  1. wifi disappears........someone appears. Hmmmm, Very interesting.
  2. Good find 37. There are some "food" mention rules too. You can be hungry or not satisfied and still have the blues. You can only mention certain foods or related actions; fish (especially catfish) or fishin, pork up in the pan, fryin, etc. Can't mention steak unless it's someone's name such as T-Bone. Can't have the blues with porterhouse, sirloin, etc. Cold, tired, hungry, and beggin are all acceptable and it is preferable to use them all simultaneously. As far as I know, the only natural disaster that coincides with the blues is floodin. Seems like blizzards, hail, tornadoes and the like would be ok but they're not. Only floods. The only acceptable direction for the blues is down; down in Texas, down the road, down in Mississippi. Nothing is "up" with the blues.
  3. I've long suspected that the New York Times is simply sitting around awaiting your every thread creation and post someone. I think you've caught them in the act. Good job
  4. WTF did I just read? Wow! I am stupider for having read that article and especially some of the comments following. That helps explain a lot about some peoples tendency to always attack religion. I guess it's well deserved in some cases. No wonder they have amusement parks showing humans riding dinosaurs, apparently plenty of people who will buy that and worse.
  5. People are different, have different likes and dislikes and music is no exception to this. Some music evokes an emotional response that can be based on many things that do not involve the skill or creativity of the musician. Likewise a person can pick up on flawless performances or combinations, rhythms, or beats that seem new or innovative. It would be pretty difficult to tell another person, with any authority or effect, that their taste in music is either good or bad. It's all in the ears of the listener. I can appreciate that some think AC/DC all sounds the same. I would agree to an extent, although they do have some bluesier songs that don't sound the same as the majority of their more known hard rocking tunes. Ride On, Night Prowler, and The Jack come to mind. The more strongly blues influenced stuff happens to be my favorite but I pretty much like it all. One of my favorite things to do is listen to the intro to their songs back to back. About ten to twenty seconds and skip to the next. There are similarities but they have a virtual monopoly on great guitar riffs. I don't care if they're only three chords, that sh#t rocks and nobody does it as often or consistently.
  6. I wouldn't have a problem if it were called the Music Hall of Fame or some such thing but it is the Rock & Roll HOF. Here is a short list of some that have already been inducted: Public Enemy, Laura Nyro, Beastie Boys, Neil Diamond, Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Herb Alpert, Miles Davis, Isaac Hayes Here is a partial list of some who have not been inducted yet: Kiss, The Cars, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Joan Jett, B-52's, Cheap Trick, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Iron Maiden, Moody Blues, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, Joe Cocker, The Monkees, Journey, Chicago, Hall & Oates, The Cure Now I won't say the ones that are in aren't deserving of something or that I necessarily like all of those listed that aren't in but, this is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I happen to like Neil Diamond and can appreciate the music of Herb Alpert and Miles Davis but no way guys like that belong in there before these others. More than a few of these just astound me; SRV, Kiss, Joe Cocker.... c'mon. It seems they stayed pretty true to R&R from 1986 to about 2002 but since then there have been some real head scratchers and very notable slights IMO.
  7. I won't agree or disagree with this (because they both deserve to be in) but wanted to point out that, based on people/groups who are in the HOF and those who aren't, the Rock N Roll HOF is pretty much a joke. They've got groups in there I wouldn't even begin to classify as rock and there is a huge list that would appear to be no brainer choices who aren't. I don't think they know what the hell they're doing at the HOF.
  8. So, I guess I should feel good that it was "only" $3.69 this morning when I filled up here in northern Colorado. I won't miss out on all the fun though since I'm taking the 14 MPG family truckster to Oklahoma City the weekend after Memorial Day. Ouch, that'll be an expensive softball tournament.
  9. Haha that's funny and reminds me of an old college story. Back in about 82 or 83 it was parents day and my frat had a champaign breakfast across town somewhere. Well we get back a couple hours before gametime and my roommates parents show up to see him. We can't find him anywhere so assume he has headed across campus to the game. We go to the game, come back to the frat house and his parents come looking for him again. Once again we assume he is just dragging behind. His parents live quite a ways away so they have to go. They didn't get to see him. About an hour later we discover him passed out in his rack room. Wake him up and he wants to know if it's time to leave for the game.
  10. OK then, which 2 do you feel are not tyranny and why? Before you answer, I am going to assume here that your 2 disagreements are with Obamacare and social security. Tyranny can be expressed in many ways but one of the simplest determinations is to review what powers we the people have granted and enumerated to the federal government through the Constitution. If you didn't read my linked article, I would strongly suggest that you do so. Part of the problem, as Knapp has alluded to, is that the citizenry doesn't even understand how this is all supposed to work. I would suggest that if you disagree with 2 of my listed tyrannies, you do not really understand what tyranny is. You are going to need to show me where in the Constitution it is within the feds power to require that people have health insurance or that the government should be involved in it in any way and then do the same thing with social security. Liberal USC rulings do nothing to disprove tyranny but actually augment claims.
  11. That is an excellent list of the causes of and reasons for tyranny but none of them are actual tyranny. If we were able to eliminate or correct those four items, actual tyranny would be much more rare in this country. You get the deeper thinking award for this list.
  12. Those are good additions to the list. I listed social security because; 1- we do not have the choice to participate and 2-the where is that power enumerated for the feds to have the ability to make us do it?
  13. Well, see, that's just the thing, I'm not all worked up about the AP/DOJ issue. Go review my posts in that thread (really- it will only take you a few minutes) and you'll see I'm not throwing a hissy fit over it. I have a much bigger problem with the Benghazi deal. The AP/DOJ thing is just a minor thing to help make the overall list look worse than it really is.
  14. Well suminabeach, we were bound to agree on something, sometime, although I was beginning to doubt it. It's a rather long article but worth reading. Some may feel it has a slight conservative bent to it but I think that is to be expected when discussing the US Constitution and how the enumerated powers thing has morphed into the opposite of what was really intended.
  15. Another over-rated band- Aerosmith. Outside of a few decent songs, what have they given the world of music?
  16. WTH? Is this a troll or are you serious? They definitely had plenty that I would call an acquired taste but they were groundbreaking in many ways and had more than a few really good songs. 100% serious. I would rather have another root canal then to hear that organ solo from "Light My Fire." Cringing just thinking about it. Out of curiosity, how old are you? I can understand how somebody under 35 years old may not appreciate the Doors and the time period they represented. And for clarification, Light My Fire is close to my least favorite song of theirs. But Roadhouse Blues, Break on Through, Love Me Two Times, Five To One, When the Music's Over, Hello I Love You.....? c'mon now.
  17. Found an interesting article on this subject, linked below. This is my extremely limited list, that was just at the tip of my brain; Obamacare Prohibition Social Security certain aspects of the Patriot Act My favorite line from the linked article; "Taken seriously, the Constitution would pose a serious threat to our form of government." http://www.sobran.com/articles/tyranny.shtml
  18. You're right, gutteral was not a good way to put it. I meant more like "from the soul".
  19. I think many of you are struggling with partisan issues and how people react to them. I have not claimed to be totally non-partisan or unbiased. And I can accept that others have their bias' as well. It is quite logical for a person like me, who leans to the right, to be more critical of the left/dems/liberals. I really don't have a problem understanding that or accepting that others may be more critical of the right/repubs/conservatives. That's how people are and that's how things work. However, the problem begins when people start defending their side and criticizing the other side for the exact same behavior or getting all up in arms when a conservative has not been critical enough of repubs. It may not be fair and in some cases it may be inconsistent but, it is not hypocritical to pick and choose what issues or events to complain about or ignore. To my knowledge, I have not defended republicans for similar offenses I have criticized the dems for. Also, I do not believe it is not an excuse for anything that has recently occurred under the Obama administration to say, "yeah but what about what Bush did". Anyway, that's how I look at it.
  20. That's a lot of questions for someone who already has the answers they want.
  21. Do you have a link to said claim by 'other posters, in other threads'? Yes but go fish. If you're looking for my claim as an exact quotation though, you will be wasting your time. If you don't agree that was the general gist of some of those posts, well you comprehend different than I do or have an inability to read between the lines.
  22. Agree about Rush no matter how many in the band but the fact that it is only three does make them almost unbelievable. Limelight easily in my top 3 all time songs. The gutteral screeching of Bon Scott and Brian Johnson is actually a big reason why I do like them. Must draw on some base primitive instinct or something but you can tell it's coming from some place deeper than just their physical capabilities. I liken their singing to Stevie Ray Vaughns guitar playing. They don't just play/sing notes, they feel it and make you feel it.
  23. Rush? Tony my man, say it isn't true. The moving pictures album alone puts them in a whole other category.
