  1. Keeping Riley will mean we absolutely WON'T get Frost. He is gone to a P5 team this year. Either us or Florida or UCLA.
  2. Pretty sure this is the least likely of all options. Frost is NOT staying at UCF. Some P5 team will get him. I'd put my money like so: Nebraska:60% Florida: 30% Other (Tennesee, UCLA,etc):9% Stay at UCF: 1%
  3. We need to get this to 100 pages before Frost arrives at Lincoln. I bet we can do it. I'm a bit encouraged of late that the Florida media is no longer pretending Frost is definitely going to UF. Makes me think he will come to Nebraska. About 70% positive now... but that's just my own opinion based on inadequate data and rumors. Part of me wants to see what he could do at Florida too, given all the crazy good recruits they get. Their classes will probably always be at least 10 ranks ahead of ours.
  4. It's a good idea. Makes people buy in viscerally that they are a part of the state and citizenship is not just a right but a duty. Would be expensive though and many who say they are for it would change their minds when it came time to put up or shut up. Maybe we should do like Heinlein suggested and tie such work to the right to vote. At least then the voter would respect that right. Of course that would require changes to the US Constitution which I can't see happening in my lifetime.
  5. This thread should probably be titled 'The Writing is On the Wall'... and to paraphrase CS Lewis 'in letters as deep as a spear is long'....
  6. To be a devil's advocate, because this is how my wife would call it if I wanted to move near my parents. "Sweetie, I want this Husker job" "Honey, I know you are emotionally attached to them, but remember when they never called 3 years ago? Remember how hurt you were? Those nice Florida people will pay AT LEAST as much as Nebraska, AND we get to enjoy weather that isn't colder than a well digger's behind! And I LOVE the beach. Plus think how much easier it will be to recruit here! I know you are disappointed but I will make it up to you, I promise!" And there goes that. I mean, one thing you all don't seem to factor in here is that this woman has lived in Scottsdale, Arizona, Eugene, Oregon, and now Orlando, Florida. I mean, I know there's global warming, but as someone who currently lives in Phoenix (but has lived in Portland, OR and Florida), the weather in Nebraska would be a significant negative for me as far as thinking about moving back there (and judging from the number of Nebraskans and other mid-westerners in Arizona, for a lot of folks).
  7. He should have kept his mouth shut then and never said anything about it. Frankly I don't care about trusting him past the hiring of a new coach. His primary job is that. If he fails at that then frankly I don't care if he is a 'man of his word'. Bizness is bizness and you gotta do what you gotta do. If you gotta fire Riley before seasons end to get Frost then do it. If not, then great. However I'd rather have Frost than help Moos keep his nebulous feel good 'man of his word' BS.
  8. Granted the last two coaches had very little patience shown them, but to be honest I think both of the decisions were the right ones (although certainly far earlier than most schools would have done so). Of course part of the reason I want Frost to go to Florida if he doesn't come to Nebraska is that I am also a Florida fan. My brother went there and I have been to several games at the Swamp - which is definitely worth doing if you ever get the chance.
  9. If we don't get Frost, Chip Kelly would definitely be a step up from Riley (a giant step up), but I have issues with a coach not maintaining some control of his subordinates. He got a show cause for a reason. Likely because he was willfully refusing to know what his coaches were doing to get recruits. Either that or he was pressuring them so hard they were willing to do anything.... in neither case does that make me want him as a head coach for Nebraska.
  10. UCF can't pay a fraction of what Florida can. Florida can go $5-6Mil easily. UCF will have a hard time finding $2Mil... If Frost does''t come to Nebraska I hope he goes to Florida. He will have a chance to live up to his potential there that he will never have at UCF.
  11. Florida has historically found it easier to get high ranked recruiting classes as well... a big chunk of this is how close it is to all the Florida recruits, but part of it is the atmosphere of the Swamp, the relatively nice weather, etc. If Frost goes to Florida expect him to get recruiting classes in the top 10 within a couple of years just like Urban Meyer was doing routinely.
  12. Eisenhower was right. The Military Industrial Complex exists and part of its strategy to make money is to keep Americans keyed up for war so that they can make boatloads of money. I agree that it borders on jingoistic, and it makes me a bit uncomfortable. However, it is over quickly and one can take it as an actual thank you to our veterans as well as what it likely is, which is a way to keep pushing people to vote for a bigger military budget, so I try to take it as the veterans thank you. But we need to be cognizant of the fact that a strong part of this is to keep up support for our very large military budget.
  13. Well, Leach had a 66% win percentage at Texas Tech (who was godawful for years before he got there). He also had them playing for and in the hunt for conference championships every year or almost every year. No one can say the same about Riley. Maybe claiming Leach is 'elite' is a bit over top, although his win % at TT would be enough to put him in the top 30 coaches in the country today (his rather pedestrian 37–36 at WSU to date is dragging him down now, but over the last 3 years he is 69% @WSU, which is head and tails above Riley @UN the last 3 years. Bottomline is Leach has a history of sustained good performance and Riley does not. Riley has seasons that were excursions where they won more games than usual but they always reverted to mean slightly above .500.
  14. This isn't one of those times. Leach at least had a history of performing at elite levels... and not a Gray Cup 20 years ago. Also WSU's fans limits are not Nebraska's fans limits. WSU has never been an elite team (at least as long as I've been alive)... not the same here.
  15. I don't think Fuentes is leaving VT.... not for Nebraska anyway.
  16. You think Florida is going to wait for an official interview at this point? I mean, hiring a football coach is not like hiring someone off the street. You already have a fairly good idea how well the guy can coach and speak and such from the hundreds of hours of video of him and his teams. I would not put it past anyone to come to some unofficial deal well before the end of the season. That may be against some NCAA rule or something but if not, I almost guarantee it occurs. Waiting for 'official interviews' may be too late.
  17. These are the positives in firing Riley now to me: 1. Let's everyone know he won't be here next year and we are officially looking for a new coach 2. Doesn't let Florida steal Frost before we even get out the gate 3. Appeases many fans calling for his head The negatives are: 1. Makes us look bad. Riley isn't a good coach but he is respected and liked and it will look like we are kicking him when he is down 2. Team probably fully gives up and we go 4-8 for sure. Look at Florida getting stomped by Mizzou - they didn't even try 3. One of the incompetent assistants Riley has gets named interim head coach I'm not even going to talk about the money because in my opinion, people who think we will get out of paying Riley every dime his contract states are living in fantasyland. Bizness is bizness and Nebraska and Riley are big boys who signed binding contracts. If I'm Riley I sure don't let you run me out of town and then let you off the hook of paying me. I'm ok either way and I don't think anyone will judge us TOO harshly for firing him now. I only hope that keeping him doesn't prevent us from getting Frost. If it does than that is completely unacceptable. If there is even a 10% chance of that we need to fire Riley today.
  18. Yeah maybe, but I think until our October losses we were favored over Minnesota on FPI at least.
  19. If you love something, let it go free. If it doesn't come back, it wasn't yours to begin with. Let's face it, Scott Frost doesn't seem to be an unquestioning 'Nebraska first, last and always' kind of guy. But I frankly appreciate him more because of that. It means if he DOES come back that he is doing it for the right reasons.
  20. May be the residual alcohol in my system but this just made me laugh out loud... well the Voldemort and homeless guy part...
  21. Not sure if this was also true before the NW game, but just realized with FPI that we aren't even favored to beat Minnesota anymore.
  22. They seem to be trying a lot more outside runs... maybe Langs has been reading this board...
  23. As an old sailor I know used to say... as long as the sun is over the yardarm... of course that usually happens by 8 or 9am...
