Defense had two takeaways today. They held Minnie to three first downs in second half. Frost let us down by his horrible play calling and game management. If I were Chinander, I would read the writing on the wall and would look for a HC opportunity even if it is on an FCS team and get out of dodge. Frost has proven he is not capable of getting his coaches and this team to stop beating themselves. Our defense, although slow to react at times, has kept us in all games and gave our offense many chances to seal the win. Erik Chinander is the only coach on this coaching staff to show true progress.

Austin Allen and Cam Taylor-Britt are our two most consistent players all season. Martinez does not possess the talent to win in crunch time. He has had more opportunities than any other QB in FBS to win a one score game and he has come short. That is his legacy and he is not going to change now. You either have it or you don’t and Martinez does not have it in him to win in crunch time. Since our chances of going to the toilet bowl are all but gone, put smothers in and get him some game experience before next year. Martinez will give us a Jekyll and Hyde performance with Hyde taking the wheel when it matters most.

Purdue is getting its signature win against Iowa. May be Frost’s signature win is against Purdue. I am just trying to lower our expectations since the Huskers performance over the past two decades have taught the fans to expect less and be happy with moral victories.

Frost will never be successful in the Big 10. It looks like all the big ten coaches have him figured out and can easily predict his play calling. He sealed his fate when he challenged the big ten coaches by saying that they will have to adjust to him. Well, four years in, the coaches have definitely adjusted and can consistently beat him even with inferior talent.

I learned this team does not want to go to a bowl game. They hate bowl games…last year by rejecting a bowl invitation was a sign that they hate bowl games. They just ensured that by losing to a weak Minnie squad.

After watching today’s game, what makes you believe we can win so many games. This team finds a way to lose games where we are favored and have the better talent on the field. Nothing is guaranteed when it comes to our chaotic offense with no identity.

(1) Frost is a horrible play caller and probably the least smart of all the coaches in the Big and arguably in FBS. His offense’s identity is CHAOS. (2) we should not kick another field goal ever as long as our kicker is Culp. (3) we are the only team in FBS that consistently loses to teams of much lesser talent (4) we will not be bowl eligible this season (5) this team is the Jekyll and Hyde team with Mr. Hyde making most of the appearances. (6) whatever momentum we gained over the past weeks in coming close to win against top 10 competition has been flushed down the toilet with this showing. This loss is even more disappointing than the Illinois loss because it happened after so much momentum has been gained. Frost’s legacy at Nebraska is marked with losing close games and losing to lesser talent, which is a reflection of his coaching.

This is a game WE MUST HAVE. Despite our close losses to top 10 teams, this team has managed to gain the respect of the public eye. If we lose to Minnie, it would feel like we are moving backward again. If we win, this will greatly help our team gain more confidence and hopefully get two wins in a row heading to the Ohio state showdown. We need some momentum heading to the Ohio state game. We have two winnable games and a bye week. This will be our best shot to get the monkey off our backs.

I do not understand why you are being so defensive and condescending. You started this by correcting what I wrote. If you do not like my opinion just move on. There is no need to force your opinion on others or correct their posts.

Thanks but you simply cannot deny that as good as Adrian Martinez has been, he still has one big flaw and that is his ability to seal the deal and win close games. If you were to look at his stats without knowing his W-L record, you would think his team is a top 10 contender. What separates a very good QB from a great one is their ability to perform at crunch time. Adrian Martinez is a very good QB but not a great one. He has had many opportunities to seal the win and he found ways to lose. In the Michigan game, the defense, the offense, and the special teams played well enough for us to win the game. It came down to QB play. In his career, AM has done wonderful things for Nebraska. Some of the plays he did remind me of Eric Crouch, yet the difference is that Eric crouch found ways to win close games and AM has not. He has been given so many opportunities yet he keeps coming up short. Unfortunately, when this is all said and done, his record is all that people will remember. And I do not mean the fans. I respect AM and I agree that he has been a crucial part of the team build up. He is an amazing young man and deserves a lot of credit but you cannot deny that his performance at crunch time has been disappointing. Just think of how many times he had the ball in his hands with a chance to go down the field and win the game and how many times he ended up actually winning the game. I admit that it is not always his fault and the OL did not help in some of those cases but great QBs find a way to win in spite of that. I leave you with one question: arguably, AM is a much better athlete and a more dynamic QB than Iowa’s Spencer Petras, however, of the two QBs who do you think has a better chance of getting drafted by an NFL team and why?

When you are given two chances at the last 3 minutes of the game to either win or tie the game, the team’s mentality should be focused on winning the game rather than being afraid of what comes next. Martinez played well enough to win but when it came down to winning, he made crucial mistakes. First mistake, he got the first down, take a knee or give yourself up and don’t give the opposition a chance to strip the ball close to your goal line. Second mistake, there were at least two open options that could have got the first down and got us to within field goal range but he decided to do the improbable. These are the mistakes he consistently does when the game is on the line. I do not know if it is mental, but until he and this team decide that they are going down the field to win the game, we will continue to have moral victories instead of REAL WINS. Look at Texas A&M, they went down the field and scored against Alabama and won. Arguably, we are as talented as Texas A&M, so what is the difference? Confidence, belief, or bad coaching? Again, this team has come a long way and they are at the proverbial turning point, so what is holding us from getting our signature win and changing the culture to a winning culture. After the Illinois game, I was depressed but now I believe this team can compete with any top 10 team and be in a position to win. The only question is “will we win?”

There is no doubt whatsoever that the team is progressing and is very close to getting that ever elusive signature win. I really believed that win would come today based on the games against Oklahoma and Michigan state but that did not happen. It seems like It takes Frost 40 minutes into the game before he realizes what plays work. Everyone knew that Michigan cannot handle a mobile QB yet we did not see Martinez be Martinez until late in the third quarter. Had Martinez run the option in first half, the game would be in our favor. Also, I believe that Frost does not have a good 2 min drill. We have had the ball in our hands in the final drive with a chance to win or tie a game and we came short every time. May be the team need to focus on perfecting their 2 min drill. Overall, it was an excellent showing in prime time. I truly believe we are much better than our record shows. The only disappointing loss was that against Illinois. I was also hoping that Frost’s signature win would come tonight but I guess we will wait for the Ohio state game (hopefully).

I see great progress. Frost’s demeanor changed after the Michigan state game. You can tell he is sick of losing and for the first time in a very long time, I really feel we are very close to turning that corner. The only problem is that the corner seems to be never ending. I am sure we are all sick to our stomachs with moral victories but no one can deny that this team is making great strides and making progress. Both Frost and his team need to learn how to win these games especially when you have the ball in your hands with a chance to go down the field and win.

Do moral victories count towards getting a bowl invite? Because we are number 1 in the nation in those types of victories.

We simply do not have a 2 min drill. I can’t remember the last time we had the ball in our hands for a final drive and came up with a win. Definitely not since Frost came to Lincoln. We had two chances to win or at least tie the game in our own home and we just found a way to lose this game…how many more gut wrenching loses do we have to endure before we turn that never ending corner
