  1. Maybe Riley will pull a Spurrier and give this program and its fan base what it deserves... Mercy.
  2. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2015/9/16/9329945/tom-herman-houston-cougars-football-offense-defense Good article. Talks about getting a staff together offensive and defensive philosophy, coaching stops and experience. Herman seems like a good fit as far as offensive and defensive philosophy and probably would have utilized Tommy's skills better this year. How the heck did we not consider Herman last year? I can kind of see it from Eichorst's standpoint taking heat hiring a first time head coach to replace Pelini. OSU's offense was always balanced. Every time I'd check their stats after a game running and passing yards were almost equal. It looks like he's doing the same at UH from the stats posted. It seems he likes the recruiting in Texas so would he feel like he would struggle recruiting at Nebraska? I like that he went after proven coordinators on both sides of the ball. Strong Texas ties as well as B1G and BugXII country. He may want to put in more than a year at UH and we may want to give Riley another year or two. Maybe things will come together. I didn't see in the article who is OC is and what his background is. I wonder if Frost's experience and expressed interest in adding some power run into Oregon's spread would complement Herman's offense. OK, now I'm just dreaming. I think RIley is at a disadvantage replacing a winning coach with his career record when trying to get buyin from the players. That's not an excuse for the players but is the reason I'm willing to give Riley some more time. When you have someone with Herman's experience, any attitude problems from the players are on the players and a coach can more easily deal with them. I don't even want to give MR time to pack up his hotel room. Fire him now, and have his belongings shipped to him. Hah, I think he just signed a mortgage not too long ago. Might have to put the "For Sale" sign up sooner rather than later. He can enjoy his retirement back home in Oregon for all I care. He is a nice guy but the old saying is nice guys finish last.
  3. 2 negative running plays and we completely abandon it?! RUN THE DAMN BALL!!! I hate WCO!
  4. Herman buyout $2.25M New Nebraska contract $4M base salary over 4 years, $16M Add in what Pelini is owed which equates to $7.65M paid monthly $150,000 Add in what Riley would be owed $8.16M paid monthly $170,000 That's $34 million total, $15.81M of it being paid out to two former coaches.
  5. I think more people would shake their head at us if we don't fire him. Nationally we're obviously still relevant because we're being mocked by every sports network there is and on social media by not only our own fans but other teams' fan bases as well. We're at an all-time low right now and I don't see the point in "riding this out" as Dirk Chatelain suggests.
  6. Sorry but I disagree 100% with this I know you do but seriously, there have been candidates rumored throughout the years what if they all turned the job down? I mean, do you really see the university paying $320,000 a month for two coaches over the next couple of years in addition to a potential 3rd head coach? Next week when we're blown out at home, it will be the point of no return. *edit* I've noticed the guys in your signature. Mark Richt is on the hot seat and may be out at UGA, Herman is likely going to get snagged by another perennial program (USC), and Tressel has absolutely no interest in returning to coach football unless somebody can provide deep statistical analysis of our financial resources, I'm not sure we can get a premiere coach to come to the program right now. Like I said, maybe we've tried in the past and failed maybe nobody looks at Nebraska the same anymore even Urban Meyer said he would never coach here because of fan expectations so while I agree that Nebraska needs to get a hot commodity, the probability of that happening is rather low.
  7. The disappointment is so high that I think most people wouldn't shake their heads at us for firing Riley. I honestly believe it. Sure, we might face some national ridicule over it but really, is it worth letting this crash course continue?
  8. It is very sad. Just look at this https://twitter.com/search?q=Nebraska
  9. FWIW, Nebraska was trending #8 worldwide on Twitter during the second half until the end of the game...
  10. If Riley is fired, it will be hard to get a big name hired here. Several candidates that have been mentioned is unrealistic. The only people I see that the fan base could get behind are guys like Frost, Troy Calhoun, Ken Niumatalolo from Navy, etc. We just might have to settle on finding a guy that would be a lower pay grade, why not Lance Leipold? Current HC @ Buffalo. He did lead Wisconsin-Whitewater to 5 Division III championships and runners-up in 2008. Since 2007, Leipold has been the most successful coach statistically than any other coach today. Reached 100 victories faster than any coach in NCAA history. The previous mark of 108 games was set by Gil Dobie in 1921 Won NCAA Division III National Football Championship in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014 and were runners-up in 2008 A .921 career winning percentage prior to accepting HC job at Buffalo Boasts a 34-1 career Division III playoff record He is known as a rising star in the coaching ranks with an overall record of 113-10. Coaching career: 1987 Wisconsin-Whitewater (QB) 1988 Wisconsin-Whitewater (WR) 1989 Doane (assistant) 1990 Wisconsin-Whitewater (assistant) 1991-1993 Wisconsin (GA) 1994-2000 Nebraska-Omaha (assistant) 2001-2003 Nebraska (assistant) 2004-2006 Nebraska-Omaha (AHC/OC) 2007-2014 Wisconsin-Whitewater (HC) 2015 Buffalo (HC)
  11. Actually I think the sell out streak is at jeopardy as we speak. Fan apathy has been discussed lately most notably from ESPN's Mitch Sherman and he's right. If I was a season ticket holder, I truly would have no interest in driving down to Lincoln to see us get blown out against MSU. Why do that when I could save on the gas and headache? We're 3-6 and I just wouldn't see a point in attending and I know people catch flak for feeling that way. Man... next week is going to be tough because its a nationally televised game.
  12. The more I look at the hiring of Riley the more I believe it was a decision Eichorst made based on emotion and that it was a public relations type of hire as well. Really, I don't see any other explanation.
  13. I do think the job of running the Nebraska football program is not as prestigious as it once was. Had Tom Osborne retired last year without naming a successor, there would have been a laundry list of coaches wanting the job. Maybe candidates did shy away from our program but on the contrary, I think Pederson and Eichorst are both full of sh*t especially Eichorst because he's a BS lawyer. 90% of his e-mails are positive... yeah, right. Just look us up on Twitter, CNN SI, OWH, Journal Star, ESPN, HuskerMax, Huskerboard. What is positive right now?
  14. Everything is eerily similar to the Callahan era. The mistakes, the losses, the high pass attempts, lack of a running game. The loss today I consider a blowout even though we managed to get garbage points late in the game very similar to '07 USC game where we lost 49-31 but everyone saw how bad Nebraska got beat and the score didn't indicate that at all. We're in for a wild one, that's for sure. We have fired two guys in the past 12 years who both finished 9-3 and traded it for a guy and his staff for a possible 3-9 outcome... It's a nightmare.

  16. Tom Osborne once said if he was coaching today he would run a Power Spread Option similar to what Urban Meyer runs at Ohio State and of course the same concept with Tom Herman now.
  17. Here is a brief breakdown of Herman's Power Spread http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2015/9/16/9329945/tom-herman-houston-cougars-football-offense-defense I read this article earlier. Immediately the paragraph that talks about him learning Power-I tells you he knows power wins football. Bill Parcells is known for always saying, "Power wins football. Power wins football, wearing you down." I mean, to this day its a known fact that power football still works. It used to be Nebraska's identity and it needs to be resurrected and this goes for both sides of the ball. If you have a tough as hell offense beating down on your one's you know damn well your starting defense is going to be physically tough. The 90's teams hated practice. They hated it. The games themselves were easier to them. We need to get back to that mentality.
  18. The fact that at one point we were down 42-16 to a 1-6 team who hasn't won a conference game in three years should be enough to cause some red flags for fans. Unfortunately, too many people look at the final score and think, "Well, we didn't do so bad since we only lost by ten points." BUT our defense surrendered 55 points to a team that ranks 103rd in scoring offense and 98th in scoring defense. The score is no indication of how badly Nebraska got beat. This is the first time in it's 125 year history that Nebraska has a losing recording heading into November. Let that sink in for a minute. This season is on pace for being the worst season dating back to 1961 and pre-Devaney era. This is, right now, worse than the dreaded Bill Callahan era. *edit* Okay, Bill Callahan's 07 team did have a losing record at 4-5 in November so as it stands, this current team is on track to be worse than that team.
  19. If we were to bring him here, he has talent to run his system. Tommy Armstrong would thrive in his offense IMO.
  20. Tom Herman runs a Power Spread offense. It is a smash mouth spread offense and is predicated on the run game first. Just look at how bad Ohio State is doing offensively now that Herman is gone.
  21. Some coaches that have made stops at Houston before moving onto bigger jobs: Art Briles (Baylor), Kevin Sumlin (Texas A&M), Dana Holgorsen (West Virginia)
  22. OK thanks. Well that's one name. And I'm pretty sure Houston is not playing power football or running the ball much. He's a guy that most would have to dig up info on. How about some more names HB. Some proven coaches that will be great candidates? Isn't that what Husker fans want? Someone most folks won't have to research and google? Houston Cougars Football Team Stats: Passing Yards 269.6 ranked 30th in NCAA Rushing Yards 291.66 ranked 6th in NCAA Points for 47.04 ranked 4th in NCAA Points Against 19.72 ranked 28th in NCAA
  23. I kind of agree, I don't really buy into the idea of purging assistants and keeping the head man. He's the Captain, it's his ship. If you want wholesale changes, why not just get rid of the hand man too? We have to. I don't think Eichorst will be fired by Perlman unless he is put under some serious pressure from the big wigs but Eichorst ultimately can fire Riley and save face. The question is if he will do that. Now, if he does, he has justification. The record speaks for itself. I think most fans would be forgiving of Shawn if he would man up and apologize for the poor results of the football team and that he will be looking for a coach who has a proven record of winning. That characteristic alone should be enough for us to fork out the dough. If Riley is going to be fired, it needs to be done right now so we can get a guy in here early to hit the road recruiting otherwise we risk damaging the class with a late run again. We need a splash hire or a coach who is made at a mid-major program that will immediately grab the attention of high school athletes.
