largest comeback by Nebraska ever. (still may be).
  6. Joe Bauserman says Hi. Probably the game that ultimately led to Luke Fickel being relieved of his head coaching duties, and bringing in Urban Meyer. So, we got that going for us....which is nice.
  7. From the same place this entire thread is about.
  8. UCF strength of schedule is 82nd in the nation Nebraska's is 23rd. (and everybody says our schedule has been easy) Let's be careful about anointing the next savior based on incomplete data.
  9. For those that care. UCF SoS is 82nd. Puts a few things in perspective.
  10. Watch Wisconsin. They do the same thing. As far as the corners go. They just mix in an occasional field side press. We don’t have the corners to cover press man
  11. They have also only allowed 200 yards or less in back to back games. Which hasn’t been done in 16 years. Think of all the crappy teams we have played in 16 years. tonight was the fewest points given up on the road in over 20 years. Like back to the 90s man. Again think of all of the crappy teams that we have played. Yes the offenses were were not good, and there is a lot to work on, but they just did some things that haven’t been done in a generation.
  12. Siap so not sure of validity first time since 2001. Defense has given up less than 200 *yds in back to back games. Lowest points given up on the road since K state in 2006. Bad offenses or not thats not to shabby.
  13. Nothing. He walked to midfield. Just like he always does.
  14. That's what every topic on this board is about, isn't it? It isn't the single instance of Rimington being hired, it is the path that is now being traveled down that is concerning to me. The path ultimately leads in one direction, and if we happen to get the destination and find that it is nothing but a sewer, we'll have bigger issues to face. I have also said, that IF a true search firm takes place and the best candidate is hired then I will eat crow. If the best candidate that the University of Nebraska can find is Trev Alberts, then we are toast.
  15. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on you. Fool me three times, you better have nice.....
  16. I could also make the argument that the Nebraska way hasn't worked in 20 years either. So why not go out and make a true best candidate hire for AD and if required coach. We haven't had a real search for either.....well ever. The last true coaching search was Devaney? The last true AD search..... Maybe Byrne, but I believe he was here under Devaney.
  17. Since there is all this speculation out there that Frost is already the next head coach at NU, it's just a matter of when. What happens if he turns them down? It isn't far-fetched, he has already done it once when he was a player, and once when he was offered a coaching position, allegedly. Who does Nebraska go after then? What about if Trev turns them down. There is just as much of a chance of this happening as it not.
  18. Why not pursue that goal? Which is what Riley and the staff have been trying to build in recruiting infrastructure and disciplines. We were seeing some of those fruits this year, but with all of the uncertainty about this staff's job now I expect the wheels to come off in recruiting. And it will take another 2-3 years to get that system built back up again.
  19. For me, it boils down to the why everything has to be "The Nebraska Way" or else. If it smells like a fish, looks like a fish, and swims like a fish. It certainly isn't a dog, now is it? Now, if and that is a big IF. There is a true national search conducted, and the most qualified individual is hired as the AD then I will gladly eat crow. But if the perceived main qualification for AD is the "Nebraska ties" then the program is not going to grow. Because there are no qualified candidates out there that have Nebraska ties. (Trev Alberts = Steve Pederson with less experience)
  20. Apparently Sam mckewon with the OWH was just as confused about the statement as I was and wrote about it today. I’m not able to link at the moment but he has a very succinct article up today about what’s happening.
  21. As has been discussed extensively here and elsewhere. Yes, there is talent on this roster, but there is no depth. Now why that is can be debated, but the fact remains there is a lack of talented depth on the team right now.
  22. This is the part that concerns me. If he believes that the Walk on program needs to improve, and former players aren't welcome. What other things does he believe that are no longer true? How will that influence his "help" in finding a new AD. I'm hoping, beyond hope that once he gets into the program a bit, he will start to realize a few truths about where the program really is, and not just believe what was a problem from 10 years ago.
