  1. Well we are at 3 losses now...that loss to Illinois reminded me of the 2009 loss AT Virginia Tech. Nebraska ended up having a pretty good year that year, and the infamous 1 second screw job in the big 12 title game. Maybe since the illinois game reminded me of the 09 VT game. This team goes on a win streak and wins out... Let there be hope until reality sets in on Saturday.
  2. I know it depends a lot on what other games are on that week, but 2010 October 16 vs Texas? Huskers were ranked #5 at the time and that was HUGE hyped game. 2011 October 29 vs #9 Michigan State, Nebraska was #13 at the time. First year in the B1G.
  3. I can not believe Gameday has not been to Lincoln since 2007. We've fielded competitive teams since then and had some big games in Memorial Stadium since then, you would think they would come to Nebraska, especially with the Husker fan base. Besides Herbie upset that the 1995 Nebraska team was crowned the best ever, does ESPN and Gameday have something with Nebraska that they dont come here? Just surprising given Nebraska's support, they havent been in Lincoln in 8 years. I guess they spend too much of their time in the SEC.
  4. Yeah Pelini needed to go. It's who they hired that is almost as disappointing as the games Pelini got reamed in.
  5. And the biggest argument going for Riley was what he could be capable of doing with the type of recruits he could get at Nebraska and Nebraska resources. And here he is going after the same players he could get at Oregon State. At the current moment, Oregon State's new head coach is going after 4-5 star recruits. Something unheard of with Riley. I never heard in the paper Riley going for 4-5 star recruits while he was at OSU. Andersen seems to have one on campus on a weekly basis. Not saying they are going to commit to the Beavers, but at least the Beavers new head coach is trying, something Riley didn't do. And give him time? I've already exhausted this. He's currently 62.
  6. two of those teams have something in common. Eichorst.
  7. Out West here i dont really know what the local media is saying or how much they are grilling Riley. Mark Helfrich, who went to the national title game last year is getting hammered by local newspapers for being 3-2. Oregon use to be middle tier program years ago. Now I've heard talk that Ducks want Kelly from Philly to return.
  8. Well I thought Pearlman is gone after this year. and Hopefully Eichorst is gone soon as well. Wouldnt Osborne like to express his opinion on whoever the new coach is with the new admin?
  9. well he's never faced this much pressure and scrutiny in his career, besides maybe his days with the Chargers. He may very well realize this wasn't for him and he leaves. We can hope anyways.
  10. No he couldn't but would the fan base hold him to the same standards as Riley and such. That is what I would be curious to see. I think the fan base is much more optimistic to give him 4-6 years to see what he can do. 1.) he is a Nebraska guy 2.) he is young. IF we give Riley 4-5 years to build something he turns 65-66 years old. How much longer then does he have to continue whatever he built....?
  11. The only thing that seems to send a message is the sell out streak. Last person to put that streak in jeopardy was Callahan in 2007 after 4 miserable years. Riley has been here 5 games and i wouldnt be surprised if the talk of ending the streak starts. That is how bad this hire was. But no matter how we look at it, Riley wont be fired under this administration, just too unheard of for a coach to be gone after one season. Although, I wouldn't think we'd get too much heat if we publically said (with Riley also assisting) that this just didn't work out and both sides move on. And Nebraska ends with one of their own, say Frost. But again, I don't see that happening. Just too unheard of. Our best bet to have Riley realize the job in Lincoln is just not right for him and he retires.
  12. I'd be on board with this. Riley's gotta go. Soon. We have nothing to loose at this point. The only issue might be "political" depending on what Osborne's personal influence to Frost's decision would be. I am unaware of this. Why would Osborne not want Frost here? Frost won Osborne a title.
  13. Frost has stolen a QB recruit from us. Frost and Oregon come to Lincoln next year. God help us. This staff couldnt figure Oregon out when they were just 60 miles apart. Riley hangs his hat on getting that one big upset a year while at Oregon State. The thing people seem to forget, there were also loses to the likes of Sacremento State and other teams they should have beaten. Those wins vs 1 USC or #2 California were ended with 7-8 win seasons.
  14. I too completely agreed with Riley enough time to build the program, but this bad in his first year? He doesn't have time to rebuild things. It was my understanding, from what was fed to us that Riley was here to win immediately. Not to wait 4-5 years for things to get turned around, and why should we wait with Riley? The man is 62. By the time he turns things around, given it is the 4-5 year window, his one good year will probably be his farewell tour before retirement. This hire, if it was created for the future, would make since if a young promising coordinator, for sake of argument, lets say Frost, was the offensive coordinator with this staff. And he could take over the reigns after a few years and continue things. But there is no coach on this staff capable of inheriting this program, and I am pretty sure Nebraska fans don't want anyone from this staff inheriting this program. IMO, from the beginning Riley was going to be here 4-5 years and simply retire afterwards. The word around Oregon was he was going to Nebraska for one last hoorah and see what he could do with a big time program before riding off into the sunset. Things are bad right now around the program. It will only get worse the more the losses accumulate. Sure, we can give Riley the typical 4 year grace period before judging him. But it wasn't like he came into this job with a bare cupboard. This was a 9 win team. He came into this program with the experience of decades of coaching, a staff he has been with for a long time, inherited a talented group and plentiful resources. Any coach I would think who came into this situation could muster up at least 7-8 wins. I don't see that happening, and I see no fire at all from Riley and nothing he is doing to show me any confidence he can right this ship.
  15. I am sorry you feel that way, and I will gladly respect the thoughts of long time posters before I continue on. I am a life long Husker fan, and after last nights game I had to express my anger somewhere. You have spent a lot of money to support this site, I have spent a lot of money to support Nebraska football. I was skeptical of this hire from the start, living in Oregon I knew Riley and what he did at Oregon state. By August, I had hope, hope this wasn't that bad of a hire. Now the beginning of October and my initial fear is very well alive. Anyways, I will go away for now, as I respect long time posters, and what makes the Husker nation so awesome is we are like one giant family. GBR
  16. I was for Frost this time around. I will forever be for Frost. I admit Frost might not be the guy who turns things around, but I would be more willing to let a Nebraska guy try 4-5 years to turn things around, then an almost retired outside guy. Give Frost a chance. Apologize to everyone this year that this was a mistake and this year is lost, then go get Frost. Let him try. Move on before we get too far into Riley's system and then Frost has to come in here and try to rebuild again.
  17. Honestly, you'd think a staff with this much experience, coming from a resourceless program like Oregon State would at least get to 8 wins coming into Nebraska with the talent and resources Nebraska has. I dont think 8 wins with th experience of this staff is asking too much with this schedule. And I would be fine with 8 wins under Riley's first year. 8 wins is now not going to happen. 7 wins probably wont happen. It is most likely Nebraska wont see a bowl game this year, which coincidentally last occurred during Callahan's last year. On the bright side, Riley is quickly catapulting himself into Nebraska record books, first opening day loss in what? 30 something years. Firt time losing to Illinois since 1920's. Probably only second time in how many years Nebraska doesnt make a bowl game? Why not continue the record breaking year and be the first one and done coach in Nebraska history.
  18. Unless you want to go with a future building guy, like Scott Frost, who wanted the HC job this time around. If Nebraska doesn't pick up Frost soon, someone else will, and we will be kicking ourselves for not going with him. The dude showed Mariota clips from Nebraska games, a lot. Mariota was educated on Nebraska football and probably knows more about Nebraska football than some current Nebraska players. Look, Frost might not be the answer, but I know I would be much more willing to let a young Nebraska guy get 4-5 years to try out his thing, then an old almost retired head coach who has proven he's .500 wherever he goes.
  19. Agreed. His age raised a lot of questions in my mind when he was hired. If the plan wasn't for him to turn things around immediately, then what was the point? He's at the tail end of his career. It's not like he has years in front of him to slowly build a program. Exactly....Suddenly, now that he is failing miserably the answer is, let him have time to build the program. Where is the time?
  20. Oregon State was one of the most penalized teams under Riley as well.
  21. I think Nebraska fans who want Riley gone are taking the wrong approach of "FIRE RILEY NOW" ....I think those fans, myself included need to start the movement of "RETIRE NOW"
  22. Problem is, Nebraska should win at least 2 more games this year. But I guess after losing to Illinois anything is possible.
  23. is the sell out streak in jeopardy this week? Maybe not vs Wisconsin since many would like to see a Nebraska win vs Wisconsin. But if the losses continue, will the streak be in jeopardy? This seems to be the one holy thing that wakes up the administration. I remember Callahan almost ruined the streak, didn't boosters have to buy a lot of tickets near the end of Callahan's run?
  24. This staf...smh. IF the players start to think they threw Tommy, who has been the leader of this team, under the bus then they are in big time trouble. More losses to add on top of an already terrible start to their careers here. I am sure after what Bo told these players when he was fired, these players were already loyal to Bo and skeptical of this staff. Then you add in the losses, the heat the players get from the losses, and just the mere possibility or feel the staff has thrown a player under the bus. Please, someone get a fire extinguisher, because we are going to need it.
  25. And even if Frost failed this year we could look for the future of him turning it around. Riley's future in terms of sucess or simply his career is limited. The man is already 62 years old. Fail this year, and hope things turn around in 3-4 years and he is 65 years old....... Eichorst also hired Al Golden at Miami who is probably out after this year. Great resume.
